John Ensign To Run Senate Campaign Committee

Amid move after underwhelming move (Boehner and Blunt likely to retain, bypassing Steele for Martinez at RNC, Lamar Alexander for whip), I think the GOP finally got one right here.

I've always been impressed with John Ensign, who came within a whisker of ridding the world of Harry Reid. He's a good senator and a good conservative. He's young and could really try and excite candidates to run--something Elizabeth Dole could not.

Jonathan Weisman reports this at the end of a long article on the Pelosi-Murtha-Hoyer bruhaha. He also indicates that Jon Kyl will replace Rick Santorum as Conference Chairmen. This is shaping up to be a pretty decent team, even with Lamar.

...if he actually has a pulse and a few active brain cells, he'll be an improvement over Dole.

I think Ensign is a good choice. As for Senator Dole, I was never a fan and her beyond embarrassing performance on Meet the Press the Sunday prior to the election sealed the deal for me.

With the exception of Lamar Alexander, the Senate GOP seems to be actually getting its act together.

John Ensign as the head of the NRSC bolsters my hope that we will take the Senate back in 2008.

Okay...I'm glad that Trent Lott is running for Minority Whip. I think he'd be much better than Lamar Alexander. A McConnell/Lott team would be very, very effective, I believe.

Jon Kyl, John Cornyn, and Jim DeMint would probably be my top 3 choices, but Trent Lott would do better than Lamar Alexander.

Where's my checkbook?
