Every four years, the United States has the privilege and the responsibility to choose a leader; a chief executive, commander in chief... our president. Sometimes, it's not pretty... it can be down right ugly, but it is part of who we are as a nation.
Since 1972, we've depended on the good citizens of Iowa to do the heavy lifting of vetting the initial slate of contenders.
I've read in several news articles and blogs that question why Iowa’s gets this job. It's understandable. Everyone wants to think their state should have a say in such an important decision. This sounds good, until you begin to look at the actual vetting process.

Unlike slanted articles about GOP candidates appearing in most MSM outlets, this one seems to be a straightfortward presentation.

What an incredible run. The excitement of the campaign continues to build and we're on the brink of nominating a candidate who has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to conservative principles and I for one couldn't be happier.
What's that you say?
"Jeff... haven't you seen the polls? Fred has tanked! Sure, he may have gotten a lift from his "no hands" answer in the debate, but he has too far to go. There's just no way he can get back to a respectable level."
Further, "Sure, Fred is a great guy and I really like his statements on Social Security, increased military support, border security, tax reform and more..."

There's been talk that the Iowa GOP is considering an additional debate to make up for the horrible Des Moines Register thing held earlier this week.
This Fred Thompson supporter couldn't agree more! I encourage supporters of all candidates to bang the drum in support for another "final" debate.
And just to make sure that the questions of true conservatives are asked, we should draft Rush Limbaugh to be the host and moderator.

Hillary Clinton invented a term (or at least brought into pop culture) during the period in which she was defending her innocent husband from libelous charges of lowly intern, Monica Lewinski. That term, "The Politics of Personal Destruction". She still whips it out from time to time, even though her husband was found to be... well, not innocent.
This seems to be a common meme from the Arkansas crowd on both sides of the aisle.

The way [Peter] Brown sees it, when former Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker and other super insider Republicans gave Thompson a call to suggest that he should run for the GOP nomination, a draft was created. No. That's almost the exact opposite of a draft movement. When a bunch of party insiders get together and try to dictate their party's nominee, it's no draft, it's a throwback to the era of smoke-filled back rooms where the party leadership once selected their nominee ahead of the convention.

I'm sitting in the hotel restaurant/bar at the Quality Inns and Suites in Ames, Iowa. I came here to unofficially represent the candidacy of Fred Thompson for president.
This is where it's at, baby. This morning, I saw Duncan Hunter's official bus and a Ron Paul bus, but I don't think it was "official".
I've scoped out the campus of Iowa State University, mapped the internet hot spots (there are many) and uploaded some pix here, on draftfred.
I've been struck by so many things. I drove here from Memphis yesterday, spent the night in Des Moines (in my van, another story) and drove the rest of the way in this morning.

The daily parade of political pundits is always great entertainment, but it gets even more fun in the run-up to presidential elections. With the "beltway variety" leading the band, they all march to essentially the same tune. A columnist in the WaPo or the NYT makes a comment that resonates, the others pick it up and harmonize and pretty soon you have an honest to goodness Sousa March.
This cycle, I've been paying a bit more attention since I have an early rooting (though not official) interest in a certain candidate. The most recent strain, "superior Democrat fundraising", coupled with "'undecided' leads the GOP" have added up to "GOP is demoralized and has given up". In one form or another, this has been echoed and of course leads to the inevitable Democrat victory in 2008.

I'm no blogger but I feel compelled to respond regarding the kerfuffle stirred up when Jimmy Carter pronounced George Bush "The worst president of all" with regard to foreign affairs.
Is this what we've come to?
I really don't want to rant on Carter, but isn't the book still open (at least a little) on Bush 43? In fact, isn't it for historians to sort out in years to come?

2. Which climatic scientists contributed to your academy award winning movie? (oh, by the way, I enjoyed Seinfied, but Larry David's wife may be able to warm his climate, but for me, the jury's still out)
3. Regarding that whole "hockey stick" graph... have you refreshed the data inputs to that lately? Do those path-y's still make sense in the context of the most recent data?

California's recent decision to move their Presidential party primaries up to February 5th is not good for the democratic process nor our country.
The only candidates that will be able to get their message out are either the extremely wealthy ones like Steve Forbes or Ross Perot a few years back, or those with the backing of an elite ruling class. This is known as an oligarchy, and it is not a form of government under which I care to live.

I'd like to make an appeal to supporters of Newt Gingrich.
Newt's a tremendous leader. I acknowledge his triumph in 1994. Frankly, he would be high as a personal preference, but realistically, he is very polarizing and can be a bit too blunt.

I created a post here right after the November midterm rout stating that we had to put it behind us and begin to look toward 2008; specifically to identify and rally behind a leader who could return the executive branch to the roots of our "First Principles".
Right now, there is no one running that comes close to filling that void.
That's why I repeat my call to former Senator Fred Thompson. I have created a website: www.draftfredthompson.com. The primary goal of the site is to collect enough messages to Mr. Thompson to encourage him to consider a run for president in 2008.

"Huh", you ask?
Yep, according to the Louisana ACLU. Some citizens in St. Bernard’s Parrish have been working to create a memorial to locals lost in last year's Hurricane Katrina. However, the state chapter of the ACLU has objected because the memorial will include a cross and the image of Jesus.
