The real solution is beginning to emerge. Recently, Saudi Arabia has rattled its baby-sized saber by announcing that it would come to the aid of its Sunni brethren in Iraq (as if it wasn’t already supporting the jihadi all along.) The prospect of a Shia Iraq is frightening to the Saudi clan even if that Shia has no links to Iran, according to an article in the New York Sun:

Ralph Peters backs civil war in Iraq – on the Shia side. Seeing civil war as unavoidable (and trying to stop it as a waste of our troops), Peters backs the Shia Arabs against the ex-Baathist jihadi-supporting Sunnis and their Saudi backers -- who are Bush/Baker family friends as he is fond of noting in the past. He believes Arab Shias can be separated from their Persian counterparts.
