1,000,000 immigrants a year stopped by an appointment and an executive order

Sorry the Republican president isn't GWB, it was Eisenhower.

The year was 1953 and we had a million illegals crossing the border every year illegally. Farmers in the southwest were exploiting the immigrants for cheap labor. Democrat politicians were favoring open borders amongst them future president Lyndon Baines Johnson. A culture of corruption was in place where the guilty were shielded.
Ike saw the problem. He acted by appointing General Joeseph Swing as head of the border patrol. General Swing took the entrenched bureaucracy out the picture and then under President Eisenhower's orders began deporting illegals at the rate of 1000 a day.
By the end of operation wetback they had deported 50,000 aliens from Arizona and California, and another 80,000 from Texas. 1000000 + left voluntarily.
54 years later, 10 times as many border patrol agents and we need a giant fence and amnesty. I don't think so. We need a new president that will do what needs being done. We need to kill any bill from congress until we get one.
This would have been destroyed and stopped even before it started for being so "racist, biggoted, and mean spirited".
That is why we can't stop it today. No one has the guts to do the right thing anymore!

if faced with shrinking prospects for jobs. The notion that we don't have the ability to 'round up 12 million people, and therefore we must embrace them' is false. If we strengthen enforcement, millions will self deport. In a matter of a decade, we may have less than a million illegals. I'm in favor of Romney, because my hope is that he will be "smooth enough" to come up with a politically correct way of explaining why we are toughening our borders, and his record is that of never rewarding illegal immigration.
you have to turn the financial incentive of coming here illegally into financial disincentive. There could be a number of ways to do this. The easiest is to make them pay for their own deportation and give most of the money to the local jusrisdictions that pick them up. Combine this with a biometric ID and a guest-worker program and they would all fall in line pretty quickly. If you cheat... it costs you. If you play by the rules you make out.
None of it should involve any kind of enhanced benefits or fast-track to citizenship for those who want to apply.
What keeps us from rounding them up and putting them in work camps like Joe Arpiao has? Send them out on chain gangs to do the harvesting and use the money to pay for their incarceration and ultimate deportation.
Here in Florida, the growers don't care who does the harvesting as long as their fruit gets picked. This would stop the second-tier "foreign aid" leak and help pay for the much-needed government service of the Department of Corrections.
Just a thought.

The ACLU would have a fit today, just for using such an offensive term.
