A Hearty Thanks to Barbara Boxer! Really.

No snark. Honest. I really mean it.
A little history. Senator Boxer recently granted a "Certificate of Achievement" to Basim Elkarra, a Muslim activist from Sacramento. Read the follow-up from Newsweek.

Dec. 29, 2006 - In a highly unusual move, Sen. Barbara Boxer of California has rescinded an award to an Islamic activist in her home state because of the man’s connections to a major American Muslim organization that recently has been courted by leading political figures and even the FBI.Boxer’s office confirmed to NEWSWEEK that she has withdrawn a “certificate of accomplishment” to Sacramento activist Basim Elkarra after learning that he serves as an official with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). After directing her staff to look into CAIR, Boxer “expressed concern” about some past statements and actions by the group, as well as assertions by some law enforcement officials that it “gives aid to international terrorist groups,” according to Natalie Ravitz, the senator’s press spokeswoman.
~~snip~~
The move outraged CAIR officials who charged that the liberal Democratic senator was responding to the writings of Joe Kaufman, a blogger who has expressed sympathy for slain Jewish extremist Meir Kahane in the past, and whose columns regularly appear on the Web site of conservative activist David Horowitz. CAIR has formally asked for a meeting with Boxer and demanded that she withdraw the action—which one top CAIR official said smacks of “Islamophobia.”
The CAIR spokesman goes on to intone that we are in danger of going back to the McCartby era.
And this would be a good time to remember that, for all his failings, Joe McCarthy was right.
Thank you Senator Boxer. Words I thought I'd never type.
I've told you never to bring that up :-)

...she should have done her research first! I bet this was all done in the name of political correctness - let's give some certificate to the Muslims! Never mind that the group probably has ties to terrorists.
1. Read the posting rules. The Directors are very rightly (no pun intended) concerned about language. This is a "safe for work", "family" site. We ain't Kos.
2. It's better this way. We've got a rabid lefty loon who's actually figured out that CAIR is, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, not our friends.
It's called "scheudenfeud". Enjoy it.

on details that the Fourth Estate/Fifth Column used to pillory him. He had a serious sauce problem and a certain roguish streak that was not endearing.
To see Barbara take on that Fig Leaf for Terrorism makes my heart glad in that redemption is always possible, even for California female politicians.
Now for Nancy, and to a lesser extent Diane, we're still waiting.
exactly right Dave. Some may label it as Ms. Boxer just doing "the right thing" for the party. Perhaps this will become a trend and they will actually vet someone before they grant an honor to a person or group because it's "the right thing" for the party to do. Then they wouldn't have to do "the right thing" for the party to undo "the right thing" they originally did for the party.
Will she meet with CAIR, and if so will she change her mind?
In the meantime I salute her for doing the right thing. Good for her!

...I wouldn't be surprised if in California, the Muslim vote is larger than just the "American citizen" vote!
No pun intended.
CAIR spokesmen are often trotted out on FOX and others to give the "official Muslim view" on situations that pertain to Muslims.
That she would actually have CAIR looked into gives me hope that folks are wising up.
Its a good sign she did not try to defend the appointment.
The next thing you know she may ask the US Justice Dept. to investigate if the 6 frying imams conspired to disrupt air travel, which is crime.
What would be more amazing is if the Democrats pushed for such an investigation. Then I would literally eat my hat.
...I congratulate you, Sen. Boxer. You did the right thing.

Foxes and henhouses, or something along those lines. It was, of course, several CAIR-connected imams who instigated the “flying imams” fiasco, which appeared to be none other than a test of vigilance and a way to mau mau the airlines and airline passengers. CAIR’s Ibrahim Hooper, who often appears on cable news channels as the face of moderate Islam, has been found in the company of radicals himself.
This is the CAIR that Boxer rejects, and the Bush administration puts in charge of sensitivity training.
Good for Boxer. Bad for the administration. CAIR should be ostracized.

waiting for this. However, if you do it is comforting to know that you will eventually pass out and start breathing again. So, all is not lost.

but he and his administration have been woefully lacking on the prosecution of the GWOT here at home. We've seen major leaks of highly classified programs and documents to the enemy's media outlets with no substantive investigations or prosecutions. We see the entire apparatus of government more concerned about hurting people's feelings than making sure the airways are safe. I've frankly about had it with W.
I would have paid for the receiption if he'd brought the flight crew that tossed the Imams to the White House and given them a Medal of Freedom instead of that idiot Minetta.

