We've Got Work To Do Today. But After Tomorrow ...

Liddy Dole would no longer be the NRSC chairman and from here on in we should make it clear that we will no longer tolerate ineptitude being no bar to the continuation of tenure. Traditions that become harmful should be eliminated when necessary; a vote of confidence in the NRSC and NRCC chairmen after one year into their tenure may be something to look in to, not after they have been a disaster in both recruiting and running the campaigns.
We should start hunting for the best replacements for retiring Republican Senators ASAP i.e. Wayne Allard (R-CO) and Primary challengers for inexcusably weak sisters. We should start preparing our best candidates to take out Democrat Senators in Red states i.e. Baucus, Landrien, Pryor, Johnson and Rockefeller. And ... we should find challengers for those who simply deserve a tough race; i.e. Durbin and Harkin. We should be ready to compete for every marginal House district and every single Red district that has a Democrat representing it.
The Directors should (if I may humbly suggest) start a Nominations page where Redstaters can submit the names of local politicians, Republican activists or just plain good people who they think can run for any race, whether local, state or Federal and win it for the GOP and Conservatism and make us even more strongly the Party of Reagan.
We should have a new dedication to establishing a feedback mechanism for our Republican representatives in Congress to let them know when they're doing well or not so well. Today, they still look to the newspapers and hear that when they pass tax cuts, they're being "extremists." When they vote for spending cuts, they're being "heartless." When they oppose racial preferences, they're being "racists." When they insist on curbing illegal immigration, they're being "anti-immigrant." When they vote to ban partial birth abortions, they're being "misogynists." When they agitate for school choice, they're "destroying public education." When they fight to prevent the complete decoupling of marriage from parenthood and child raising, they're being "homophobic."
Make no mistake, the bias, partisanship and partiality shown by the Press in this cycle is just the emerging tip of the iceberg - some are already far too gone that they are nothing more than 527s in everything but name i.e. the New York Times. They've declared war and are so full of themselves they think they can launch missiles at us at will and we lack the courage to even acknowledge it. That we cannot face the American people and declare war right back because they can get the American people to dismiss us as lunatics for pointing out the obvious. We need to prove them wrong.
They need to be challenged and expect to be challenged again and again. They need to learn that every single act of misinformation and bias would be loudly noted and highlighted by the new and official GOP. They need to understand that their credibility is no longer a certain thing, that they can and they will lose it until they learn honesty and fairness. Maybe then we'll see the New York Times hire one Republican for every three reporters they put in their newrooms, as opposed to one for every fifty as they do now.
There was a time when there was nothing we could do. But today we have talk radio, we have the Internet (with video even!) and should we one day have someone big (hint: Dick Cheney) publicly unsheathe the sword against the most egregiously biased of our "objective" Fourth Estate institutions, we'll be able to make sure that they know that following the advice of Left-wing editorial pages in order to win "moderate" accolades is the road to ruin.
The GOP in Ohio was praised to the skies by the Ohio Press the more they abandoned what made them Republicans and as a result, the incompatible mish-mash of Leftist and Conservative policy has led the state into a mess and rendered their Governor the most unpopular Chief Executive in the nation.
The GOP in Florida on the other hand is the subject of constant curses and jeers in that state's Fourth Estate. But Florida's economic growth, crime reduction, education, taxation and employment numbers are the envy of the nation and their legislature and Governor are among the most popular, and the party continues to grow stronger.
Conservatism/Reagan-Republicanism wins each and every single time it is presented in comparison to Leftist-Liberalism. Let us make sure that from now on, that this choice is made clear to the American people each and every single time, the First Tuesday, after the First Monday comes in November.
But that would be for after tomorrow. We've got work to do today.
Vote and get everybody you know out to vote. And vote REPUBLICAN!
well-timed. Looking ahead regardless of the outcome today is important. I DO agree the Directors should be up to something...I hope they are.
We have had great exchanges here in the past, but the smart and reasoned ideas fade down the list as new posts come up.
A sister site or separate tab and an initiative with much of what you suggest is a sound "first step".

We also need to elect people with enough basic courage and the intellect to ignore Beltway "wisdom" and punditry. It's time for a big shake up. That's not to say we shouldn't let our reps and senators know they are with the people on the issuesnyou mentioned; that's a great idea. The preference would be to elect those who aren't so insulated they need the reassurance. Both can be done.
... than the Press.
Thanks for the compliment, by the way.
My personal belief is that most of the people who write the editorials and news reports legislators read and unfortunately take heed of are members of the glitteratti and cocktail circuit. These are people who are remarkably alienated from the average everyday concerns of ordinary people.
Their assumptions about what is rational, popular or (my favorite) "mainstream" is often quite divergent from that of the 9 to 5 guy who is married and trying his best to make certain that he is satisfying his family's needs and getting them at least some of their wants.
I believe this is potentially a major point of strength for the GOP in that the Dextrosphere (Right side of the Blogosphere) just contains a great deal more rational people who are in touch with their communities than the editorial boards of the nation's major newspapers.
Can you say the same about the Left?
All we need to do is to get them to see that and get out of the Beltway more often.
I was thinking along the same lines, and you've said it better than I could have!

You have a point that the media is biased but some of the senators have earned their criticism. Take John Mc Cain comprehensive immigration plan playing Jane Fonda sleeping with the enemy...this is truly pandering to potential voters at the expressed opposition of the citizens. How about Specter and his last minute administrator addendum. Then the good ole boys spin it as the Reid/Kennedy bill as we might forget the stench left by the urine and feces of a rat! I'm tired of the political correctness and the convenient amnesia when it comes to partisan politics. If they earned the contempt of their constituents then let's not spray air freshener to mask their rotting deads.
If Rumsfield offers his resignation to President Bush, then I think Bush should accept it and offer Rick Santorum the job. I just watched Rick give his concession speech, and I have never seen it done with more class. Rick's loss is the worst loss for the country. I hope there is another place in our government for Rick to land.
You’re a persistent cuss, pilgrim.
John Wayne to Jimmy Stewart in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Give Defense to Joementum and put Rick at the helm of the RNC. Nobody is as good as Rick as delivering our message. and nobody fights harder to win. It would be a real indication that the Republicans in Washington "get it" and will turn away from their attempts to govern like Democrats.
to replace the octogenarian JP Stevens.
I have no clue if he is a lawyer or not, but I know it would make for lots of fun watching certain Senate dems sh*t all over themselves.
And he is a conservative we can trust.
Tonight has confirmed to me that Pennsylvania has some pretty stupid people.

With a smaller majority (or worse) we won't stop a fillibuster. Thank you "gang of 14", the next SCOTUS won't have the benefit of a constitutional option.
But I'm with you C17wife. Rick would be great.

Well 2 of the Gang are gone - Chafee and DeWine. McCain (and therefore Graham) will be trying to court the base, so I doubt they'd be in for a renewed "Gang." That leaves Snowe, Collins, and John Warner.
Who knows what exactly the dynamic would be if a SCOTUS nominee got a filibuster threat.
Yes, but with a small majority (and that's still an "if") and Snowe and Collins unreliable more so than Warner, McCain, and Graham), I'm not sure we get the option passed.
If we DO get a good conservative on the bench in the next two years I won't even mind two years of darkness so much.

Cheney resigns to spend more time traveling with his rock star wife and W sticks his middle finger up at Patrick Leahy and appoints Rick to serve out Cheney's final two years as VP.
That means he still presides over the Senate and gets to break all ties. Hmmm...I like that too.

you had me at what the Dems would be doing all over themselves at the mere thought!
