Obama the great uniter?

I've been thinking, like many, that Hillary is less of a threat than Obama in the general because of her sky-high unfavorables and a general sentiment that people don't want to have another ligtning rod as President (although all Presidents are lightning rods to some extent), but I don't know if that will be true once the light really shines down on Obama's record.

A lot of this stuff has been posted individually here in other blog entries or comments, but when you put it all together, it becomes quite ugly. I can't see how he can be viewed as a uniter when he is so radically left.

Obama the class warfare monger's tax plan:

Obama is more pro-choice than NARAL - willing to let unwanted newborns go without medical care:

Obama on Israel - doesn't matter if it didn't happen, Israel should still be blamed:

Obama won't wear an American flag lapel pin, but apparently he doesn't mind flags with pictures of the communist terrorist Che Guevera:

Obama on Iraq - releases a statement about pulling out all the troops before General Petraeus even finished his testimony:

I guess that means Obama knows more about what to do re: Al Qaeda than General Petraeus does, I mean we wouldn't want to have Al Qaeda in a state of disarray would we?:

Obama's spiritual advisor - he definitely advocates unity and racial harmony:

No surprise then, that he's the most liberal senator:

But, thank you so much for putting this all together. I have seen so many republicans stating that Obama is better/nicer/more uniting than Hillary, and it scares the daylights out of me. Obama is far to the left of the Clintons, and he has the media fawning all over him. They love him even more than they love Hillary. They would cover for him like crazy. It is amazing that we are this far along into the election cycle, yet still so few know anything about Obama's liberal ways and his past. I was actually thinking of posting something similar because I truly want people to know what we are up against. Barack is NOT a nice man. He just isn't. He is not moderate or someone who wants to unite (unless you call bringing people over to his leftist ideas uniting). The man is seen as a blank slate right now, because that is how he wants to be seen. He does not want the people to be aware of his record or who he really is. And the media will jump all over anyone who tries to reveal the true Obama. I am as anti-Clinton as any other conservative, but I actually pray for Hillary to win the primary. If McCain does not win this thing, I would much rather deal with the poll-following Clintons than the ideologue Obama who no one can criticize or touch because he is guarded so fiercely by the liberal media. This man is dangerous. He really is.

focusing our energy. I'm sure there is much more out there. We need to find it. All of it.
And if he is the nominee, we need to spread this far and wide.

opponent because he has three things that are huge in politics, charisma, charm, and likeability, but that doesn't mean he can't be defeated. He has plenty of weaknesses and it will take a skilled politician to expose them. It is just that simple. If the Reps don't beat him, it isn't because he doesn't have weaknesses. It is because they didn't expose them effectively.

His biggest weakness is that he has no substance. Everytime I find an Obama supporter I ask them which policies of his they like. They either don't know or give some vague reference to Iraq and universal health care. He has little in the way of substance but that hasn't been exposed by Hillary yet. The Reps are going to have to do it.

Here is how I broke him down

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor

The Provocateur

Obama supporters want Obama to be something, not do anything.

And wherever men are fighting against barbarism, tyranny, and massacre, for freedom, law, and honour, let them remember that the fame of their deeds, even though they may be exterminated, may perhaps be celebrated as long as the world rolls round. ~ Winston Churchill

Like you, my initial gut reaction was that Obama was a much tougher opponent for McCain than Mrs. Clinton, if for no other reason than Obama's strengths (youth, energy and charisma) contrasted well against McCain's weaknesses (age, low energy and noticeable lack of charisma). I still think Obama would give McCain a tougher race than Hillary could, but the more I watch Obama, the better I think McCain matches up against Obama.

McCain's strengths are his character, his experiences and his passionate convictions (some conservatives would undoubtedly argue that its just those convictions that cause them their angst). I think McCain's strenghts present real problems for Obama. McCain has gravitas, Obama has only words. Over the course of a long campaign, I think McCain's tortoise has a real chance of beating Obama's hare.

Ah, heck what do I know, its late and I'm tired. I babble nonsense when I am tired.

Kennedy, MLK, Reagan and other great performers never had to give a stump speech nightly on a 24 hour news network. When Obama was rising he was seen once or twice a month.

Now, when they show the same soaring speaking style and rhetoric, they will see Obama is a performer with not policy--as HRC is hinting at now.

McCain will speak to issues and though mods, dems and independents will not always agree with McCain, they will no where he stands and trust him. This is highly underreported right now, but the Dems know it is true which is why they fear McCain.

In this general (if it is Obama) McCain will already look like a president without having to resort to a soaring speech, as Reagan did against Carter (not saying McCain is the next Reagan--before I get chewed out).

And he will be very, very tough. But, he may be more the second coming of Adlai Stevenson than JFK.

NC

McCain looks tired and old, his rhetoric is as tired and old as he is.

Keep in mind that not everyone follows politics like folks here or on the opposite side on lib blogs, in the general election the majority of people will be seeing Obama for the first time and may only tune into a couple speeches total.

The people swooning over Obama now are liberal reporters and young Democratic activists. He's basically a smooth talking, better looking, tan Howard Dean. Everyone has there vulnerabilities. His will come out. He's never really had a tough race before. Obama's opponent in the Ill. Senate race was famous only for being married to 7 of 9 (Jeri Ryan) and trying to have her "assimilated" into a swingers club.

You are right, McCain does look tired and old, but the question is can he make himself look serious and experienced for the general election.

NC

Obama never had a tough race?!? He is going up against Hillary and the Clinton Machine and beating them, thats a tough race.

And yes he is motivating young Democrats and young Independants to come out for him, in fact the youth vote is the largest it has been in this primary than in decades and I will guarantee that if the youth come out and vote they will not be coming out for McCain.

I do not think the conservative base will come out in force for McCain and the conservative base that is so polarized against McCain seem to have lost all their influence...How else can one explain why McCain is the nominee?

Obviously beating Clinton is no mean accomplishment. That having been said, the Clintons are having to pull their punches lest they risk losing their base in the general election.

As for your last point, I am not following. Look for all this talk of conservatives being spitting mad against McCain, they have shown absolutely no ability to stop him in the Republican primary. McCain has a real shot at picking up Independents and Democrats in the General, he may risk losing some movement Conservatives for that prize.

NC

My point about the conservative base was that for awhile they were viewed as the block that needed to be won over for anyone to gain the party nomination, they were also viewed as a means to help sway the general elcetion as well. But even in the primary we are seeing the conservative base become irrelevant. Hatred of the Clintons is a strong motivator but with potentially no Hillary in the general election the base becomes even less relevant.

The McCain of 2000 had a shot at picking up independants and some dems but the McCain of 2008 won't stand a chance.

He cannot clinch the nomination. HRC is not humble enough to bow out, unless she is VP--which I do not think Obama will offer. He can't stand her or Clinton
