Some Special McCain YouTubes

This one is actually a Romney Web Ad:

And this is the best one of all. I would pay special attention to Ron Paul's comment at the very end:

This one's up for the Oscar of Mccain films:

but not by much. The gay marriage thing just shows he's uncomfortable expressing his beliefs (no, I'm not saying that's good, but it doesn't amount to double speak), and the flag thing he apologized for flipping on.

"Hey, I call 'em like I see 'em. I'm a whale biologist."

"The gay marriage thing just shows he's uncomfortable expressing his beliefs (no, I'm not saying that's good, but it doesn't amount to double speak) "

You are right, it isn't double speak. It's outright weaseling. (See below)

Now, why in the world would anybody be uncomfortable expressing his beliefs? Not that there aren't reasons, just think about what they are. For a politician, they amount to,

"Oh, gee, if I say what I believe, I'll lose votes. But if I say the opposite, I'll lose different votes. And do I really believe anything on this issue, anyway? I don't care about it. Why did he ask that? My stomach hurts. How do I get out of this? Is there a difference between 'gay marriage' and 'civil unions'? Before, I meant that the marriage ceremonies should be allowed. Then I meant that the ceremonies shouldn't mean anything--they're just ceremonious, after all. But I can't say that. Now my stomach really hurts."

I tend to believe he may "talk straight" but he doesn't think straight. He doesn't actually understand the issues, and he's too lazy to do the hard work and reflection necessary to understand them. He doesn't listen to contrary advice.

I offer the following: His position on waterboarding is illogical.

His position on Guantanamo is illogical.

His position on illegal immigration is illogical (and disingenuous and misleading).

His argument for his vote against the Bush tax cuts is illogical.

His arguments for McCain-Feingold are illogical.

His reaction when thwarted by the electorate is to strike out, not try to understand their viewpoint. He will build the "G-D fence," but he won't admit it's the right thing to do.

He has so much invested in his reputation as one who "holds his ground," "talks straight," "does what is right," that he is intransigent in the face of reality.

I'm afraid that this amounts to a man who flies by the seat of his pants, doesn't think clearly, and ignores advice contrary to his own dearly held beliefs. Say what you might against the conservatively-flawed George W. Bush, you can't rightfully accuse him of those shortcomings.

Having a future President who is a muddled thinker is one thing, having a muddled thinker who won't listen to clear heads is far worse.

The "Third Worst Person in the World" and aiming higher.

Those are the issues I love to see him nailed on.

"Hey, I call 'em like I see 'em. I'm a whale biologist."

"If I say that then what will my lefty friend in the Senate think of me? Will I keep getting invited to parties and called a maverick?"

"Hey, I call 'em like I see 'em. I'm a whale biologist."

exactly what substance do either of these videos bring to the debate? The first one is a montage of soundbytes from pundits. I could do that for anybody. The second clip doesn't even play the bulk of McCain's statements. I don't like McCain's economics, but RP's question was poorly phrased, and frankly it was just dumb. McCain didn't have much to work with up there given the question.

"Hey, I call 'em like I see 'em. I'm a whale biologist."

understanding for question. And I am only running for precinct committeeman.

I just said poorly phrased. It sounded like a 5th grader asking a question on whales or the environment or something.

My question is for uh Senator McCain. Um this is an whale question that I want to ask. It has to do with the killer whales. I'd like to know what you opinion is of them, and whether you would keep them from being extinct, what their role would be in the circle of life. If you - Or you would get rid of these whales. And if uh you kept these whales would you make sure they could see some sunlight and know what they were doing and how they were involved in our oceans?

"Hey, I call 'em like I see 'em. I'm a whale biologist."

McCain didn't have much to work with. He could have just answered the question, which he didn't.

than this. Frankly I think McCain's answer would have rocked if he just said "Ron, I don't buy into your paranoid delusions." There are far better ways to rip McCain than referencing a RP question.

"Hey, I call 'em like I see 'em. I'm a whale biologist."

**"The issue of economics is not something I've understood as well as I should." - John McCain"**

The original poster invited the contrary video. Deal.

I especially like the red blinking eye at the end.

It's funny that this was posted. During McCain's rambling answer last night I said to my wife that I thought he sounded a lot like Miss SC - I guess I'm not the only one.

**"The issue of economics is not something I've understood as well as I should." - John McCain"**

McCain claimed this about being well versed in economic:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bogh_sp5SE0

But actually Tim Russert was completely accurate here, this has been part of McCain's "straight talk", see for example his interview in WSJ in 2005:
http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110007600
"I'm going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues. I still need to be educated."

Also the quote given in the debate appears to be accurate as well:

http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2007/12/mccain_he_wan...
"The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should."

As Gomer Pyle would have said, "Well, surprise, surprise!"

The "Third Worst Person in the World" and aiming higher.

You're right. It was "surprise" three times, but "Shazam" only once or twice. I never was a big fan. But Jim Nabors' duet with Rock Hudson is a highlight in the inky shadows of my memory.
