By lobo

As Rumors abound about McCain's choice for VP, one names keeps popping up. Its Tim Pawlenty. Governor Pawlenty has been a supporter of John McCain from the very beginning. Yet as a sitting Governor of Minnesota, he couldn't help McCain even be competitive in is own state.

With Mitt Romney nearly doubling the number of votes of McCain, one has to wonder how much of an impact will Governor Pawlenty have.

Posted at 4:21pm on Jun. 19, 2008 Like Tax Cuts, Oil Drilling is a winning issue for the GOP

By lobo

When conservatives argue about tax cuts, the liberals always argue that most of the cut go to the rich and the middle class will only get a small cut. However, the middle class always say fine, give my tax cut. Election after election has proved this. It has also proved that it is good for the economy.

This brings me to drilling for Oil argument. Liberals are making the same mistake they have on tax cuts. They tried to argue that drilling will have little effect on prices and it will take ten years to take effect. What Liberals miss understand is that Americans want something done, anything done. They are tired of words, and just like the Tax Cut argument, Oil Drilling is a winning formula for the GOP.

Posted at 2:56pm on May 16, 2008 Flawed Candidate needs a good VP pick.

By lobo

When voters go to the Polls in a general election, they are usually voting against a candidate instead of voting for them. This is even more so this year where each party has selected a candidate that is badly flawed.

For McCain, except for the war on terror, he is at best a moderate and is any many cases more likely to side with democrats than republicans. Examples of this is Immigration, Tax cuts, McCain-Fiengold, and the list goes on. In a normal election cycle this would doom a candidate. This is because the base of the Party (Conservatives) are not as likely to go out of their way to vote for such a candidate let alone donate money for him.

Posted at 7:01am on Apr. 5, 2008 Are Extremist Evangelistic Christian trying to turn me into a Democrat?

By lobo

Extremist Evangelistic Christian seems intent on starting political religious war with Mormons and now has put voters like me in a pickle. I thought we shared the same value system, but I guess I was wrong. It seems that their desire for religious purity is greater than their support for issues we share like pro-life.

I was struggle with my conflict with my desire to defeat the Democratic Party and my opposition to McCain. I was waiting to see who he picked as his running mate to make my final decisions. Now however, with this recent hate filled attack, I find my self at a cross roads.

Posted at 9:31am on Mar. 5, 2008 The next step McCain should make now that its official.

By lobo

Now that John McCain is the last man standing, there are several things that should be done.

First Huckabee and Romney deserve to give prime time speeches.

Huckabee should run for Senate and continue to push the fair tax. Huckabee should also give a pro-life speech. If not a senate seat, then a cabinet position. This way, I could support him.

Romney should give a speech on economics and his health care plan. If we are going to have a health care plan, his is far better than the democrats. He should also speak about defending our borders and illegal immigration.

With all due respect to Huckabee (as little as I can give him), McCain is the nominee. There is no mathematically way for Huckabee to win. His only hope is to take it to the convention, and without Romney, that is not possible. Huckabee is also shooting any chance he had at the Veep spot, not that he had any.

This brings us to the Veep spot. The VP selection is used to strengthen the weakness of the candidate. So, what are McCain’s weaknesses? Well, for one is the economy. Another is talk radio and the conservative activist (see CPAC). McCain has a strong Pro-life record, so that will not be an issue. Besides, where are Pro-life activist going to go. Stay home and let Hillary win? Vote for Hillary? McCain is also going to need a ton of cash to compete with Clinton. McCain also has almost no executive experience. He knows very little about business.

Posted at 8:19pm on Feb. 7, 2008 Senator McCain should Resign!

By lobo

Senator McCain should resign from the Senate. He may want to time it so there is a special election. But if he doesn’t resign, the Democrat Governor will put in a Democrat Senator.

I will follow my candidate’s advice Romney, and hold my nose and vote for McCain, unless he chooses Huckabee. If Huckabee is on the ticket, I will vote for the Democrat, I can only hold my nose so much.

And what the Huck, does Huckabee think he is doing staying in the Race, its impossible to win the nomination at this time. The most he can hope for is a brokered convention, and with Romney backing out, that is pretty much impossible. With Romney's delegates, McCain has 1,000 delegates. Just 191 delegates short, with the uncommitted delegates (Governors and Senators), he now has over 1,191 delegates. Huckabee has only 181 delegates, and there are only 998 delegates left. So even if Huckabee picks up 100% of the delegates, he still can not reach the magic number of 1,191. So it’s over.

Posted at 9:01am on Feb. 7, 2008 Why Romney and Huckabee are still in the Race.

By lobo

Why is Huckabee still in the Race, there is no possibility that he can win the presidency. You need 1,191 delegates to win. Huckabee currently has 187 delegates and there are 998 delegates left. So, even if Huckabee could win all of them, which is pretty much impossible, he would still only end up with 1,185 delegates, leaving him 5 delegates short. Of course, he will not get near this amount. The best he can hope for is about a third of the remaining delegates or 330. This would give him only 517 delegates, well short of the 1,191 delegates needed.

Posted at 1:06pm on Feb. 6, 2008 McCain's Redstate problem

By lobo

Unless either Romney or Huckabee drop out of the race, it is highly unlikely that McCain reaches the delegates he needs to win the nomination. There are just not enough WTA states.

McCain need a minimum of 550 delegates and there are only 998 left. In a three man race, it is unlikely he can get enough delegates to seal the deal.

Lets talk first about what happened last night. McCain won big in big blue states that where winner take all.
There are no more states like that left. Although I suspect that he will take Virgina which is WTA.
So, unless any of the three left drop out, I don't see any one wrapping up the nomination. The remaining
States are strong places for Romney and Huckabee, and looks weaker for McCain. You can expect all of the

Posted at 7:09am on Feb. 5, 2008 How cracked is your Crystal Ball?

By lobo

As the joyful young couple walk around the county fair, they spot an unusual tent. On top of the tent is a sign that says fortunes told. Just for the fun of it all, they decide to walk in. With the election upon them, they sit down and pay the Gypsy price for a fortune. With a toothless smile, she asks the couple what they want to know. They ask who is going to win on Super Tuesday. The gypsy looks puzzled, after all, not many come in to ask about election results. She begins to rub her hands over her crystal ball. All of a sudden the tent begins to shake. The gypsy looks nervous, this has never happened before. The tent begins to fill with mist. The couple figures its just part of her act, but the gypsy knows better.

Posted at 10:51am on Feb. 4, 2008 Likely result after Super Tuesday: McCain = 577 Romney = 429 Huckabee = 270

By lobo

It’s all good and well to be ahead of unspecified national polls. However, it’s the individual states that select the delegates. To make matters worse, each state has some unique rules. Some of these states require advance planning. In particular is West Virginia which has already selected delegates who then vote in the caucus. Other trends and assumption; First, only polls from Rasmussen and Zogby are considered. Second, McCain does better in area’s where there are more moderates and independents. This is particular true of Minnesota where McCain should do very well. Also, McCain does particular well in the North East. Other areas especially in the West trend more toward Romney. At the same time, the Bible belt trend to Huckabee. In caucus states, Romney and Huckabee do well, and McCain has faired fairly badly. To understand how the delegates were distributed, see the rules posted on the bottom of the blog.
