Forget about Giuliani or Romney. Forget about Thompson or McCain. Forget about Huckabee.... Just forget about all of the candidates and answer this one question......

If the Republican primaries came down to two candiates, one being a pure social-conservative (but a fiscal liberal) and the other being a pure fiscal conservative (but a social liberal), who should win out?

Again, we are not talking about anybody in particular. I am just taking this debate to its logical conclusion.

Since its a wide open race, why don't we let the Convention pick the nominee?

It would certainly be good television. Besides, it might even be cheaper.

By Matman

Since joining this board, I have heard people saying that there are three sections of the conservative movement and we need to pick someone who appeals to all three sections.

No we don't.

All we need to do is to pick someone who appeals to us.

I think its dangerous to vote for someone simply because you believe he can unite the party. At the end of the day, the average, rank-and-file, voter in the general election could care less about whether the Repubs or the Dems are united. They are looking for a candidate who can lead the whole country.
