Posted at 3:15pm on Feb. 22, 2008 News Flash: Running for Congress Takes More Than Minimal Effort
By jbonham76
"Wait, running for Congress takes time and money!?! NOW YOU TELL ME??"
That's a quick synopsis of why Republican Nominee Tim Baldermann, who is/was running to fill the vacated seat in Illinois's 11th Congressional District- which was bound to be one of the most hottest congressional races this year, has decided to drop out.
Baldermann, 41, said that until the primary was finished, he was unaware of how time consuming his campaign would be.

Posted at 12:06pm on Feb. 22, 2008 NYTimes Editor Keller: Only I Can Have Affairs
By jbonham76
After reading the letter, Keller called Gilbey, a British journalist living in New York, and asked her to coffee at the Times cafeteria. Gilbey, at the time, had a reputation as something of a power-dater; her exes included Senator John Kerry and Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour. An affair ensued, which shocked Keller’s friends. “I felt bad for everyone involved,” says Stephen Engelberg, a former Times reporter. “This was not characteristic behavior at all. I wouldn’t pretend to be Bill’s psychologist, but he didn’t get a red sports car, so …” Link

Posted at 3:58pm on Feb. 7, 2008 It's Over, Time To Get Behind McCain
By jbonham76
OK Folks, McCain is the nominee. It's time we get behind him.
These aren't just hallow words either:
and this...
Life goes on folks, and like Mitt said, we can't afford a catastrophic pull out of Iraq. But don't worry, this isn't carte blanche. I personally feel that McCain needs to be held to certain standards. If he strays to far, forgets conservatives after getting our support, then frankly I will be happy to call him on it. Until then, I will operate on good faith that McCain is going to unify us.

Posted at 11:59am on Feb. 4, 2008 McCain's Head Games
By jbonham76
McCain's spending the day in Boston was originally supposed to look like a symbolic blow to Romney. While Romney was flailing around the country trying to pick up delegates, John and his Straight talk entourage would hang out in Boston and gnaw away at Romney's home town. I am sure there was a lot of high fiving and laughter when the McCain camp made this decision, but one thing is for sure, although McCain seems to want to give the proverbial finger to Romney, the voters in California and Georgia seem to be flipping it back.

Posted at 1:35pm on Jan. 31, 2008 5 Reasons McCain will be Slaughtered in the Generals
By jbonham76
I know what the head to head polls say, and unless you think polls don't change over 11 months (cuckoo...cuckoo) we as a party have some serious introspection as to what McCain's weaknesses are. So allow me to post what will most likely be the final nails in the coffin for McCain, somewhere around October 31st of 2008.

Grassroots Campaign Against McCain.
While a lot of people seem to be resigning themselves to McCain, let's not be so fast. This is probably going to be one of the most exciting weeks of the race. Yes, McCain won big, but a McCainiac is largely mistaken to think it's wrapped up. McCain will have it wrapped up if we wins such a large amount of votes on Super Tuesday that he only needs a few more states to win. Should Romney and him come out with only 100-200 delegate count difference, than I really doubt it's over. And hey this isn't a pipe dream, Newt said as much yesterday on Fox.

Posted at 11:54pm on Jan. 24, 2008 New York Times: We Endorse McCain
By jbonham76
From the NYTimes:
Senator John McCain of Arizona is the only Republican who promises to end the George Bush style of governing from and on behalf of a small, angry fringe. With a record of working across the aisle to develop sound bipartisan legislation, he would offer a choice to a broader range of Americans than the rest of the Republican field.

Posted at 1:04pm on Jan. 24, 2008 McCain's New Commercial: ?????
By jbonham76
McCain put out this commercial today:
It seems from this we are supposed to gather that the Dem's are shaking in their boots at the prospects of facing McCain in the generals. Last night on Hannity and Colmes I was amazed at how the Democratic Strategist so quickly and readily offered up that McCain would be a near insurmountable candidate to beat. Not that she said it, but that it's like the 10th time I have heard it given up so easily by a Dem strategist on Fox News as of late.

Posted at 2:48pm on Jan. 23, 2008 Illinois 66th District House Race: Laura Bartell
By jbonham76
Full disclosure, I am in charge of the online efforts for Laura Bartell’s campaign for State Legislature in the 66th district. I work unpaid.
I was just reading this post on Christine Prochno’s campaign against her competitor Laura Bartell in the 66th Illinois District Republican Primary for State Legislature. While I do believe that Christine Prochno is good person, I think that a valid argument can be made for her opponent Laura Bartell, who in my opinion is the better candidate.

Posted at 4:23pm on Jan. 21, 2008 Scarborough: Liberal Media Loves McCain, MSM Agrees
By jbonham76
What's really funny is the lady's logic. Of course she thinks it's not unfair, or else she wouldn't do it. The point isn't whether the MSM's bias to John McCain isn't done in good faith (which I actually think it is) or bad faith, they're not being nefarious about this, but the point is whether the media should be in a position to allow them selves to be swayed in either direction by a campaign's spin. McCain has done a great job in extending a hand out to the media, and they like any human being appreciate that- and it was smart of him to do so. But we also should realize that the media is human, and is just as unable to think rationally as anyone else. When a candidate gives them extra access, they are naturally going to give him better coverage over the ones that don't. It makes sense, and I understand it, but the non-punditry media should aim for higher standards, not rationalize poor ones.

By jbonham76
In the latest volley between Romney and McCain, Romney has taken issue with McCain's handling of CAFE standards, or rather his love of them. Now, McCain always loving to push the flip flop label on Mit,t released this damning (at least in there eyes) video of Mitt in 2005 in response:

Posted at 12:55pm on Jan. 9, 2008 Why Romney Speaks to Michigan Voters
By jbonham76
In New Hampshire Romney lost the indies to McCain by 11 points. Frankly I expected it to be worst, and so did Jim geraghty here.
The easy assessment is that McCain will somehow carry the day with independents in Michigan because he carried them in New Hampshire. That's a theory straight out of Simpleton, NH.

By jbonham76
There comes a time where we need to accurately assess where things are, and tonight is the night where I do that.
I have tried my best to not post anything I don’t honestly believe. I will tell you right now, upfront, that Romney is the best candidate we have to occupy the White House. I truly think he would be able to solve so many of our nations problems, and frankly restore a lot of confidence in our nation.

Posted at 12:02pm on Jan. 7, 2008 Reasons For a Rombot to be Optomistic in NH
By jbonham76
- Polls show the race tightening. It looks as if McCain's RCP lead has come down about 2% in the last couple days.
- Romney does lead in some polls.
- The polls where Mitt leads still sample indies around 30%
- Romney over performed in Iowa according to pre caucus polling. Going into the caucus Romney was about 7-8 points behind Huckabee, in polls that sampled 40% Evangelicals. Romney lost by 9 with 60% evangelicals. If the same polls had been sampled with 60% evangelicals, Romney would have gone in behind 15% or so.
- Talk radio people are beating McCain to death in New Hampshire
- The word is internal polling in the Romney campaign shows a race to close to call
- All day primary voting will allow a more effective use ground game than a 30 minute caucus.
- The last two debates- Romney just kicked some major can. They revolved around him!
- Romney losses, he is still delegate leader, has a big check book, and frankly is coming out swinging
- Romney wins, he is undisputed winner. Will likely take MI, NV, place well in SC, and probably win FL.
- If Romney wins, it wil be a major comeback story
