Posted at 2:16pm on Mar. 27, 2008 McCain/Romney trial run?

By mar K

It seems that McCain and Romney will be campaigning together in Utah and Colorado today. Is this a trial run to see if they can work together on the same team? No one will admit it, but I am willing to bet that that is on the minds of all the parties involved, including the spectators. It IS something to think about.

Posted at 5:58am on Mar. 1, 2008 Hillary's phone ad -- a missed opportunity

By mar K

Hillary's new phone ad could have been a real classic. If she had just left the question hanging, "It's 3:00AM. A phone is ringing at the White House. Whom do you want answering it?", it would of been a classic. There was no reason to go on. Everyone is quite aware of Obama's light-weight resume. Everyone is perfectly aware of the need of substance over style. The viewer's mind would have easily filled in the details by themselves. If she had stopped there, there is no way that Obama could have responded effectively.

Posted at 5:11pm on Feb. 11, 2008 The President of the United States.

By mar K

When it comes to voting for the President of the United States, I am:

An American first.
A Conservative second.
A Republican third.

As an American, my primary focus is upon the office itself, and not whether or not I agree with the policies of the President.

The Constitution gives us the following job description: "The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America." (Art 2, Sec 1, Cla 1) The Constitution also gives as part of the job description: to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States".

Posted at 8:01pm on Jan. 26, 2008 Oh, how I miss Fred!

By mar K

Fred lost, but he lost with class. He went down fighting, but he did it with dignity. He didn't lash out at anyone. He didn't scream obscenities. He didn't tell outright lies about his opponents. The man had class.

When Rudy loses in Florida (and barring a miracle, that is what he is going to do), I fully expect him to do the same, be gracious in losing.

Contrast to what McCain is currently up to. It is campaign 2000 all over again. Polls show he is in trouble in Florida. So how does he respond? By angrily and viciously lashing out at Romney.

Posted at 10:33am on Jan. 25, 2008 Rudy is in trouble

By mar K

Rudy was my #2 guy before Fred, and he is back there once again. I am pulling for Giuliani to finish ahead of McCain in Florida. He has to. McCain has taken his lead from him in the big Northeastern 2/5 states. If Rudy is ever to have any hope of getting it back, he has to show he can defeat McCain in Florida.

As such, I was pulling for Rudy during last night's debate, pulling hard. Trailing in the polls, he could not afford an average, or even an above average performance. He had to make a splash.

Posted at 5:26pm on Jan. 21, 2008 Rudy's strategy for Florida

By mar K

Rudy's broadside issued this morning is very interesting. It attacks McCain and McCain alone. There in nothing in it about Romney or any other candidate, just McCain.

It is simple. Rudy has to beat McCain in Florida. Take first place in Florida if he can, but above all else beat McCain.

Rudy's overall strategy has always been to begin his campaign in earnest in Florida and pick up states such as New York and New Jersey on Super-Tuesday. Unfortunately for him the lastest polls from those states show McCain ahead of Giuliani.

By mar K

I was a Reagan supporter in 1976. I watched on TV as Ford pulled out a victory at the convention. I was as heartbroken as the next Reagan supporter.

Then I saw it. The network I was watching zoomed in on a Reagan floor supporter. This candidate, still decked out in Reagan gear, had turned over his "REAGAN" sign and had begun to hand-letter "FORD" on it.

Even the liberal news media took notice. Though the Reagan people were sorely disappointed, the reporters remarked how quickly most of them swung around to supporting Ford. They had fought hard. They had lost. They moved on.

Posted at 3:16pm on Jan. 17, 2008 The race for second in South Carolina

By mar K

In a way the race for South Carolina is really a race for second place. Whoever wins amoung Fred, Huck, and John lives to see another day. But whoever comes in less than second, faces enormous problems if not downright elimination.

George Washington: "We've lost New York. We've lost New Jersey. We are just going to have to accept the fact that they aren't coming back."

Abraham Lincoln: "We've lost the Southern states. We are just going to have to accept the fact that they aren't coming back."

FDR: "We've lost the Hawaiian fleet and the Philippines. We are just going to have to accept the fact that they aren't coming back."

Posted at 7:47pm on Jan. 9, 2008 The Decathlon of 2008?

By mar K

The decathlon is a two-day miniature track meet designed to ascertain the sport's best all-around athlete. Within its competitive rules, each athlete must sprint for 100 meters, long jump, heave a 16-pound shotput, high jump and run 400 meters -- all in that very order -- on the first day. On the second day the athlete runs a 110 meter hurdle race over 42 inch barriers, hurls the discus, pole vaults, tosses a javelin and, at the end of the contest, races over 1500 meters, virtually a mile.

Posted at 3:43pm on Dec. 19, 2007 That was fast. Fred is back to being....well, Fred

By mar K

Check out this story about a campaign stop Fred made in his last ditch effort in Iowa.

Okay, I'm a Romney guy. I fully admit it. But it is a crying shame to see such a waste of great potential that is the Thompson campaign. I truly feel for you die-hard FredHeads. I honestly do. No, that is not a gloat. If Romney goes down, we Mitt-ites can at least comfort ourselves with knowing that he gave it his all. He fought the good fight. He ran the whole race. But he lost. It was not meant to be. End of story.

Posted at 7:34pm on Dec. 18, 2007 Huck the Duck

By mar K

It appear that Huckabee is ducking having to appear on Meet the Press.

Romney and others don't seem to mind facing tough questioning. Huckabee wants to avoid it.

Draw your own conclusions.

Posted at 12:19pm on Dec. 16, 2007 Romney on MTP

By mar K

Got up early (I'm on the West Coast) to watch the show. I loved it, and I am not talking about Romney's performance. I am talking about Tim Russert's.

I loved the format. A solid hour of no-holds-barred grilling. No mealy mouth, answer without answering allowed. Russert was always respectful, but always focused.

This is exactly what we need to see in our Presidential candidates. No Larry King soft balls, no Charlie Rose pleasant conversation. No wasted time sound-bite debates. No canned stump speech. A real roasting and grilling by an intelligent, thoughtful opponent.

Posted at 5:08pm on Nov. 28, 2007 "Gentlemen prefer blondes but marry brunettes"

By mar K

So in Iowa is Huckabee a blonde or a brunette?

His rise has been very fast. Fast growth tends to be shallow growth.

Contrast that with Romney. His numbers have not changed a whole lot since last Summer. Even in the face of Huckabee's recent rise, they have only drooped a few percentage points. So wherever Huckabee is getting his support from, it doesn't seem to be coming much from Romney's base.

Posted at 10:03pm on Nov. 26, 2007 Why I DON'T support Fred Thompson

By mar K

I recently made a post over at Race42008 about how the Democrats' bench was very thin. They had a one term Junior Senator who was riding the coattails of her husband, a first term Senator with little experience in anything, and former Trial Lawyer turned one-term Senator.

The GOP, on the other hand, had the Former Mayor of NYC known for reducing crime, attacking the Mob, and responding to 9/11; the former Governor from Massachussetts who turned their fiscal house around, fought same-sex marriage, rescued the 2002 Olympics, and had been extremely successful for years as a turnaround artist in business; the long-time Senator from Arizona with tons of foriegn policy and milatary experience; and a long-time Governor from Arkansas.

Then I hit a problem.
