By krempasky

This has been a busy year for me in many ways - and it's no secret that John McCain didn't exactly inspire me in the primary. Pile all that on top of how damn demoralizing our leaders at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue can be, and I've been feeling remarkably bleh about this election.

That is, until I actually listen to a Barack Obama speech. Seriously, I highly recommend biting your tongue for 30 minutes, and find an actual, full-length speech from the Democratic nominee. Don't rely on some blog quote you saw, don't just sit back and wait for talk radio hosts to digest and soundbite the man - listen to him in his element. (Start here.)

Posted at 10:57pm on Nov. 12, 2007 Have you been to the Leadership Institute? Why not?

By krempasky

I'm spending my evening at the Leadership Institute in Arlington, VA for their Blogging/Internet Workshop. But as I'm sitting here in the audience, I'm wondering if this audience here at RedState really knows what sort of resource LI is.

As a whole, the conservative movement has a number of leaders that play all sorts of different roles. One of the standouts - and in my opinion, the best bang for your donor dollar is Morton Blackwell's operation in Virginia.

Posted at 1:45pm on Mar. 10, 2007 More from the reality-based community

By krempasky

Oh, this is rich. I'm in Austin, TX for South by Southwest. A quick gander at the schedule reveals this gem:

Dan Rather Keynote Interview

Room Hilton / Grand Ballroom

Monday, March 12th

2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The veteran television newsman reflects on how emerging technology has rewritten the mass media landscape.

Moderator: Jane Hamsher Publisher, The Fire Dog Lake Company

I'll bet $100 that Dan and I will be the only people in the room to have actually read the 234-page Thornburgh report. And I'm not that sure about Dan.

Any advice?

By krempasky

Despite Nancy's representation of one of the most liberal districts in the country, it appears that she's facing an unexpected grassroots campaign in her backyard. Sent to me by a friend in San Francisco...and yes, this is real.

Beginning this afternoon and through the evening, I'll be participating in an odd experiment with CNN. Think alcohol plus political bloggers plus election day MINUS those pesky FCC regulations.

By krempasky

UPDATE by CLAYTON: Because Revver.com pulled the video clips, without any warning to us, we are reposting using YouTube. Please head over to the Main 911Clips Page to see the videos and synopsis.

Thanks to a anonymous regular over at Television Without Pity, here's a synopsis of each scene depicted in the ABC clips.

CLIP ONE

Against a barren central Asian landscape, an American special action
team moves in for a "snatch" operation on Osama bin Laden. But back
in Washington, DC, Clinton's National Security Advisor cannot bring
himself to make the final call.

By krempasky

ImageBut come on, folks..it ain't *that* barren. We're still looking for submissions for (among others) Alabama, Iowa (!), Missouri, Nevada, and Wisconsin. You can see the full list here - but go to the submission form and give us the heads up on state blogs that focus on policy and politics.

Posted at 2:39pm on Aug. 24, 2006 Attention NRSC donors: ask for a refund

By krempasky

Seriously. This is what your money is being spent on - attack ads on behalf of Lincoln Chafee. Give me a break. We're fighting on enough fronts to keep the Senate - and this is what Liddy Dole sees as a priority. No wonder their fundraising is in the tank. If Republicans want to make a real statement about their committment to winning elections, they ought to yank her BEFORE election day. Period.

My only regret is that our dear correspondent didn't mention the Illuminati, the Masons *or* the Bilderbergers. Rank amateur if you ask me... On the bright side, there's still time for her to get to Connecticut.

Posted at 8:58am on Aug. 14, 2006 Thanks to those that keep the lights on

It's been a busy week here at the new version of RedState and the RedState Network. Clayton has been working 'round the clock to get the sites up and running - and there's one other group of folks that we really do need to thank: our advertisers. With the relaunch and the growing pains, they've been very patient as we move into our new digs.

So please, take a minute and hear what they have to say. We're luckier than most in that we tend to get pretty creative advertisers here at RedState. They know who they're reaching - so let them know you're watching.

Posted at 11:51pm on May 10, 2006 That little heart on your driver's license

By krempasky

I'm an organ donor. I've always been an organ donor. They put that little red heart on my driver's license and it buys me a few treasures in heaven. Or some peace of mind, or self-satisfaction for doing a good dead. Or something.

But of course there's no real committment involved. Presumably, I won't be using my corneas or kidneys or liver by the time they come to get them - Monty Python notwithstanding.

All that said - I recently heard from a friend about a special Mother's Day drive by the National Marrow Donor Program. A simple process to register and give samples to be listed in the registry.

It's a good and worthy cause - and a chance to give of yourself to someone who needs it. I'm signing up, I hope you'll join me.

Posted at 9:36pm on Nov. 7, 2005 Democracy 21: Injection of honesty needed

By krempasky

Here we go again. From Democracy21's latest..

- NOTE TO THE MEDIA -

Enclosed for your information is a ''Dear Colleague'' letter sent today by Representatives Christopher Shays (R-CT) and Marty Meehan (D-MA) to all House members, urging them to cosponsor H.R. 4194, the Internet Anti-Corruption and Free Speech Protection Act.

According to the letter, ''This legislation would exempt communications by bloggers on their websites from campaign finance law and keep intact the soft-money ban on Internet advertising.''

The letter continues, ''On November 2, the House rejected flawed legislation, H.R. 1606, that would have fully exempted Internet communications from campaign finance regulation and eviscerated the soft money ban enacted by Congress in 2002.''

The letter states,''We want to make clear - no one, on either side of the debate, wants to restrict free speech on the Internet. Bloggers should be able to write and debate opinions without fear that they are violating the law.  H.R. 4194 embraces this principle just as clearly as H.R. 1606.''

According to the letter, ''At the same time, our bill would make clear that corrupt soft money could not be used by federal candidates, in coordination with corporations, labor unions, and wealthy individuals, and by political parties and others to buy Internet ads to influence federal elections.''

I'll have more on this tomorrow - but they continue to show their true colors. Only in Democracy21-land is a majority vote in the House a "rejection" of a flawed bill. What failed was a procedural vote to suspend the rules.

Their legislation would hardly protect bloggers, and I think we should spend plenty of time talking about this big fat flaming lie, "H.R. 4194 embraces this principle just as clearly as H.R. 1606"Um. No. Not even close. And for why - (I can't believe I'm about to do this) - check out this thread by Kos.
