By Leon H Wolf

Gerald Ford once said that he was prepared to have his entire Presidency judged by the nomination of Justice Stevens to the Supreme Court.

George W. Bush ran on a promise to elect judges "in the mold of Scalia and Thomas."

John McCain is currently running on a promise to appoint judges like Alito and Roberts.

Barack Obama Souter, Breyer and Ginsburg as his model Supreme Court Justices.

Editor's note: The title of this blog has been changed out of deference to people who had better never make a spelling or grammatical error on this site again.

Listen up, [new] RedStaters.

I love this website. I've been a part of it for around three years now, and although the quality has intermittently waxed and waned with news cycles, I have more often than not been proud to call myself a member, and associate myself with the content found here. I have always been especially proud that the diary/blog content was generally better than the front-page content on most blogs.

Posted at 10:34am on Dec. 7, 2007 One more round, then it's bottles to the ground.

By Leon H Wolf

Holy cow.

I just feel the need, as a Romney supporter, to remind people that Hugh Hewitt does not, in fact, speak for the Romney campaign, is not on the Romney campaign staff, and Mitt Romney is not to be held accountable for Hugh's behavior. I know that sometimes it's hard, but it's important to evaluate the candidate based on who the candidate is, not based on the behavior of his supporters. I got a lot of material from the campaign itself both before and after the speech, and none of it was half as over-the-top as either of Hugh's post on the matter. Get that? The actual campaign material was a lot more sane. So like I said: don't hold them accountable.

Posted at 2:58am on Nov. 27, 2007 I don't believe Mitt Romney (and I feel fine).

By Leon H Wolf

This diary is in large part a response to this comment by hoosierteacher, so you should probably go to read that first in order to have some context for this discussion.

As I said at the beginning of this journey to Mitt-town, I plan to be an intellectually honest Mitt supporter. Whenever I hear the "he was personally pro-life but publicly pro-choice" argument to explain why Mitt has allegedly had only one flip on life issues, I am reminded rather forcefully of Mario Cuomo. And you know what pro-lifers have always (correctly) called people who take the Cuomo/Kerry position (personally opposed to abortion but don't believe there should be any laws whatsoever against it)? Pro-choice. That's what being pro-choice means, and if it doesn't, then Rudy is pro-life, because after all, he "hates abortion," doesn't he?

Posted at 4:09pm on Nov. 26, 2007 Rudy Lies about Romney's Crime Record

By Leon H Wolf

Perhaps more than any other candidate in the Republican primary, Rudy Giuliani is depending on his ability to convince conservative voters that he is telling the truth on the campaign trail. After all, our willingness to believe that Rudy will really appoint conservative justices is directly dependent on our willingness to ignore his actual judicial nominees while he was in office, and his public pronouncements concerning his support for a number of liberal causes, and his continuing stated belief that Roe v. Wade was correctly decided and that the constitution mandates public funding of abortions, and just trust that he really really is telling the truth now that he's out here on the campaign trail. So Rudy's proclivity for truth-telling in other areas out on the stump would seem to be highly relevant to Republican primary voters.

Posted at 1:21pm on Nov. 7, 2007 A Theological Response to Waterboarding

By Leon H Wolf

I am a little snowed under with work and school and whatnot today, but I wanted to offer a brief response to Joe Carter's post on waterboarding that stirred up a pretty good deal of discussion here at RedState yesterday. Before I begin, let me just say a few things - this is not a thread for you to complain about Carter, or to argue utilitarian justifications for waterboarding. Do not threadjack this diary with either of those topics. Second, this thread does not address whether sufficient process is put in place to ensure that waterboarding is not done unnecessarily - the discussion of whether it is being done in appropriate cases is a discussion for another time and place.

Posted at 10:53am on Oct. 26, 2007 I'm a Republican and Have Been all my Life!!1!

By Leon H Wolf

If I had a nickel for every time I've heard that over the last week, I wouldn't need to win all my office decorations from my fellow RedState Contributors.

Now, Captain Ed made it a point to disagree with me about the base of Paul's support. His anecdotal evidence was based on the behavior of Paul supporters at CLC. Mine was based on my observation of them at three Presidential debates this year, and most especially the Ames straw poll. Let me just tell you a little bit about my experience at Ames, to get an idea of where I'm coming from.

