After reading another thread bashing Mccain, or "Mcamnesty" if you prefer, I just had to respond. I am really tired of attacks by people who either reside in Fantasyland or clearly don't live in a border state and realize the utter futility of trying to deport all of the illegals in this country.
As I have mentioned in previous posts I live in Texas and have done so for my entire 34, nearly 35 years on this earth. On any given day I can get in my car and drive less than 5 miles in any direction and encounter illegal aliens. Hell, on the days when my apartment complex has the grounds crew here to mow, I don't even have to leave my parking lot to encounter illegals. They are everywhere.

After reading some of the posts here last night I did a lot of thinking about our party and what being a Republican is supposed to mean. The Republican party has undergone numerous changes of philosophy during its' history, but at its' core it has always been the party for those who love America and are not afraid to fight for it. That is the first, and, in my humble opinion, most important trait that one of our party's candidates must possess.

I feel I owe this post as a manner of explaining my recent digs at Fred's candidacy. As I have stated previously I will vote for Fred if he is the nominee but he is not my first choice, or second for that matter. He comes in third, just before McCain. For the record, my top two are Rudy and Mitt. This blog is not about my prefrences though. It is about the issue that matters most and why Fred's stance, which I have no argument with, is not enough to propel him to number one.

Posted at 9:44pm on Jan. 1, 2008 Yet another reason for gloom...
By james p
Inspired by the gloom and invective of Thomas' parting shots and Mikeleader's "Hello, I must be going" post, I think I will jump on the bandwagon of despair and ride over the cliff with as many hangerson as it can handle. To add a higher degree of difficulty to this endeavor I will attempt to avoid this year's political popularity contest in the process of adding to your daily gloom. Kids don't try this at home.

About a month ago I threatened to throw my hat into the ring for the GOP nomination should I not obtain employment by the end of August. Many of you will be thrilled to learn that I did obtain employment and began work on August 28th. So close, yet so far.
I would like to take this moment to thank my many supporters (read zero) for their steadfast support during my 3 or 4 week listening tour/frantic job search. I would have made this announcement last week but I did not want to steal Fred's thunder. I also had some trouble with my efforts to get on The Tonight Show to announce my withdrawl. It seems that Jay has still not forgiven me for that tragic green room incident a few years back. I contemplated airing my own commerical during the GOP debate, but my extensive fundraising efforts netted me 45 cents that I had found in my car's cupholder.

By james p
I have made a rather fateful decision that I will share with all of you here at Redstate. Should I not be offered a job by the end of August (I have had 4 interviews in the past 2 weeks.) I will toss my hat in the ring as a Republican candidate for president. Yes it is true that I am only 34 years old and have absolutely no executive experience, but does that really matter? I will be 35 before the Republican convention next year.

By james p
I am sure all of you have heard that old expression about how, "we must measure what we might gain by what we might lose"? I am trying to think of ANY comments I have seen or heard from those who are calling for a withdrawl from Iraq that have addressed this concept in any detail. Other than the fact that we would experience fewer casualties in the short term I am not sure what else we would gain by withdrawing or diminishing our presence in Iraq? I have a good idea what we might lose though.

If you are at all like me you have made fun, or laughed as others joked about DHS or our color coded terror alert system. Many have made jokes about government warnings to be on alert and what exactly that meant. I am not laughing anymore.
Monday morning I went to my local Walmart to buy some groceries. As is customary for me, I went over to the electronics section first to look at DVD's and CD's. When I reached the department I noticed a man with a middle eastern apperance looking at Go phones (pre-paid cellular for those who didn't know). I didn't think too much about it at first and he walked away within a minute or two of my arrival in the section. Not ten minutes later two middle eastern gentlemen (one of which may have been the first man) came in to the electronics section talking. I wasn't close enough to hear if they were speaking English or Arabic but it was obvious that they knew each other. One of the two men grabbed two phones from the display without even breaking stride, turned the corner and, I assume, headed back toward the front of the store. He didn't even look to make sure the packaging was okay and not damaged. I am pretty sure that the two men split up at the phones, but I am not positive.

By james p
Having been downsized once and outsourced once, I sometimes have issues with our free enterprise system. While I do not think government possesses the abilty or intelligence to run most companies, I don't think many executives possess those traits either. Add to the gross ineptitude of many corporate managers a healthy does of greed, shortsightedness and little or no conscience and you pretty much have the dictionary definition of "Corporate America" today. This outlook raises interesting questions for someone who truly wishes to support free markets.

Posted at 9:43pm on Jun. 28, 2007 Winning by doing nothing...
By james p
Well it looks like conservatives are thrilled by the senate's decision to do nothing about our illegal immigration problem and open borders. While I am glad a blanket amnesty was not given, the problem remains. I believe there is a solution to our immigration problem and I will offer it here for you all to tear apart.
First, it is impractical to think that we could hope to round up and deport all of the illegal aliens that are currently in our country. Instead, I would require all of them to register, submit to a criminal background check and pay a $1000 fine before receiving a guest worker permit. Arrangements can be made to pay the fine on monthly installments of not less than $25. The permit is valid for five years and they then will have to pay a modest fee to renew it, or they will have to leave the country.
