A Better Man Has Never Served...

Promoted by Jeff. This is an example of just why Gen. Pace is the type of man that we need in office in this nation. Here is more information on the Draft Pace effort, including how you can donate to his prospective campaign for US Senate.
I'm talking about Peter Pace.
HT to The Corner, from Old Sarge's News and Stuff...

I wanted to share with you what we saw in Washington DC last week. We toured the Mall and made the usual stops at the WWII Memorial, the Wall, Lincoln Memorial, etc.
At the Vietnam Wall we saw something unbelievable. We noticed three small index cards at the base of the Wall.
I knelt down for a closer look and noticed that a 4-star general's rank was pinned to each card.
The cards were personally addressed and said something like:
These are Yours - not mine!
With Love and Respect,
Your Platoon Leader,
Pete Pace
1 Oct 2007The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs had laid down his rank for his boys who died in Nam.
Oct 1 was the day he stepped down as Chairman.

There's nothing I can add but Semper Fi! General.
I think there's a National Park program to collect tributes left at the wall, I hope this tribute was collected and will be given a place of prominent display.

I'm not sure what the disposition of the tributes is, whether they are held and possibly displayed somewhere or perhaps forwarded to the families.
Hopefully somebody with more knowledge than me will post the answer.

When I was in Washington, my very knowledgable tour guide said that everything was collected in the wee hours of the morning and placed in a warehouse. FWIW.
From the National Park Service website:
"Items are left at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial constantly by many, although not all, of the visitors. They are usually collected by NPS rangers at the site two times per day, once during the day shift and once during the night shift. In bad weather, artifacts are collected more frequently. The artifacts are tagged, given a unique identification number, and placed in museum storage bags. Note that Memorial Day (the last Monday in May) and Veterans' Day (November 11th) tend to be the heaviest days of the year in terms of both visitorship and artifacts left. Independence Day (July 4th), Father's Day (third Sunday in June), and days on which there is a significant event on the Mall are also fairly heavy. Then, the artifacts are stored on the Mall until a staff member brings them to the Museum and Resource Center (MRCE). Almost everything is saved for the collection. The only things that are not saved are active organic items (such as live plant matter) and U.S. National flags, unless the flags have been altered in some way. The unaltered flags are given by the rangers to Veteran's Hospitals, Memorial visitors, or civic groups such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Once at the MRC, the artifacts are identified, researched, and eventually cataloged. When items are cataloged, a detailed description is written of them, and a report is prepared on their condition. Cataloging is done for the security of the collections, and in order to have an easy reference on the collection for exhibits, conservation, and the like."
I thought that was the case, but I wasn't sure.

is explained here.
Beat me to it. General Pace has always displayed class and loyalty. Too bad those virtues are never reciprocated by the political class.
I'm not sure 99 other men and women would deserve to sit in the Senate with a man who realizes that his entire professional career is due to young boys who didn't make it home. And what nearly four decades past he still remembers? Are we as citizens, is America worthy of this man to ask him to serve his country again?
I almost feel guilty asking this man to exmperience the hassles of serving in the senate with all the clowns that are there now. Based on the article linked to above, I would not be surprised if he does out of a sense of duty.
The naive forgive and forget.
The foolish forget but do not forgive.
The wise forgive but do not forget.
Much as he stands head and shoulders above 90+% of them, I like the sound of that ...
Let's hope the VA GOP can make it happen.
Strangely enough ... I think he would most easily clobber whoever it is the Democrats throw up against him.
The chances of that happening though? Nil ...
Let him serve in the Senate first, then we can talk, heh.

"What most people really object to when they object to a free market is that it is so hard for them to shape it to their own will. At the bottom of many criticisms of the market economy is really lack of belief in freedom itself."

When I read this, it felt very weird. Almost like I shouldn't be reading it. Is this not so very personal...but also ..very public?
Anyone else feel this way when reading it?...
In any case, what a incredible American.

the close up pic...I don't know.
But ...just really powerful.

Keep in mind it's only public because that's where the memorial is and he's one of the highest ranking officers in the country.
If he was a Lt. and he did this after he retired, it wouldn't receive the publicity it did but the meaning for that Lt. would still be profound.
It just happens that Peter Pace was raised high in his career, and something tells me if he had never been higher than that lt. or whatever is a similiar rank (I'm no military expert); he would have done the same thing.
That's class. It just so happens as a public figure he couldn't keep his tribute to his fallen friends as private as you or I could.
"WOW" is right.
Jim Tomasik
Because a man of Pace's principle and integrity running for public office would cause this Democrat to vote for a Republican.
If you guys run a man this fine, you deserve the seat.
(take the compliment for what it is, please.)
Gen Pace is one class act
General Pace IS a great man, whose love of country and humility are second to none!
Now in my dream Senate...certainly. But a man this great doesn't belong with those stupid clowns currently keeping the seats warm.
I salute a great General.
I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.
I do think that he belongs in a Senate that includes Coburn and Demint, maybe a coupla others like Cornyn. And the few, the good, these are something to build on.
It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?
Better men Have, indeed, served.
...Just far too few...
Carlos: "What? Were they [Democrats]?"
Seth: "They look like [Democrats]? Is that what they looked like? They were vampires.
"[Democrats] do not explode when sunlight hits them."
I hope that a lot of Iraq veterans run for office in the coming decades. People who have risked their lives for their country, who have prayed to God to keep them and their friends safe, and who realize the necessitiy of standing up to evil are exactly the people we need in office in this country.