Posted at 10:06am on Oct. 25, 2007 A Brief Administrative Note

By Leon H Wolf

Okay, we (and by "we" I mean the moderators) have had a lot of fun with the whole YouTube thing when it comes to the moRons. But it's time to take our site back for non-Ron Paul purposes. This means not letting moRon diaries overrun legitimate diaries, etc. Effective immediately, pro-Paul diaries and comments from new users will be summarily deleted, no matter how reasonable, crazy, whatever it is that they might be.

Posted at 10:09pm on Oct. 22, 2007 Attention, Ron Paul Supporters (Life is *REALLY* Not Fair).

By Leon H Wolf

Effective immediately, new users may *not* shill for Ron Paul in any way shape, form or fashion. Not in comments, not in diaries, nada. If your account is less than 6 months old, you can talk about something else, you can participate in the other threads and be your zany libertarian self all you want, but you cannot pimp Ron Paul. Those with accounts more than six months old may proceed as normal.

Posted at 4:07pm on Oct. 22, 2007 Mike Huckabee: A Stealth Flip-Flopper

By Leon H Wolf

Cross-posted at: The Red Sox Republican.

I have no idea why Mike Huckabee isn't getting hammered on this worse than Mitt Romney ever did. Huckabee's positions on immigration, as recent as a year ago, have been well documented in various places. It is widely known that, as governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee supported state-subsidized tuition for illegal immigrants (a fascinating proposition, given that, for instance, a resident of southern Missouri could not get in-state tuition at an Arkansas college without proving legal residence in Arkansas for six months). Furthermore, he vociferously opposed a bill that would have required verified identification before voting and denied taxpayer-funded benefits and services to illegal aliens. Furthermore, Mike Huckabee supported President Bush's immigration bill that was decried as "amnesty" by opponents of illegal immigration. But Mike Huckabee went quite a bit beyond aggressively defending government subsidization of illegal immigrants, he openly questioned the Christianity of those who opposed him, and implied that they were racists:

Posted at 6:26pm on Oct. 18, 2007 Invoking Sanger.

By Leon H Wolf

Rudy Giuliani would have you believe that he "personally opposes" abortions, "hates" abortions, and would "do everything he can" to have less abortions. Yet, he says, with an air of faint regret, he thinks that abortion should remain legal, but he'd be fine with appointing judges who went either way on the issue. The reason for this is pretty simple, from a political standpoint: Rudy's way too on-the-record for him to pretend that he's had a conversion on the life issue and have anyone believe it, so in the alternative, he wants people to believe that he's as indifferent to the issue of abortion as possible - so that we will all believe that when it comes time to decide on judicial nominations, he'll leave that to Ted Olsen, et al, and we can all feel good about that. I like Ted Olsen as much as the next guy, but what he's ever done to demonstrate that he's a committed pro-lifer is still a mystery to me, but I digress.

Posted at 3:39pm on Oct. 18, 2007 Disclosure Time

By Leon H Wolf

This is just a brief note to let you all in on a secret that I'm sure some of you suspected already: I am this guy. It was a thin cover, to be sure, but I had my reasons related to certain of my own sensitivities with respect to my past work for the Brownback campaign. In light of today's news, apparently that will no longer be a concern. So now you can all know who I am.

Posted at 10:15am on Aug. 11, 2007 Why It is Assumed that Mitt Romney will Win Today's Straw Poll

By Leon H Wolf

Full Disclosure: Leon Wolf is the E-Campaign Coordinator for the Sam Brownback for President Campaign. He is live-blogging from today's Ames Straw Poll at The Daily Brownbacker. The following is cross-posted from some of the coverage there.

My apologies for not updating last night with pictures of the get-out-the vote rally, but it was late when we got in and we were exhausted from traveling all day. I can say that turnout was much better than we expected, we had a couple of surprise guests, and everyone left feeling positive about what is going to happen today. I will have a post up here in hopefully a little over an hour with pictures and coverage of the event itself.

Posted at 11:09pm on Aug. 9, 2007 Is Fight Club a "Morally Serious" Movie?

By Leon H Wolf

My friend Paul Cella and I have a longstanding disagreement about the moral qualities of the movie Fight Club, and so I thought I would make a go of addressing the issue seriously. The following post contains spoilers, so if you're one of the five people in America who have not yet seen Fight Club, skip this post until you've gone to the video store to remedy your error.
