Foer, TNR accuse military of "selectively leaking" info they tried to suppress?

Said TNR's Franklin Foer, "It's maddening to see the Army selectively leak to the Drudge Report things that we've been trying to obtain from them through Freedom of Information Act requests," Mr. Foer said. "This fits a pattern in this case where the army has leaked a lot of stuff to right wing blogs."

Ace is all over this one, saying:
The Army is selectively leaking? Foer had a phone call with his own "source" who refused to re-affirm the story and refused to report that to the public.
That seems pretty selective, doesn't it?
From the phone call we know that Beauchamp himself had to authorize the release of his records to TNR -- and that TNR knew that (Foer was present when the lawyer said the Army would want such an authorization).
If Beauchamp has thusfar refused to sign such an authorization, how the [****] is that due to the Army's failure to cooperate?
And Foer has always had access to his own...conversation with Beauchamp -- what, precisely, prevented him from reporting that? The Army again, I suppose? He needed the Army to provide a transcript of a call he himself was almost certainly recording?
He concludes:
PS, Foer: Maybe if you didn't outright lie and claim the Army was blocking you from speaking to Beauchamp, someone in the Army wouldn't have felt it necessary to release a call in which you yourself (or your colleague) accuses Beauchamp of "dodging" your calls.
You think you're allowed to lie about the Army and they have to just take it?
Please.
You lied that it was the Army blocking you from getting at the truth. In fact, it was your own wannabe-Hemmingway Beauchamp doing so.
And now you're pissed the Army may (or may not) have leaked a transcript proving you knew Beauchamp was "dodging" you all along?
Maybe you shouldn't have lied. People get pissed off when they're lied about. Sometimes they do horrible things, like leaking a telephone call with the media that you already knew about but chose to conceal to save your own [***].
Well put. No matter how much TNR's masthead keeps trying to spread the blame, there's enough to weigh their own selves down better than a pair of cement galoshes.
If FOIA requests themselves are subject to FOIA? It might be interesting to put one in to see what, exactly, TNR has requested and when.
Franklin Foer is doing his damnedest to mimic Dan Rather: insanely still standing by a story that has been thoroughly debunked......and this time with his own phone conversation no less.
Is the Left really this insane?
Foer also is doing a great rendition of Bogart's character, Captain Queeg. Nutty as all hell and proving it with every word.

I downloaded the transcript files linked to by Malkin's site, and read all of them.
Beauchamp shouldn't have written the stories (fiction, actually) in the first place, his wife shouldn't have encouraged their publication, her employers shouldn't have been using her as a pressure point to get Beauchamp to validate them, and they shouldn't have been encouraging him to do spin for them in violation of his superior obligations to the Army.
He was probably carried away in a moment of youthful, hubristic vainglory. And their excuse is....?
on IFC at 10:40am eastern. It's a great story, maybe Foer should check it out - I smell a sequel!
