Posted at 2:41pm on Jul. 10, 2008 New State Auditor in Oklahoma!

By LanceKates

Oklahoma's Democrat Governor, Brad Henry, appointed Steve Burrage of Antlers to replace Jeff McMahan as State Auditor.

McMahan, of course, was conviced of being corrupt and a general slimeball.

The calls were for someone good and conservative and corruption free to replace McMahan. The governor has kept Democrats in this post during his time as Governor and, frankly, they bit.

By LanceKates

A County Commissioners meeting in Dallas County ran into a little problem.

You see, Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, a white fellow, was talking about the ability of the central collections office to lose alot of paperwork, specifically discussing traffic tickets and such. He referred to this ability for paperwork to enter the office and disappear as the office becomming "a black hole" of sorts.

By LanceKates

On Tuesday, Senator McCain went before the League of Latin American Citizens and gave a speech.

snippet:

Senator John McCain told a major Hispanic group here Tuesday that he remained committed to passing the kind of immigration legislation that angered many Republican voters last year, but he underscored that he intended to first secure U.S. borders.

Posted at 12:36pm on Jul. 8, 2008 Democrat Congress doing GREAT!

By LanceKates

Why, in this recent report from Rasmussen, the Democrat Congress' approval rating is a whopping 9%.

In fact, they haven't been above 15% since the beginning of the year.

It is a pity that, despite this woefully low approval rating, the Democrats are expected to not only retain controll of Congress, but actually gain seats.

Posted at 9:56am on Jul. 8, 2008 Senator McCain on Fox and Friends.

By LanceKates

This morning I caught Senator McCain on Fox and Friends.

It was a decent enough short interview. However, one question was asked that, I thought, McCain didn't answer. Not only did he not answer, he did the opposite of the question.

Senator McCain was asked how he responded to suggestions that he start to show more fire and asked when we would start seeing him taking democrats to task and start attacking Obama.

Posted at 9:34am on Jul. 8, 2008 Iran to charge death penalty for "online crimes"

By LanceKates

President Ahmadinejad, apparently an active blogger in Iran, is cracking down on other bloggers and on those who go online in general.

Via the International Freedom of Expression Exchange, as reported at The Jerusalem Post, it is now going to be a crime punishable by death to engage in "promoting corruption, prostitution and apostsy" via blogs.

Posted at 10:16am on Jul. 7, 2008 Oklahoma discusses 4 day work week for State Employees

By LanceKates

From NewsOK.com, we see a story today about the state of Oklahoma discussing a 4 day work week.

The benefits are obvious, many of whiich are spelled out.

4 ten hour days allow the different departments to be open longer, letting them more easily serve the public.

Employees get an extra day off with a cost of 2 hours extra per work day (which, from experience, is barely noticible and well worth the cost of an extra day off).

Posted at 10:08am on Jul. 7, 2008 Why one shouldn't go target shooting while tired. (Open Thread?)

By LanceKates

While I look for something actually newsworthy, I thought I'd present a story that happened to me yesterday.

I was rather excited to wake up and go target shooting yesterday. It has been a while and it was going to be a good day to bring my mosin nagant to the outdoor range with the new red dot sight I put on it.

I wanted to get the sight aligned at 100 yards for my first hunting trip sometime this summer or fall, for hogs (which do not require a permit or have any limits or closed season in oklahoma).

Posted at 2:57pm on Jul. 2, 2008 A Glimpse into the future of Government-Provided Healthcare

By LanceKates

Well, we hear the hype regarding Universal Healthcare. How great it'll be.... how horrible it'll be. How inexpensive it'll be.... how expensive it'll be. Back and forth, both sides go.

Pro-Universal Healthcare people put up stories by Celebrities, who report going to a doctor for a small issue and getting immediate free care that takes care of the problem. Anti-Universal Healthcare people remark that such celebrities are given special treatment and that the poor, who actually pay for this through taxes, are often left waiting in line for weeks and months to get any help at all.

Posted at 9:55am on Jul. 1, 2008 Atlanta Disarms Public "to make them safer"

By LanceKates

Georgia has a new law that took affect at midnight, allowing citizens with a concealed carry permit to carry in public transportation places like the MARTA or in other places like airport terminals (not past or at security checkpoints, obviously)

The City of Atlanta, specifically officials at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, doesn’t like the law. So they are going to operate in violation of it.

Posted at 9:45am on Jun. 27, 2008 Mayors give Supreme Court the finger.

By LanceKates

The Supreme Court ruled that the individual has a right to keep and bear firearms, and that total handgun bans are not reasonable.

There are some mayors who think this is a bad idea.

The Mayor of San Francisco feels that the ruling "just flies in the face of reality." Mayor Newsom claims that if the Justices just spent a week in public housing, they'd clearly reverse their decision and decide that the 2nd Amendment shouldn't let someone own a firearm to defend themselves. I'm not quite sure how that applies, but I've never accused someone from San Francisco's government of being rational.
