Posted at 6:34pm on Jul. 1, 2008 Is This A Mistake, Or Did The AP Just Invent Another Fake Person?

By kingnavland

Alright, so there's this article from the AP that can be found here: http://news.yahoo.com/page/election-2008-political-pulse-military-voices

Such talk rankles Sgt. Kenyon Ralph, 24, of San Diego. Ralph, a Marine reservist who served in Iraq twice, is a member of Iraq Veterans Against The War, and is backing Obama.

Ralph, once a registered Republican who twice voted for President Bush, says he gradually turned against the war, and now says he can't bring himself to vote for someone who supports keeping troops in Iraq.

Posted at 2:16pm on May 31, 2008 Gilmore Squeaks In As VA-SEN Nominee

By kingnavland

According to my source on the inside (Hi Dad!), Jim Gilmore was nominated by the Virginia Republican Convention to be the Senate candidate this afternoon. Bob Marshall made a very strong run at it, but Gilmore survived the challenge by about 80 votes out of around 10,000. Apparently, the VAGOP used some kind of weighted voting system, so it took forever to tabulate the votes. For example, the City of Martinsville (my source's constituency) received 6 delegate votes, but there were only 4 delegates, so each delegate got 1.5 votes.

Posted at 1:18am on May 23, 2008 Why Control of Congressional Delegations Is Important

By kingnavland

We, being the wonderfully educated readers and participants and RedState, know fully well why such control is important. In case of a tie in the Electoral College, the election of the President goes to the House - and every state gets one vote. Delaware has as much voice as California. The question is: why is it relevant?

Well, I was surfing through the blogosphere here in the early morning and I discovered an article from salon.com (linked by Slate, which was linked by Instapundit - I'll link it at the very end, because HTML and I don't get along) in which the possible Electoral Vote scenarios are hashed out. Of course, one of them would be a tie. 269-269. Guess where that election gets tossed? Into the House. Guess who has the most delegations in the House? Yeah. The bad guys. It's 27-21-2. It takes 26 to win.

Posted at 2:11am on Apr. 3, 2008 Re: 5 Most Competitive Senate Seats

By kingnavland

Okay, yeah, the 5 most competitive are all Republican seats, and 9 out of 10 are Republican. But honestly, y'all - is anyone really concerned about Elizabeth Dole? We've seen the polls out of Maine - Susan Collins is fine. Oregon is a unique situation, but our moderate there should hold the seat just fine.
There's only 7 really competitive seats. And yes, 6 of the 7 are Republican-held. So let's go in order.

Posted at 1:35am on Feb. 26, 2008 Barack Obama Picked Me Up At The Airport

By kingnavland

This would have gone in an open thread, but I didn't see one around, so here it is:

Hope and change, personalized and with specifics. What more could you want?

EDIT: So I didn't know this had come by two days ago, my fault. But if you're going to accuse me of drive-by shilling for Barack Obama, you should at least check my profile and see exactly how long I've been here and my previous content.

Posted at 5:31pm on Feb. 14, 2008 Ron Paul has an primary opponent. Please support him.

By kingnavland

So Boehner ordered the walkout before the contempt of Congress resolutions and most House Republicans followed those orders. A few didn't, and stayed behind to vote no. Three RiNOs decided to buck the party altogether. Not only did these three individuals not walk out, they chose to vote for the contempt of Congress resolutions.

They are:
Wayne Gilchrest (MD) - This one got primaried, praise God.

Posted at 1:53pm on Jan. 25, 2008 Liveblogging the 2008 Washington and Lee Democratic Mock Convention

By kingnavland

Yes, this is RedState. We like Republicans. But Sun-tzu would tell us that we have to know our enemy. So for this reason, I'm live-blogging the 2008 Washington and Lee University Democratic Mock Convention.
What's so special about this Convention? Well, it's the most accurate mock convention in America. W&L students have correctly predicted the nominee for the party it's mocking 18 out of 23 times, and has missed only once since 1948. (In 1972, the Convention selected Ted Kennedy instead of George McGovern. The real convention should have taken W&L's advice.) For more information, you can check out mockcon.wlu.edu.

