No Fat People Allowed

I don't usually write blogs, in fact this is my first, I usually just comment on others. But I came across this bill introduced in the Mississippi House by two Republicans and a Democrat and felt it warranted it.

The Bill, HR 282, sums itself up well in its title: An Act To Prohibit Certain Food Establishments From Serving Food To Any Person Who Is Obese...

Now I'm all for encouraging healthy behavior, and don't mind discriminating against fat people, but are Republicans in Mississippi really in favor of a squad of undercover obese people catching McDonald's not asking for BMI scores of anyone who appears over 120 lbs?

This may be just a bit of an undue burden on 'certain food establishments', and definitely comes across as a new low for government interference in both commerce and personal choice. Now I don't know how far this is expected to go in Mississippi, but if the National Parties get wind of it, how long will it be before it is being signed by Hillary or McCain?

I hit submit instead of preview - good thing I can edit it

Check your spelling though. You wouldn't want anyone here to confuse you with a liberal. ;o)

This has to be the most idiotic, populist, POS legislation I've ever seen. Not only is it unenforceable (as you point out), but it also shows how legislators today really don't have a clue what they're doing.

It might interest you to know that two of the three sponsors of HR 282 are Republicans.
