FredHead Maggie from Indiana- My apologies

By jforFRED Posted in Comments (13) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

This post is in response to what I felt was a very harsh response to Maggie in Indiana (a fellow proud Fredhead) after she posted an opinion about the media bias against Fred.

Here is the link to that post.
http://www.redstate.com/blogs/maggie_in_indiana/2008/jan/06/fred_slammed...

We were all once new Red State members and we are all avid supporters of someone or something.

Red State members- Please don't attack posters who have nothing but the best of intentions. She has been on this site for a week.

I think many posters have recommended their own blog in fault, not knowing of the "official" policy, not realizing the "recommended your own blog gestapo" would soon be en route. I know it happened to me. I was very nervous every time I posted, I felt like I was asking the cute girl at recess to go to the dance with me.

I still worry that I'll write something that gets massacred by the crowd, and though this is all electronic, I still allow for a small wall around me when I post, just in case.

Bad enough that much of the promoting of our candidates is led by attacks on other candidates, but on each individual poster... really does not make sense and makes all conservatives and Republicans look very week and very petty. I don't think we need to unite behind a candidate quite yet, though I do have reasons I think it should be Fred when the time comes.

Conversation, arguments, even discussion on a peaceful level will help us all find the best candidate. It happens in pro sports, its why I believe there should always be a GM and a coach, stimulating disagreements make for better choices.

Reality- The volunteers and supporters of Republican candidates should think into the future, and envision a party in which we all attack each other like this. (I may be mistaken, but I though another "rule" was not to use capitals unless it meant you wanted to yell at someone.) How are we going to come together?

I wear my support for Fred Thompson on my sleeve. I work a full-time job, two part-time jobs in a sport that I love.

I also volunteer what has amounted to another 20-30 hours a week for Fred here in California. Because I'm a volunteer, my finances and checkbook are not injured if Fred does not move on, but my heart is bruised with every negative story I see on the news. I know how Maggie feels.

I think all candidates at some time or another have had negative coverage, but I really think that Fred has endured better than any of the others would have. Battle tested- yes Fred is.

And for those of you thinking I write this only because Maggie is a Fred supporter, go back through my posts, I certainly have opinions on the candidates, but remain a huge fan of John McCain and Duncan Hunter and an admirer of Rudy Guiliani and I think supporters of these candidates have received some abuse before as well. I have less positive feelings about Romney and Huckabee, but I do see many positives that both could bring to the table as our nominee or as President.

I see no reason for this response to Maggie and hope that posters will realize that yes, as it has been said time and time again, we need to come together very soon. It will be much easier if we can all agree to disagree on the candidate, but try a bit harder not to alienate each other so much.

I learned in the last year that electronic communication, despite its incredible benefits and ease, can also really hurt relationships as I have ruined a relationship with a close relative, yes... over politics.

When our nominee is chosen, and its time for us all to unite, ultimately, the candidate will be important in our ability to do so, but our memories will be fresh in the relationships that we have created in person and online, and our ability will come together will in great part be based on our ability to put our differences aside and work together. I can work with everyone who disagrees with me, those who attack me personally, not too sure how much of a team player I will be.

I remind us all to reflect on 2007, when we think about the chaos, the massacres, and brutality involved in much of the world's choosing of its leaders, and remember how incredibly blessed we are to be Americans.

I've said many times, as Duncan Hunter aptly stated, "I will never apologize for being an American."

I will likewise never apologize for my passionate support for Fred Thompson.

But when the cards are on the table, and the nomination has been selected, I will also be very proud to be not only an American, but a Republican.

Relax everyone, let's enjoy this wonderful opportunity we have to have strong, intelligent and respectful debates about the future of the great nation.

Thanks to all of my Red State friends, I truly think you are just that, because I look forward to contributing to this site every day, and reading your thoughts. I enjoy the daily education I receive being a part of this group and being a part of the political process. In only a few places on Earth, can an average person like me have the opportunity to contribute to something so important and feel great about doing it.

God bless you all and enjoy your Sunday.

You and Maggie will get used to him. He's personally on a mission to bash Fred and his supporters every chance he gets. If you notice his comment posting, it's about a 10 to 1 ratio of anti-Fred to pro-McCain (his candidate, supposedly). One guarentee is, if there's a Fred blog, even if he has nothing to say, he will still comment.

Yes, you guys need to feel around a little before posting. Yes, you do not want to recommend your own blogs.

I'm also new, but am trying to "learn" the community before jumping in a lot.

And am used to it, and a lot of people make these mistakes, not just Fred supporters.

...is probably not what he intends. He's ground me down enough that I can honestly say, I might not be able to pull the lever for McCain.

I better crank it up a few notches. You know you like me around, wreaking havoc in the FDT worship sessions - I get to be the victim of your self-righteous anger that is better directed at your candidate and his inability to get the job done.

You should look back - I stayed away post-Iowa so that I wouldn't get accused of piling on or preaching "I told you so". I actually thought I would be able to refocus my attention on getting McCain elected, but then it turns out you FredHeads are more unreasonable than I thought. Good times ahead!

"Worship Sessions?"
Yeah, I am happy to be at the Alter of True Conservatism.

Sure as heck beats the pants off of supporting a guy that whines and runs to the media to get back at the President and screams at $2000-ticket paying attendees when he didn't like the questions.

Uh huh - bring it on...

Despite you. Sorry, your comments really don't mean a thing to me, you were just a bit out of line with Maggie from Indiana, that was not about Fred, it was about her.

But you keep doing what you like to do, enjoy!

Like I said, the only effect you've had on me is to drive me away from considering McCain.

I actually don't have any of that "self-righteous anger" you speak of. I was merely explaining your game.

please don't recommend your own post should suffice...no need to be nasty.

I am sure it would be best if everyone read the posting rules before they felt compelled to blog or respond but that would be like everyone reading the small print on everything...you know you don't but you buy it anyway.

You know- I thought we were supposed to be civil and NOT be what the Libs accuse us of (narrow-minded, angry, intolerant jerks...)

However... I am also rather stunned that SOME people get punted off the site for far less than match's "temper tantrum." How come "hiding behind the keyboard" rhetoric-cause-it's-not-my-guy is ok?

May RS v3.0 provide us with such pleasures!

Youtube style positive or negative vote for the comments. That way the person can get the point that what they have said is negative and adds nothing to the discussion. This also provides a good way to politely let someone know if they are off topic. It's helpful to newer posters/lurkers to know that such comments are not tolerated.
