Attention Rep. Boehner & Rep. Blunt...

The line has been drawn. Senator Reid and Speakerette Pelosi are touting their bipartisan bill that funds the troops. Oh, and surrenders to the terrorists. But what the heck.
The Democrats have their talking points well assembled and being pounded on the news: the agree with General P that the only solution in Iraq is political.
The Republicans are... oh yeah, silent.
Well, here's an example of what you guys should be doing.
And don't apologize next time. The Democrats are selling this country down the river Styx. Stand up and fight.
Here is the full version, including a sad conclusion where Rep. Schmidt calls Murtha "distinguished" and asks that her remarks be withdrawn.
damnation of Dennis Hastert and the entire Republican leadership in the House.

Very Very WELL DONE! Should the need arise I would gladly go help this lady in her re-election next Fall. Even more so than I would go help my homestater Mr. Blunt. If he and Mr. Boehner had this kind of fire the caucus might get somewhere.
a calling up of the militia, when do we march on Washington?

But so help me God if the left takes this an an opportunity to go, I will be there as well.
If there's going to be a big event for the veto I might even go for that, no doubt the loony left will be there making noise.
Well my next son is still slated for boot camp June 5th with no changes so far despite the machinations in DC as far as he knows.
I dunno MB, I have this sense that it's time for a gut check and someone from our party had better stand up and take the lead. If someone doesn't show some backbone soon we're all going to hell and ride is not going to be enjoyable.

You guys (Conservative Congressmen) should ALL be up in their grill. What is the cost? What can they do to you? Censure? What, who cares! The Democrat leadership has decided that it is their policy to abandon the troops, to usurp the President's authority as C-in-C, and made smearing, lying, and backstabbing a way of life.
Are you mad yet? If not, what will it take?
It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?
but abandoning the people we've promised we would be allies and friends with. So what else is new for the Demcrats.
Harry Reid on Iraq: “I say we’ve lost. Let’s bring our boys home in, oh, say 18 months. In the meantime, no more funding for them.”
learned for forty years or so before 1954. Gingrich may have soiled his political career, but he was a visionary and a leader. After the fiascos of DeLay/Hastert, the Republicans are starved for a bit of fire in their bellies. Are there any real Repub leaders in the House?
Or will it be pattycake and backscratching/logrolling just like before?
When taunted by a Liberal in Parliament that he was going to die "on the gallows or of a vicious social disease," Disraeli replied "That depends on whether I embrace your principles or your mistress."
The body of your note appears blank to me.

When I switch to Internet Explorer from Firefox I can see it. Now, I just have to figure out how to keep IE from blowing up. Hmmmmm. I have a new iMac sitting in a box. I think I'll open it up tomorrow.
Thanks for the info.

at both home and work. On my work computer, I have the same problem as you -- but our net-admin guys have all sorts of filters and blockers.
But at home, in firefox, I can see everything.
Not sure what that means for you, Flagstaff, but perhaps some setting is not enabled for you.

