In Praise of Mike Huckabee...

By mbecker908 Posted in Comments (105) / Email this page » / Leave a comment »

At another blog, Mr Ed, one of our favorites, has pledged $250 to the Redstate 3.0 drive if I write a blog supportive of Mike Huckabee.

OK.

Governor Huckabee has more significant management experience in the governmental sector than any of our other candidates. He was Governor of Arkansas for ten years. I honestly don't know that much, other than some specifics which I'll avoid here, about his term in office, but I will cite several things that have been noted by Arkansas residents who post here at Redstate. I have no reason to question their veracity.

The roads improved dramatically under Huck's leadership. He proposed and passed a bond issue that was paid for in large part by fuel taxes on diesel - read interstate trucks - that improved the road system dramatically.

He also improved the educational system, albeit as the result of a court order and a tax increase, that was at or near the bottom of the heap after all those years of Clinton rule. Seems to me I recall that Hillary was sort of the de facto education czar for all those years.

In terms of being able to work in a hostile environment, Huck was a Republican governor in a state where the legislature is 85% Democratic and it only takes 50% to override a veto. That he was able to accomplish anything is something of a miracle.

In the realm of pro-life and pro-family proponents, Governor Huckabee is second to no candidate.

At the bottom line, the question is: Is Mike Huckabee qualified to be President?

It's a question that each of us must answer based on our personal values and our estimation of not only what we think should be done, but who is best able to do it. I personally have not endorsed a candidate, and I won't here. I will say that Governor Huckabee is an attractive candidate for a variety of reasons and is worthy of the consideration of every Republican this spring.

If he is the eventual nominee, I will vote for him.

Nicely done, mbecker! I'll journey to the link to fulfill my end of the bargain after I hit "Reply to This".

Since you are a licensed Baptist minister, I was expecting a response similar to a story which I heard and used to open a sermon I once preached. No, I'm not a licensed minister, but have been a church leader who has had to fill in on occasion.

Here's the story:

Two notorious, wicked, vile brothers had terrorized a small midwestern town for years. No one dared confront them -- even the authorities -- out of pure fear.

One day, one of the brothers died. The surviving brother wanted to plan a big funeral for his deceased sibling but couldn't find a minister willing to officiate at the service. This lack of interest among the clergy wasn't due to fear, but rather, the unusual request of the surviving brother.

The request? The minister must say at the service that the deceased brother was a "saint." None of the town's clergy was willing to sacrifice their honor and integrity by doing so.

Until one humble clergyman finally raised his hand a volunteered to officiate and agreed to the terms.

On the day of the service, the entire town showed up at the funeral...not out of respect for the deceased, but to see if the minister would sacrifice his integrity by calling the dead brother a "saint."

When the minister stood to speak, he said, "We all know that the deceased was a vile, putrid, wicked, shameful, sinful wretch of a man. But....compared to his, brother....!!!"

Wow, if you'd do this for $250, what would you do for a cool $1,000? A pro-Ron Paul editorial? (Just kidding, of course.)

Hang all traitors and secessionists! Hang them high!

it would be expensive if you were not kidding. I don't think I could have written a blog this good praising Huckabee - though now that Mike has done it, I see nothing to disagree with - but even I could write something praising Paul. For Mike it would be easy. He has frequently said that he has a lot of sympathy for Paul's positions on many issues.

I'm wondering how quickly a Hillary campaigner could get you onto their squad for a donation to Redstate.

I kid (somewhat), but I have to hand it to you: I don't think, after looking at his record, that I could have banged out something like this. My hat is off to you for being a true master of accentuating the positive when needed. Vote for the ulti-Mitt conservative. Romney '08!

shower for as long as needed.

Go Huck!

Maybe Christian voters should take a look at Huckabee's campaign manager.

Evangelical Christian Mike Huckabee hired a foul-mouthed campaign manager to run his campaign. I don't think that knowledge will go over too well in evangelical circles.

God knows it wasn't his head =)

I won't vote for Huckabee . . . and I doubt many Mormons will either. Huckabee's "Don't Mormons believe Jesus and Satan are brothers?" comment and subsequent innocent apology just made him the king of smooth Mormon bashing to the loads of Evangelical pastors--yes, those same ones that drove him to victory in Iowa.

