Posted at 5:14pm on Jul. 6, 2008 Domestic Oil: 5 years from exploration to production

By Josh Painter

How often have you heard Democrat politicians and liberal environmentalists argue that it makes no sense to drill for oil domestically because it will take at least ten years before we will see any of that oil?

Let's put that old canard permanently to rest, shall we? According to a report from APRN, Alaska's Public Radio Network, it's been done in just half that time:

By Josh Painter

Word is out that Barack Obama and his campaign's brain trust are thinking of staging the most audacious photo op in American political history. But this one will take place on German, not American, soil:

Democratic US presidential candidate Barack Obama has requested permission to give an address at the Brandenburg Gate when he visits Berlin later this month, according to German media reports.

Posted at 7:22pm on Jul. 5, 2008 The amazing coalition

By Josh Painter

Imagine, if you can, liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans joining together for a common purpose. I wouldn't blame you if you're unable to coax your mind into conjuring up such an image. But despite the odds against it, such an unlikely coalition has indeed formed and is growing rapidly.

Just what could have happened to produce an amazing coalition such as the one I'm blogging about? Surely it must be some universal issue. Four-dollar gasoline? Child abuse? The end of the run of Battlestar Gallactica?

Posted at 8:57am on Jul. 3, 2008 Oh, ye Kossack of little faith

By Josh Painter

It doesn't take much to make Markos Moulitsas, King of the Kos Kidz, go ballistic. The latest flips and flops by preseumptive Democrat presidential nominee Barack Obama are having that effect. But Kos has been known to hurl his favorite invective ("F*** you") over much less. Here's what the Obamessiah is doing to tie the leftist blogger's undies in such a knot:

Posted at 9:23pm on Jun. 29, 2008 Dems to America: 'No, you can't.'

By Josh Painter

Democrats are nothing if not ironic. Their presumptive predidential nominee has made "Yes, we can" the buzzwords of his campaign, but the message his party sends to Americans is, "No, you can't."

Recent polls from Gallup, Opinion Dynamics, Rasmussen and Zogby are clear evidence that a majority of Americans support increased domestic oil drilling and refining, yet the Democrats in Congress continue to block every proposed bill which would allow it. Democrat "leaders" from from Nancy Pelosi to Harry Reid to Barack Obama and their supporters put their hands over their ears at the mere suggestion and repeat Talking Point #1: "We can't drill our way out of this." According to the Rasmussen survey referenced above, most Americans do not share this assessment.

Posted at 12:21pm on Jun. 27, 2008 Obama - The New King of Flip Flop

By Josh Painter

John Kerry, you're off the hook. Mitt Romney, we're giving you a well-deserved break. You guys were great flip-floppers in your day, but now you've been seriously upstaged. All hail the new King of Flip-Flop - Barack Obama.

As a rookie flip-flopper, Obama first drew the attention of the environmental lobby about this time last year:

Although summer hasn’t officially begun, flip-flop season is well underway and it appears Senator Obama has joined the club. Typically flip-floppers are criticized for their inability to stay firm on an issue, but in Obama’s case, his flop has many environmentalists flipping back his way.

On Tuesday Obama, whose support for coal-to-liquid has been widely criticized by environmentalists, sent out a press release clarifying his position on liquid coal:

Senator Obama supports research into all technologies to help solve our climate change and energy dependence problems, including shifting our energy use to renewable fuels and investing in technology that could make coal a clean-burning source of energy…However, unless and until this technology is perfected, Senator Obama will not support the development of any coal-to-liquid fuels unless they emit at least 20% less life-cycle carbon than conventional fuels.

Posted at 10:38pm on Jun. 21, 2008 A McCain cabinet?

By Josh Painter

Pure speculation time again! Here's my vision of a possible McCain Administration cabinet and some other key posts. Here we go:

Agriculture - Marilyn Musgrave, Congresswoman (R-CO)
Representing Colorado's 4th district, Musgrave is a staunch conservative, strong on domestic drilling and a member of the House Agriculture Committee.

Commerce - Mitt Romney, former Governor (R-MA)

"Same Kool-Aid"

To the tune of "Renegade" by Styx
with my apologies to Tommy Shaw...

