Okay Fred, You Can Jump In Any Time You Want

It was kind of fun at first. Watching Fred Thompson on the sidelines and critically pointing out the weaknesses of others and providing a resounding "I could do better."
Now that he is in the race, it still feels like we are waiting for him to jump in. He did a recent ad that slam dunks Romney on abortion and raised serious concerns about Huckabee's fiscal policies as governor, but as a rule, has done little to ignite conservatives. In fact, he almost seems relegated to hurting conservatives who have been in this race far longer in his efforts to catch up in this competitive niche.
Thompson is going to have to make the case for Thompson and not merely be the critic. Otherwise he will be lucky to be more than a footnote in this race. Also, after watching the debate tonight, it would also help if he memorized his lines. So much for all those years of acting.

but I can't help thinking that you are right on. I am really concerned that his answer to the VP question gave me the impression that he is in this to be the VP:
I'm a Fred supporter, but have to say he's not doing well. He's thoughtful and has great ideas, but he's not comming across as passionate.
Huckabee is making a surge, so I asked this question on another post and I'll ask here. If he were to get the nomination, then does this mean that Karl Rove is right about Republicans; that all we care about are judges and tax cuts. Notice I didn't say spending because as far as I can tell, Huckabee is a Compassionate Conservative, like GWB and has no foregin policy experience either. My question, if Huck wins the nomination, then does it mean Republicans want four more years of Bush and that Rove is essentually right about the GOP. I am an Evangelical, but think we need more than Evangelicals to win. Fred is not doing well and we can't pretend he his, so where do we go from here?
One last thing, do we think, Gov. Huckabee can win the general election. Cause I have my doubts about him and frankly Romney?
Pam
My thoughts exactly. You couldn't have summed it up better, really. I'm afraid those two issues may be the only issues driving the Republican Party today. I believe they are both important. Taxes was the wedge issue that brought the electorate back to the Republican Party. But we need something more complete. I thought that would be found in Thompson, but I have my doubts.

None of the others really have...
