By Joliphant

Do you like to watch television ?
At night or in the mornings ??

Have you noticed that some commercials are unusually loud ??
I mean really really loud ?? Loud enough to knock you out of a pleasant slumber ??

Yep me too. Usually I just note the advertiser and try to never ever do business with them.

Well it seems this isn't good enough for some of our congress critters. They have introduced H.R. 6209

Posted at 3:48pm on Jun. 22, 2008 What 250 years of climate change has meant to you and why weren't you supposed to know ?

By Joliphant

On June 19th the U.S. Climate Change Science Program released its report "Weather and Climate Extremes in a Changing Climate". The full report can be found here.

Like many government reports the authors seem to get paid by the pound and the way things are said is even more important than what is said. Finally there is the way the report is presented to the public.

Posted at 5:48pm on Jun. 18, 2008 Nuclear Energy: A solution looking for a problem ??

By Joliphant

Has the Right's position on energy been hijacked by the left without us realizing it ? Are we playing on their field with their bat ,ball and the umpire they hired ?

I ask because currently the hot button topic is energy. It's not as big as it was in the 70s when it was a fighting issue but it's big again and everyone seems to have an answer to the problem. (Well except the people in the business, clueless lot aren't they that people on the street know their business better than them ?)

HOT NEWS ABOUT THE SUN

Not in the future—but right now—scientists are putting to work the limitless energy of the sun.

By Lester David

SOON, a native of East Punjab, India, will walk into the local version of the neighborhood hardware emporium, plunk down 80 rupees and buy a newfangled kind of stove. Back home, he’ll proudly unwrap the shiny gadget, set it up and tell his wife to start dinner.

By Joliphant

SAVE THE PLANET BURN SOME COAL

From the original summary of the Seawifs results

Everything about life on Earth depends on life in the ocean. After all, this is a blue planet, with about 70 percent of the total surface awash with one of the most common molecular compounds known: water. The oceans regulate the planet's biological wellbeing. But water alone is not enough. Life in its most common forms demands a ready supply of a particular element if it's to thrive: carbon. It's the same stuff that composes lowly coal, and it's the core of proud tree trunks. Carbon is the root of all life on Earth, and as it's complex dance carries it through the biosphere, the Earth's state of health responds.

Guess what ? IT SEEMS CO2 isn't just good it's great !!! At least the earth thinks so.

Posted at 9:07pm on Jun. 6, 2008 How Much is 2+2 ? What would you like it to be ?

By Joliphant

Bear with this joke, it explains much of our politics lately.

There's an old joke about a businessman interviewing for a new accountant.

He has a French accountant, a German accountant and a project manager from NASA seeking the position. They are all intelligent and presentable so he decides to ask a simple question to see who should have the job.

He asks the French accountant: How much is 2+2 ?

The French accountant is indignant: Sacre bleau that question is an insult any French child could answer it. 2+2 is quatre. Bien sur no ?

He asks the German Accountant: How Much is 2+2

The German Accountant: Flabbergasted. 2+2 ZIS IS 4. It has always been 4. It always will be 4.

He finally asks the NASA project manager: How Much is 2+2.

The NASA project manager looks at him and says: You are going to be running for the senate next year aren't you ?

By Joliphant

It's D-Day + 64 years. How does Google choose to commemorate all those that fell fighting for freedom ?

I am flabbergasted. It is one thing to not pay the appropriate respect, but their choice of an obscure artist ? it is an insult.

Note from Erick: Just like Memorial Day!

Sorry Moe

As neat an idea as it is to have our new robot overlords assembling themselves and growing smarter at an exponential rate, this isn't the device that's their progenitor.

It's a nice publicity ploy but that is about it. That machine didn't build a single wire that you see in the picture. It didn't build any of the electronics used to control it. It didn't build any of the aluminum rods that compose its structure. It didn't build any of the bands that connect its gears. It didn't build any of the metal fasteners holding it together. It for real certain didn't build the stepper motors that make it go.

Why is it that Hollywood can't make a movie these days without injecting BDS into the plotline ?

If you haven't seen the remake of the Andromeda strain yet, DON'T BOTHER. It's not enough that it's significantly inferior cinema compared to the original. The makers had to go off the walls in injecting their psychosis into the movie.

What does this new upgraded Andromeda have courtesy of Hollyweird ?

By Joliphant

From the New York Times

This is just for anyone who ever thought global warming was ever about the climate. There is this article in the lancet (The same medical journal that brought you Iraq War casualties inflated by a factor of 10) stating that obese people contribute to global warming.

By Joliphant

"As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: "Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided." We have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."

Promoted from the diaries...

Something happens that reminds why I voted for them in the first place. Our leaders can and do demonstrate stunning moments of clarity on the big issues that the opposition can't even dream of.

From the Wall Street Journal

The President spoke to the Israeli Knesset yesterday and once again showed, he knows whats important in the world and why.