Day, and with one voice told Bush what for (ie that we have "had it" with him) and that then Bush and Cheney would resign. I know you "had it" with Clinton too, as I did. Any distinctions in the Mbeck had its? Any concern that we we might contribute to the further emasculation of the ONLY president we have until Jan 2009 save Pelosi, and that even if Bush 43 is not Reagan, Washington, FRD, HST or Lincoln, that he did remove two regimes, freed 50 million, has Iran surrounded, etc. and that he is also not Carter, Clinton or Kerry.
If I didn't know better, I might think you are a cut and runner, 'Beck.
What is the opposite of committed? un-??
Yes, I am in a committed relationship. Patriotic American committed to America and a worthy, if not mbeckian or even DeVine-ian perfect, President. Mute, yes, but carries a big stick.
Had it?
No, I haven't. I'll stay tuned as Iran is surrounded with the Axis of Evil identifier contemplating his legacy. Could we review the last two presidential losers and the last two presidents and maybe re-access this "had it."? See uncommitted Ed re Hero status:

But, if you are bored, and want to fight, let's get ready to rumble!!!!!!
I'll take Bush, CINK liberator and you take....??? a 2008 dream or a total pessimistic bleak dark age upon us future less than 2 vernal equinoxes away.
Mbeck, GC knows of bush's flaws and prays for HST, but your fatalism that essentially equates him with god knows what on the left is quite (I never say quite?) overthetop, undeserved, and mad!
Mbeck, do really hate food, but just eat it so no one else gets to eat it?

The country wasn't at war. I had really low expectations. I've had second thoughts since, but by 2001 I was sick of Billy Boy and the Bimbos, but "had it", no.
Fast forward to 2006. We're really at war. People were really trying to kill my kid. I happen to be a very strong supporter of the "Bush Doctrine" and I support the war in both Afghanistan and Iraq. I've got well documented issues with our rules of engagement, but I support the effort. We are doing the right thing, in the right place, at the right time. And we've got the right people doing the job.
I've about "had it" because I have high expectations with W. That said, even though I've about had it, I've got no options. He's Rex and the Congress is the Congress. And the Press is, well, the enemy. I will continue to support the President because I know too many young Marines in Ramadi. He's the best hope they've got to insure that the job they do, and that some die for, means that they and their children will live in a better, safer world.
And as far as food goes, the non-Marine son is a chef. Unfortuately, he's in Nancy Pelosi's district, but he does come home once in a while. And I'm willing to eat enough to make sure everybody else starves when Ethan cooks. :>)

when, after declaring war on UBL and warning us from the Oval Office of the danger Saddam and wmd and terror was and then saw no follow up except when the world was reminded of knee pads, stains and BJ's (not necessarily in that order. The enemy was at war with us no later than when those two African embassies came down and no less than on 9/11.
The main reason we are at war, and successfully so, is due to the One Man you have had it with. The enemy has wasted precious resources trying to prevent the establishment of a US ally in Iraq that no doubt would have been successfully deployed in Chicago and LA.
Yes, we are at war beacuse bush doesn't say he's had it no matter what the MSM-DEM-LIB party does, even if its all against him for lo these 24/7 assaults for going on 3 years now.
We agree Mbeck, on expectations and complaints. But let me quote Bill Clinton: Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good, even great accomplishments.
and stay tuned
One must know that EVERYTHING Bush does comes after long periods of
MUTE!
hahaha
GC simply chooses to accentuate the positive as is his nature,
BUT
Also, beacuse we have an enemy at home that watches and listens and will use anything to divide us and the country and try and bring about a loss in the war for Bush...
Not understanding Bush is America, incl them to the enemy and to reality.
Besides, being a Christian. We're saved!
Hallelujah
(Please indulge the GC my non-Christian friends and my Christian friends that hate to see Jesus and Paul quoted in polite company lest people think they, ie the more reserved of the faith are a bunch of Jesus freaks. Me and Paul ain't ashamed of the gospel, even the words that Jesus spoke and even if the evil "evangelicals" -read GC and his ilk- dared co-opt them due to non-evangelical non-use!
The gauntlet has been lain.
Blame Mbecker for waking the rooster before Dawn!

And this comes from a man who speaks in such a cryptic fashion his friends refer to him as the riddler.
He is an incredibly poor communicator 90% of the time. He has done a singularly poor job on selling the war to the American people. He has done nothing to manage expectations. Most people have the idea that this war was just about WMD.

Boxer at least has some modicum of concern over how she appears to the rest of the country. She's been pilloried as a deracinated nut-job after her performance in the Condeleeza Rice confirmation hearing. It perhaps sent her a message. It actually does speak well of her that she received and understood that message.