Posted at 10:00pm on Jan. 23, 2008 A Second Lease on Life

By kingnavland

So I was reading Campaign Spot over at NRO, and Jim Geraghty reported this tidbit from a Louisiana political veteran (link at bottom):

About 90 percent of the pro-family slate was actually Thompson supporters. If Fred were to jump back into the race, he would almost certainly pick up all 47 of Louisiana's delegates.

Due to Louisiana's weirded out system, they haven't actually picked their convention delegates yet, but "Pro-Life Uncommitted" carried the day in the caucus.

I think it's 22 that was DeLay's old district.
Anyway... check out this link. Does this sort of thing happen all the time, or has the Republican made a grave error here?

Posted at 5:50pm on Jan. 18, 2008 I've been discriminated against! SUE!!!!

By kingnavland

Okay, not really.

Poor starving college student that I am, I can afford the $1.55 that it took me to vote by absentee. (If you care, I spent $.41 on the "request for absentee ballot" and $1.14 on actually sending the 2.3 ounce ballot in the large envelope that the absentee ballot office so kindly provided.)

Anyway, the point of this short note was to ask if we should start a RedState pool on how quickly the ACLU would take the case of some indigent person who couldn't afford the postage to mail their absentee ballot.

Posted at 10:46pm on Jan. 10, 2008 So Huck Made a "Gates of Hell" Comment

By kingnavland

I'm not actually watching the debate, since my roommate is playing Mario Super Smash Brothers on an Nintendo-64, but I understand that Huck made some kind of comment about the "gates of hell" and the Iranian thing with the boats.

He stole the line from Stephen Colbert. He was on Colbert again last night and Colbert asked him if he would hunt Osama bin Ladin "to the gates of hell."

Ordinarily this would be inconsequential, but it irritates me that everyone's giving him credit for a line that isn't his - a line on a serious foreign policy issue that he stole from a comedian.

Posted at 1:44am on Jan. 4, 2008 QUESTION: Delegate Allotment

By kingnavland

So on cnn.com's results page here:
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#IA

It shows Obama with 16 delegates, Edwards with 14, and Hillary with 15. How does Hillary get more delegates than Edwards?

Also, it shows Republican delegates being allotted and Fred, McCain and HWSNBN all have a couple or three... is there not a 15% rule in Iowa?

Posted at 5:23pm on Jan. 2, 2008 We will not win in November by being Democrat-lite.

By kingnavland

Why can't we just nominate a true conservative? (As you may have guessed, I support Fred, but if you believe that your man Mitt or John or HWSNBN is a true conservative, then that's cool too.) We're told we can't nominate someone who is totally conservative because he won't be "electable."

Remind me again who the Democrats are nominating. Ah, yes, Hillary Clinton. Her unfavorables are so high, her baggage is so extensive that practically anyone will be electable when running against her.

Posted at 3:56pm on Dec. 28, 2007 The Reports of Fred's Demise Are Greatly Exaggerated.

By kingnavland

Despite Mark I's latest RedHot quoting the Politico article saying that Fred is out of money, the Fred08 email list has told subscribers that the first part of the ad buy has been placed and the campaign is nearly to its goal of $286,000 by 6 PM tonight. In an email timed 12:19 EST, the campaign informed supporters that the campaign "raised enough money to get Fred's television ad on the air in Iowa." However, the campaign was still about 85K short of the goal.

Posted at 4:11pm on Dec. 11, 2007 Reflections on the Current State of Affairs

By kingnavland

So Huckabee's charging in the polls, despite being a Christian Socialist. He'll implode. I hope. SoCons have always been sketchy on Giuliani and, to a lesser extent, Romney. Somebody doesn't like McCain, but I can't remember who it is. And HWSNBN is HWSNBN.

Has anybody put forth a good reason not to vote for Fred?

Just asking... the man's a solid conservative and he'll mop the floor debating the b**** or Oprah-bama in the general.
