Free Markets vs. Sicko

It is not just that the king of propaganda slime, Michael Moore, has a new documentary on health care coming out called Sicko. Health care will also be an important issue in the presidential election next year. It is an issue that favors Democrats but doesn't need to. All Republican candidates should visit this site on a regular basis. The videos will intellectually blow you away. They have more than just anecdotes, too. They have hard numbers demonstrating that a government monopoly on health care like Canada's is a bad idea.
It is not that the U.S. health care system is perfect. As with almost any economic decision, the final choice is a balance of the demands and values for each person. Everyone has different priorities that lead to individual choices. Unfortunately with our third party paying system, most people have limited to no choice on health care.
HMO's are in a no win situation. They cannot satisfy both the businesses that demand lowest cost and the employees who demand better benefits. It is no wonder that HMO's have approval ratings near the same level as Congress.
