By jaybird
Hillary made the rounds of the Sunday gabfests today, and given the opportunity to make a strong repudiation of the now infamous "General Betray Us" ad, she decided to parrot Democrat talking points (perhaps they emanate from her office), and talk instead about impugning the honor, integrity, etc of "anyone who served," trying to compare the moveon.org slander of a currently serving 4-star General to political attacks, during political campaigns, on Senator John F. Kerry and Max Cleland. I might add in the case of Cleland, the ad in question did not impugn his military service, but sought to demonstrate that by following the voting pattern (ordes?) of Tom Daschle, as Cleland had done here in my home state, he had separated himself from Georgians and had made the United States less safe. In the case of Kerry, you either believe the Swift Boaters or not.

Posted at 7:03pm on Jun. 28, 2007 The flap over Ann
By jaybird
Well, it's been a while since I have felt compelled to post, but, the latest Ann Coulter brouh-ha-ha has me laughing.
I know many on Redstate feel that Ann has worn out her welcom and that she is persona-non-grata for Conservatives. However, I am NOT one of those namby-pamby, panty-wearing Conservatives. I think we need people who are willing to call the Liberals out on their hypocrisy and stupidity, and their willingness to drive this country to destruction. And, if it takes a provocateur like Ann to open a few eyes, so be it.

Posted at 1:34am on Nov. 13, 2006 Election Thoughts
By jaybird
Nearly a week has passed, and what are my thoughts, given a few days for it all to sink in?
1. Iraq - clearly the War is a national issue, and will remain so for some time to come. While the Cold War was a winning issue for Republicans, and, I believe the GWOT is, the D's succeeded in making the action in Iraq the central issue, and separated it from the larger GWOT - just as they did with Vietnam in the '70s. It is our failure, and the failure of the President, that he has not been able to break through the constant din of D electioneering and the MSM and convince the American people that Iraq is part and parcel of the GWOT. I think many people believe that it isn't and that we have served our purpose there (indeed, may have served it long ago). We should have that debate, and now is as good a time as any. The specifics of that debate are a matter for another topic.

Posted at 9:05pm on Oct. 26, 2006 Stem Cells: Rush Vs. Michael J Fox
By jaybird
Today, the rage on the talk media seems to be over the Rush Limbaugh vs. Michael J. Fox dust-up.
Like global warming, the Left has taken up embryonic stem cell research as an issue that wins them political points (or, so they think).
I am sure, when rational scientists started research using adult and embryonic stem cells, they considered the research perhaps a long shot, with some big rewards, should the research prove fruitful. Like the rest of us, these scientists had to weigh their own personal considerations before taking to their research labs. For some scientists, they likely found this morally untenable, and eschewed embryonic research for other lines of research. For others, they had no such moral qualms, and they proceeded apace. In the early days, there was no public funding, and our government wasn't being asked to fund this, so we had no public policy debate to make over this.

By jaybird
Why do we bother with the Blue States?
In my world, we'd just give up the blue states, form our own country. Take the Constitution, say circa 1910, and start from that point.
We'll ditch the income tax ideas completely, charge the blue staters to use our airspace and, in exchange for the use of their ports for our military, we'll offer to protect them from attacks on their soil.
We'll run a country with true states rights, build a wall between Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Mexico and run our own country.
Who's with me?

Posted at 12:12am on Feb. 10, 2006 The Religion of Peace?
By jaybird
Ann Coulter hits the nail on the head today with her column on the "Religion of Peace" (aka Islam). I probably can't say it as good as Ann, but, let's face it, Islam as practiced today is not the gentle, peaceful religion our friends in the media, the State Department, or the Democratic party want us to think it is...
