Hear yea, hear yea, all you McCainiacs, you Romneybots, you disaffected FredHeads!

There is a cure for your troubles. There is a cure for the negativity that has befouled our once fair blog.

That cure is Presidential Paintball!

Yes, now when you feel that you cannot take anymore of John McCain, that Mitt Romney will destroy the GOP, that Thompson's withdrawal means the death of conservatism, you can vent your frusttrations on the field of honor, and return to RedState refreshed and in a proper state of mind.

Posted at 10:04pm on Jan. 2, 2008 An Open Apology To The RedState Community

By Icythus

Two months ago, I authored this diary explaining my reasons for not being able to vote for Rudy Giuliani in either the primary or the general election. Chief among these reasons was a stated inability to cast a vote for any candidate who supported legal abortion, no exceptions.

I was wrong.

Posted at 12:38pm on Nov. 29, 2007 Mitt Romney: The Ashlee Simpson Candidate

By Icythus

Full Disclosure: If the primary were held today, I would most likely be voting for Romney (though if my State GOP follows through with its plan to require loyalty oaths, I might not vote at all).

Mitt Romney is articulate, good-looking, successful, and by all appearances conservative across the board. However, last night's debate revealed what I think is Romney's critical weakness: his seeming inability to cope if asked a question that required him to depart from his stump-speech script.

Posted at 4:45pm on Nov. 4, 2007 What Do You Mean, I HAVE To Vote For Rudy?

By Icythus

So yesterday I was out campaigning for a local State Senate candidate (here in Virginia, we have our state elections in off years). Over lunch I got to discussing politics with a fellow volunteer.

She asked me who I was supporting for 2008. I told her I hadn't made up my mind yet, but was leaning toward either Romney or Thompson. I then off-handedly said that I would not vote for Guiliani.

Her reply was, "Well, in the general, you'd have to [if he wins the nomination]."

What?

Posted at 7:45pm on May 16, 2007 An Open Question To The Romney Critics

By Icythus

I have a question for all the critics of Mitt Romney who have alleged that he is unacceptable as a GOP Presidential candidate because of his recent flip on abortion, which may or may not have been sincere:

Were the situation reversed, were Romney a Democrat who flipped from pro-life to pro-choice, like Ted Kennedy (another Massachusetts politician with presidential aspirations), Dick Durbin, Harry Reid, and Jesse Jackson, would anyone be asking "Once elected, will this guy stay true to his newfound principles?"

Posted at 10:04am on Jan. 15, 2007 Pawlenty Signs With McCain

By Icythus

About 20 minutes ago on Bill Bennett's morning radio talk show Morning In America, Gov. Tim Pawlenty announced that he had taken on the position of National Co-Chair of John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign. He was not able to say who the other co-chair is.

I was only able to catch the tail end of the segment, but Pawlenty is endorsing McCain both as the conservative candidate, and as the electable candidate. He stressed McCain's staunchly pro-life stance on abortion, and the fact he he led the campaign in Arizona to outlaw same-sex marriage.

Sen. George Allen, R-VA, unleashed a press release late Thursday that exposed his rival's fiction writing, which includes graphic underage sex scenes.

Former Democratic Virginia Governor Mark Warner announced today that he will not seek the presidency in 2008. H/T The Corner.

I have decided not to run for President.

This past weekend, my family and I went to Connecticut to celebrate my Dad’s 81st birthday, and then we took my oldest daughter Madison to start looking at colleges.

By Icythus

Breaking News: I just learned that Student Council was unable to to aquire enough signatures to get the Diversity Initiatives "De-Westernization" program on the Fall ballot.

They may try again in the spring, or they may not, but whatever they do, we conservatives here will be ready.

Shinzo Abe was elected today as Japan's Prime Minister, replacing outgoing conservative PM Junichiro Koizumi.

Nationalist Shinzo Abe, a proponent of a robust alliance with the United States and a more assertive military, easily won election in parliament to become Japan's youngest postwar prime minister Tuesday, pledging to plow ahead with economic reform, rein in spending and pursue better relations with China.

Posted at 8:08am on Sep. 21, 2006 UVA StudCo Plots "De-Westernization" of Curriculum

By Icythus

This was published yesterday on my blog, in response to a plan by Student Council to set up an ad hoc commission to overview each department and issue recommendations on how best to "de-Westernize" it, as well as institute new academic requirements and several new major programs. Be sure to read the part where the Diversity Initatives Chair mentions conservatives, it's pretty chilling for us here.

By Icythus

This article concerns two comic strips published August 23, 2006 and August 24, 2006 in The Cavalier Daily, the daily, student-run newspaper of the University of Virginia.

For the past two days in the Cavalier Daily, UVA's student-run newspaper, the new comic strip "Quirksmith" by Grant Woolard has presented a couple of fairly obscene, tasteless, anti-Christian messages.

Posted at 2:30pm on Aug. 20, 2006 Reuters Hit Piece Blames "Murder Wave" on GWOT

By Icythus

From the diaries...

This ridiculously transparent "news" article from Reuters seeks to link the prosecution of the Global War on Terror by the Bush Administration with "a wave of murders and shootings".

The slaying of the 20-year-old mother -- on a narrow street behind a police station in Boston's poor Roxbury district last month -- is one of the shocking examples of a rise in the murder rate across the United States that is raising questions about whether police are fighting terrorism at the expense of crime.

In a shift from trends of the past decade, violent crime is on the rise, fueling criticism of Bush administration policies as a wave of murders and shootings hits smaller cities and states with little experience with serious urban violence.