Obama, I'm in fear for my country with you as president
I would wake up one day and wonder just where my freedom went
Obama I can hear you a-talking about all your hope and change
But it's the same old politics and I think you're very strange

The jig is up, the news is out
They finally found you

Posted at 7:50pm on Jun. 19, 2008 Is McCain coming around on ANWR?

By Josh Painter

In his townhall meeting here in Springfield, MO, yesterday, GOP presidential nominee-in-waiting John McCain indicated that he may be changing his tune on drilling in Alaska's ANWR reserve. According to the local Gannett fish wrapper:

For years, McCain has opposed drilling for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Refuge Area (ANWR).

Posted at 6:51am on Jun. 19, 2008 Yes, we CAN drill our way out of this

By Josh Painter

You must have seen or heard it. It's been repeated ad nauseum by Democrats on floors of both houses of Congress, before TV cameras and radio microphones and at recent campaign events. "We can't drill our way out of this." The donkey party's latest mantra has been hammered home by the usual suspects from Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to Barack Obama. Like most Democrat talking points, it's a falsehood.

Posted at 7:43pm on Jun. 13, 2008 On the passing of Tim Russert

By Josh Painter

Tim Russert once suprised Sean Hannity by handing him a check for $10,000 made out to the Freedom Alliance Scholorship fund, which provides college education for the children of America's military heroes who have been killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. Does this make him a "closet conservative?"

No, Russert was one of those rare pearls and a disappearing breed in the media pig pen - a classical liberal who still had some degree of journalistic integrity. It should come as no suprise that he would honor our military. Russert honored his father's generation with the book he authored about his own dad and a sequel which honored the fathers of others. He was always learning from his father, even after enjoying success in the media business, as this excerpt from a rare Rush Limbaugh interview illustrates:

Posted at 6:18am on Jun. 11, 2008 The time has come for AMERIPEC

By Josh Painter

The two major political parties are offering very different approaches to dealing with the high cost of energy. The Republicans are advocating measures aimed at increasing the supply of oil, while the Democrats want to punish the major oil companies. The Dems' latest attempts to stick it to big oil failed yesterday in the Senate.

According to the donkey party, high gasoline prices are entirely the fault of the oil companies, and if only we slapped a stiff tax on their "windfall" profits, gas prices would fall faster than the Democrat Congress' approval ratings. Oh yeah, that worked so well the last time it was tried, why not dig up its casket and give it another shot?

Posted at 2:35pm on Jun. 6, 2008 Had enough "change" yet?

By Josh Painter

When the Democrats took over control of Congress in the election of 2006, consumer confidence stood at a 21/2-year high, regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon and the unemployment rate was 4.5 percent.

Since the Democrats took over, consumer confidence is down, gasoline has soared to $4.00 a gallon and the unemployment rate, as we learned this morning, has climbed to 5.5 percent.

Mutual and stock fund losses now total in the trillions, and an increasing number of home mortgages are in foreclosure.

Posted at 10:04am on May 30, 2008 Racist church trumps scathing memoir

By Josh Painter

Just when the Democrats figured it was safe to come out of the Chicago churchhouse, Pfather Pfleger rose sank to the occasion. Now the Dems and their pfrontrunner for the party's presidential nomination, Senator Barack Obama, can't seem to get pfree pfrom the quagmire that is Trinity United Church of Christ.

They thought that had found the perfect "get out of manure free" card. What could be better to get the shamlessly racist church Obama has chosen to attend for over two decades out of the headlines than some new scandal-mongering aimed squarely at the object of the left's obsessive derangement - Chimpy McBushitler? Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan, nouveau riche with thirty pieces of silver from the book deal he had cut with a publishing house connected to leftist sugar daddy George Soros, had just started making the round of television talk shows to publicize his "scathing memoir" just chock full o' "explosive" revelations about the Bush Administration. Hot on his heels was an army of Dem footsoldiers who, in a stretch which would impress even the Fantastic Four's Reed Richards, were trying to use the flap the media was sure to generate over McClellan's book to taint the campaign of Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

Posted at 5:17pm on May 24, 2008 Obama's gun control deception

By Josh Painter

Casual visitors to Barack Obama's website might be misled about the position on gun control held by the U.S. Senate's most liberal member - that is, if they can even find it. One has to first click on "Issues" - then on "Additional Issues" - and then on "Sportsmen" to locate it. Even then, one gets this rather nebulous paragraph:
