Path to 9/11: Clinton puzzles me

But then he always did.

This is kinda weird. I've visited all the big-name blogs I usually read, and even some I don't, and nobody's got a "Path to 9/11" reaction up yet. I don't know what to think!

Well, I watched it and Tivo'd it to watch it again later. I thought it was pretty good. As comprehensive as Part 1 of a five-hour movie can be.

First surprise: Thomas Kean, co-executive producer? That Thomas Kean?

Second surprise: Every scene Mike Krempasky thought might be edited out was in the flick.

Now, to the heart of the matter. Was Clinton freaking out because he just hadn't seen the movie yet? He did have some successes, after all. Under his administration, federal prosecutors nailed the ring that bombed the World Trade Center in 1993. And while they got lucky with an INS agent on the Canadian border, they did stop the Millenium plots, which apparently was a much bigger deal than advertised at the time.

And he had some failures: Khobar Towers, the African embassies, the Cole. He had chances to take bin Laden out of the game and missed the opportunities. He didn't invade Afghanistan. I continue to believe that, at the time, this would've been inconceivable. Everybody thought his response to the embassy bombings was sleight of hand to distract from Lewinsky. I know I did. The movie folks made it seem that impression was widespread. And, of course, the reaction turned out to be ineffective: We bombed an aspirin factory in Sudan and drove a $40 million missile up a camel's ass in Afghanistan. Except we missed the camel.

One of Clinton's people came off badly in this thing: NSC Director Sandy Berger, who seems like a weasel. And I really can't work up much sympathy for someone who stuffs classified docs in his Jocks.

As for Madelyn Albright, I have no idea why she's got her panties in a bunch. She's overbearing, but hell, that's why they paid her the big bucks.

I'm sure I'll be less forgiving of tomorrow's episode, once Bush is inaugurated. But really, the Clinton folks' reaction to the news that they'd be in a movie reflected much more badly on them than the movie did. And the D's in the Senate were just flat out of control.

Cross-posted at Can't See the Center.

The Left's reaction probably was so over the top it revealed much more about their worldview than they probably want advertised. I'm not even certain is was about Clinton per se.

So you really haven't seen the stuff they threw a tizzy over. Until then you are uninformed (just like most of us). Tune into Rush tomorrow for the full skinny.