It was NOT innocent. Judge for yourself:

Before you say Huck (or any other GOP nominee) would be fine without the LDS vote because Utah and Idaho are as Red as Red can be, let me remind you of the 300,000 LDS in Florida that Bush would have lost without in 2000, and the 60000 LDS in Ohio that made sure Kerry wasn't our POTUS either.

If you ever find that you only have an hour to live, spend it with a liberal and it will seem like a year."-Rush Limbaugh

On the basis of nothing other than my gift for prophecy -- Mike Huckabee is the Clinton Machine stooge.

When Bill Clinton left the governorship of Arkansas, Dick Morris was the campaign advisor for a failed Senate candidate and former Baptist preacher from Bill's home town by the name of Mike Huckabee. Pastor Huckabee, a persuasive orator with a fat guy likeability was elected Lt. Governor. Later when Governor, and Clinton business partner, Jim Guy Tucker, former associate with The Rose Firm, went to prison for fraud related to Whitewater Pastor Huckabee became Governor Huckabee.

Dick Morris ran the Huckabee campaign when he was still openly part of the Clinton circle. Mike Huckabee is the candidate Hillary wants to run against. Huckabee is being helped by unseen forces allright -- but it isn't the man above -- it is that woman beneath contempt.

Like happened to Jim Gilchrist in the last couple of days?

Yea, I thought Gilchrist might jump off the Huck bandwagon. Apparently not. He's launched a 12 city Michigan tour to promote Huck's illegal immigration plan.

Mr. Ed
Straight from the Horse's Mouth

Who among us would have predicted any of the following 6 months ago:

Pat Robertson endorsing Rudy
Gilchrist endorsing Huck
Huck being a front runner
Romney winning neither Iowa nor NH
McCain surging despite the immigration issue

Gilchrist's tour is really rather sad. I heard him on the radio the other day. Both he, and Huckabee got lit up by one caller after another. Each call questioned Gilchrist about Huckabee's horrible illegal immigration record. Gilchrist acknowledged Huck's past failings, but claimed they were moot, because Huckabee's, past amnesty like positions failed to get enacted.

...a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right...

---Thomas Paine---

I feel dirty just for recommending, but it is for a good cause.

It just seems too strange not to be true about Huckabee. I think that the Clintons would love to run against him, because they know that they can beat him.

I am sure that any dirty laundry he has the Clintons know about.

I for one will not vote for Mike Hukabee.

Of why when my more die-hard associates claim conservatives have no sense of humor I can tell them why they are wrong. Good luck with the fundraising!

Over the years, I have found that Becker and I share many of the same values and insights. We often react in much the same manner to those of lesser light. As such, I feel compelled to offer additional praise for Governor Huckabee.

I agree that the ten long years that Huck occupied the Dualwide, fully furnished, Arkansas Governor's Mansion were productive years for Huck. In fact, he came to consider it as his own. Evidently.

Further, paving the Interstate system in Arkansas was not only a feather in his hat but a boon travelers seeking to transit the state as quickly as possible.

By requiring a literacy test for most school teachers was a huge improvement over the Bill Clinton regime whose primary qualification test for student teachers was a rather subjective interview with Bill himself.

While it is true that Hillary was also involved in education, her major contribution was in the State Parks division where she instituted areas for quite self contemplation and assisted suicides.

Huck's ability to work with a Democrat controlled legislature was due in no small part to the fact that most of the Dems had no idea what the "R" stood for behind his name and they certainly saw little with which to disagree in his legislative agenda.

As to his qualifications to be President, I think as a former Arkansas governor, he shares a demonstrable track record on which we can base our expectations and will bring a UHaul trailer full of furniture to replace that which left with the last Arkie to hold that office.

If Huck is the nominee, I will vote for him while holding a gun to Becker's temple as encouragement for him to keep his word.

Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.

Praise by any other name would smell....

1. It was a TripleWide. It WAS the Governor's Mansion, after all.
2. If you're pointing a gun at me, it better be a long gun and you better be looking at my cute face through a high powered scope. My security retinue will make you into puppy treats otherwise.
