Possibly Crazy Solution For Shelley Sekula-Gibbs and Joe Negron ...

The Democrats got friendly judges to prevent Tom DeLay from withdrawing from the TX-22 race. And another judge ruled that GOP volunteers may not inform voters that votes for Foley would be counted for Joe Negron.

So what about Sky Ads on election day? Or even starting from the 5th all the way up to the 7th? Sky writers and banner towing aircraft writing or carrying "VOTE REPUBLICAN: WRITE IN GIBBS FOR CONGRESS" or "VOTE REPUBLICAN: WRITE IN NEGRON FOR CONGRESS" above the two Congressional Districts' skies would be a win-win.

The information would be out and no law (I think) is broken. And even if the Democrats get a friendly judge to order it stopped, the local and national media would have to cover it, and the Democrats' hopes for winning both these seats on the cheap get knocked a serious blow.

SIDE NOTE:
Interestingly enough, when NJ Democrats wanted to switch Frank Lautengberg for Robert Torrecelli when it became obvious Torrecelli was going to crash and burn against Republican Doug Forrester, despite it clearly being prohibited by law, the New York Times piously lectured us all about giving NJ voters a "true choice."

When TX Republicans tried to do the exact same thing with regard to Tom DeLay's seat, the New York Times became a stickler for the rules even though it arguably was allowed in Texas where it was not in New Jersey. Voters in TX-22 apparently don't deserve a "true choice".

of having dems get to rewrite rules in nearly every election they are in, no matter what, while Republicans are stuck with lying press and crooked judges, makes the victory in 2000 all the more a blessing. We could have a rotten goreon economy, be losing the GWOT, and have a President who would make carter look decisive and effective.

The Judges allowed polling place information that indicates if you vote for the Republican name, you are voting for NEGRON.

It's very simple there.

TX-22 is a whole other matter do to the different laws in Texas
and Federal suit. The Judges said that Delay's name could *not* be replaced if he withdrew, so no name is there. As a result, you
have to write-in "GIBBS" if you want to vote Republican in TX-22.

The First District Court of Appeal ruled that signs can go up saying a vote for Foley is a vote for Negron, if they also say a vote for Mahoney is a vote for Mahoney.

Good call.

DeLay blew it by staying in just long enough and then pulling the plug. He either needed to bail early or stay in through the end. Given how sharp he is, I don't know why he didn't handle this better.

As to the name change thing, the GOP wanted to advertise it in the polling place, but they were limited to doing it 50 feet away or whatever the rule is for where campaign sings need to end.

It's a fair gripe that judges helped cheat in New Jersey a few years ago, but I can't complain about how they handled this case.

To the reasoning that Delay hasn't moved out of the state because he could always move back. It seems the decision hinged on that bit of "logic."

He could have left his name on the ballot, won, and then either moved back or resigned at that time.

I wish he'd left his name on the ballot and won, just to see all the same Dems howling that his name had to stay on screaming that he had to have been ineligible.