Becker,
I agree with you that we have seen little or no passion from Republicand during this debate. The closest thing was Sam Johnson's great speech a few weeks ago.
For such a large issue there should have been a much, much bigger fight. At least that is how I feel.
In the past Democrats have made Republicans pay politically for much smaller issues like say, free school lunches. I would have hoped to see something similar to that on this issue which is do damning to tens of thousands of our troops and millions of Iraqis.
On the other hand, I do not think its quite fair to pin it all on the leadership.
Individual Republicans could have spoken out on this issue themselves. Even Bush's veto threat was monotone and lacked passion - especially when compared to speeches which we have all seen by others (like Reagan in 1964).
Similarly, I know because I live in Roy's district and read the transcript of his speech that it was searing in content and truth.
The catch lie with the fact no one outside of SW Missouri probably even knew about the speech due to how the media decides to spin the issue. Even Schimdt's speech above really didnt garner that much attention.
I guess what I am saying is this - as upset as we are about this issue and the seemingly flat response to it - I believe there is a larger problem at hand. Even if the leadership took a more passionate approach, I dont know if it would get out or make the news.
When media outlets have an agenda and do the cutting and pasting of news clips - do you believe they are going to honestly report the happenings in Congress? I for one am under no illusion that they will.
That is why I am pretty burned out about this stuff right now.
It just seems Democrats can do what ever the heck they want with no public accountability. Period.
But I think you just reinforce my points by noting important things that I ran past.
1. Sam Johnson's speech. It was masterful. And not one Republican has referenced it since he made it. The House leadership, to be kind, has ignored it. I doubt anybody in the Senate heard it. At least you wouldn't know it if they had.
2. POTUS veto threat. Let's face it, leadership really needs to start in the Oval Office. I think POTUS likes the fact that his office is an oval. He can't be cornered. There has been virtually nothing that passes for leadership on hard political issues since I can't remember when. Bush treasures his NewTone™ and frankly, he is a political wimp.
3. Individual Republicans... With no leadership on the issue from the WH, the Senate ML or the House ML how many Members have the balls to stand and fight. Just look at the record. In the House there's Sam Johnson. Duncan Hunter made a comment yesterday. In the Senate there's Graham and McCain. And there is no followup by anybody on any of this.
4. Schmidt's speech. It garnered no attention because the Republican MAJORITY LEADER made her apologize. Hastert should have been kneecapped for that.
The problem is exactly a lack of leadership. There is not one voice from the Republican side of the aisle on critical issues. The real reason the Dems are heard on issues they consider critical is their leadership makes sure everybody is on board with their talking points and they repeat themselves so often the message gets through. That never, ever happens on our side of the aisle. Never. Ever. I could cite examples 'till hell freezes over but I don't think I need to.
Until the party gets it's act together, there won't be a good ending to any issue of importance, the Dems will continue to clean our clock. As much as I'd like to blame it on the media, it's not a media problem. If anything, there was a bigger media gap in the '80's. Reagan overcame that with leadership. We see none of that leadership now.
And on your last point, of course the Democrats can do anything without being held accountable. In the last week two Republican House members resigned committee assignments because they were being investigated by the FBI. No one, at least no Democrat, demanded they do that. Dollar Bill still sits on Homeland Security and Whatshisname from WVA still vets the FBI budget. What have Bohener or Blunt said about that? Thanks for asking, they've said nothing. NOTHING. Hey, wouldn't want to offend anybody...

I cannot argue with two and four right now. Hassert should have never, EVER made schmidt apologize for the comment. It was true. Period, end of discussion.
I can vouch that the leadership did tout Johnson's speech a lot. Trust me, I recieved a lot of spam mail which journalist recieve talking about it.
True, it was not referenced this week, but to say it was not touted just isnt so. The problem goes back to the media refusing to print or repeat opinion which does not fit their template. I think Rush says it best regarding this matter.
Concerning point three, I still believe that individual members of Congress are responsible for themselves.
From my perspective, yeah, there should have been a lot more hell, fire and brimstone speeches yesterday. Should we hold the leadership into account for that? I dont know because to be frank, individuals (say Pence, etc) should be able to articulate with passion items like this without prodding.
Like I said before, I am just burned out on this matter. It is the honest to God number one issue facing this nation. Yet it seems few on our side are willing to fight it in such a manner.
It could very well be that, as with Representitive Blunt's speech, we just are not hearing that much because of a media filter.
Then again, what do I know. I just live here in SW Missouri and run a small business.
In discussing leadership, leaders are supposed to do far more than tout the efforts of rank and file, they are supposed to lead.
These past few months we have seen little of that, in fact it's been distressingly missing. We need leadership to step up to the cameras and microphones every chance they get and start pushing back, on everything.
It's past time to get the talking points worked down to sound bites and start using them.
Any chance of a recall vote and getting some new leadership for our party to see if we can salvage some respect for ourselves in Washington?
