I heard you on Michael Medved today. VERY impressive. Gives real hope for the future.
Please do NOT entertain being McCain's VP.
That would needlessly abort your development and potential. Keep your eye on that to which you have committed yourself - building up Louisiana. When your many great initiatives have become fruitful there, your experience will propel you at the right time.

1) Obama wins the protracted primary battle as damaged goods such that even John McCain can beat him in the fall.
2) John McCain delivers 2 solid choices for the Supreme Court and resolution of needed Iraq stabilization.
3) Unfortunately, he will also systematically undercut conservative principles on most other issues. This will continue the Republican House and Senate purge in 2010 and 2012 as McCain is defeated in re-election.

Why are you losing?
You have no core. You have no conviction for conservative principles. You have no backbone to stand up for proper governance.
When in the majority, you governed like Democrats – thoroughly irresponsible spending and opportunistic voting gimmicks rather than having real conviction about those “hot topic” issues raised every election year. You were exposed as the utter hypocrites many of you are. Your central theme in 2006 was: VOTE AGAINST THE DEMS – THEY’RE WORSE THAN US!!! Thoroughly uninspiring. Maddening.

As Super Tuesday approaches, here's one last plea to social conservatives leaning toward Huckabee.
A vote for Huckabee is a vote for Billary (or Obama) in the White House.
In the short run analysis, voting for Huckabee is a vote for John McCain. But in the long run, McCain as the nominee ensures a Democrat wins in November. (And as an aside, it is ironic that many who value the military the most are (by supporting McCain) creating the scenario that easily hands the Presidency to one they despise. But so it will be - it seems.)

I cannot express how profoundly saddened I am for this country because the Republican Party is on the verge of abandoning a sound conservative philosophy. Trying to follow a maverick will splinter - not strengthen - the conservative movement. I hope all conservatives wake up today to rally behind Romney - who, though not perfect, can be a uniter. John McCain will not unite or inspire the base. 2008 will be another 2006.

In the SC three man race, one candidate can unite the Party, while the other two would fracture it in different ways.
Supporters of Huckabee: Yes, he is strong on life. But he is weak on economics and foreign policy. To support him solely because of one issue to the neglect of many others is to spit in the face of fellow conservatives who agree with you on life but need much more than just that in a candidate. Fred can deliver what you want on social issues while aggressively defending the country and encouraging economic prosperity. Please don't spit in our faces. Join us to get common goals accomplished. Voting for Mike harms Fred and likely gives us Rudy or Mitt or John. Vote for Fred and get what you are looking for in Mike. Let us come together. Please don't tear the party apart.

Mitt's departure to Nevada officially makes the South Carolina primary a three man race - between Thompson, McCain and Huckabee.
Only 2 tickets come out of that 3 man race.
To all SC conservatives leaning toward Mitt:
This is your clear opportunity to consolidate behind the one conservative fighting to win in South Carolina - Fred.
A winning (or at least strong 2nd) Fred effectively ends the campaign of whoever languishes in 3rd (John or Mike).

If I lived in the following states, this is how I would vote...
MI: Vote for Romney
NV: Vote for Romney
SC: Vote for Thompson
Conservatives need to coalesce around the most conservative candidate who is active in that state.
Regardless of today's outcome, I would really like to see Romney skip SC and head straight to FL. This would open the door wide for Fred to take down McHuck in SC.

I still don't think John will get the nomination.
But he has a better shot at it than I hoped.
Would I ever support McCain? Never in the primaries.
In the general? I truly don't know. Just letting you know.
Here's the thought process that will tempt me.
I am an actual conservative. If the party leaves conservatism, it has left me behind. John McCain is the death of conservatism in the Republican party. McCain would lead the Rs into the Dem-lite wilderness.

I am assuming (strongly against my preference) that McCain will beat Romney in NH.
If that is so,... where does conventional wisdom get the idea that Romney is toast?
He will have the strongest combination of finishes of any candidate heading to Michigan.
Romney: IA (solid 2nd), WY (1st), NH (solid 2nd)
Huck: IA (clear 1st), WY (nothing), NH (maybe 3rd at best)
McCain: IA (tie for 3rd), WY (nothing), NH (1st)

Relying primarily on a mechanical, Rovian, get-out-the-vote machine does not inspire us to victory.
Rove's operation was effective when there were significant things for which people were motivated to vote. However, in 2006, too much confidence was placed in the mechanical GOTV process rather than inspirational candidates and issues. And anti-Dem scare-mongering is not sufficient. Voting FOR something is much more motivating than voting against someone else.

Evaluating the top 6 choices - in order from most conservative down...
If you want the person who has the strongest foundation of conservative principles, choose Fred. (And if you like Duncan Hunter, vote wisely by choosing Fred.)
If you want the person who will keep his promises (and many of those promises are conservative in nature) and exhibits significant positive attitude and energy, choose Romney.
