New Yorkers aka Liberals on Rudy

This video (posted yesterday by The Seminal, an “independent media viewpoint outside of partisan politics and corporate control”) captures your day to day New Yorker sharing their honest opinion on Rudy Giuliani. Initially I was interested...unfortunately, as usual, listening to the voices of most New Yorkers puts me in a foul mood. Keep in mind I myself grew up in a suburb of the Big Apple and have been privy to their extremist rants on several occasions.

Watching this clip reminds me exactly why Giuliani has liberal tendencies... in a place like New York City, you must.

Even worse was the substance of their “insight.” I don’t expect everyone to have a working knowledge of national or local politics, but people who have little to no argument only a disliking of anything "Republican" -- and then arrogantly act like their opinion is fact -- really drive me crazy.

The clip starts out decent but gets progressively hard to listen to:

"No compromise with the main purpose, no peace till victory, no pact with unrepentant wrong." - Winston Churchill

Anyone that tries to still claim that Rudy wasn't great for New York is really at the height of propaganda.

Always tell the truth, George; it's the easiest thing to remember.

awesome -- let me know when and if its ever published. I stand by my comments. Watch the clip, its proof.

Why is it out of bounds for people to make fun of people with Southern accents on this site or make sweeping stereotypes, but this is OK?

"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I'm very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." - Bill Shankly

The author is not merely making a light-hearted characterization--at which everyone can chuckle--but rather a repeated insinuation which is first, demonstrably false and second, reinforces negative perception about conservatives among the targets of her distaste.

soli Deo gloria

Anyone who has grown up around or in NYC would agree that it is a liberal enviornment. Just like they call the West Coast the Left Coast... NYC is equally as blue. I can make political assertions about states -- look at the name of your current url. Okay nuff said.

The fact is that New York is generally a liberal place and we all know that. Also, if you are not from New York, those accents ARE killer. This isn't to say there aren't conservatives in New York, even conservatives with annoying voices or without for that matter. But this clip goes to show that the average person on the street has no real reason for why they do or do not like Giuliani (or any other for that matter).

Also, I'll make fun of all accents. I'm equal opportunity. And feel free to make fun of mine if you think I have one. Puh-lease.

"Count it the greatest sin to prefer life to honor, and for the sake of living lose what makes life worth living."
-Decimus Juvenal

Tennesseans AKA Dummies talk about Thompson? Since, you know, I'm from a place where far more people have college degrees.

I mean, you can even tell how dumb they are by how slow they talk. God that accent is grating if you're not from there.

"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I'm very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." - Bill Shankly

I wouldn't mind at all if she had said, "Many NYers are liberal", which is quite easy to prove.

It is the blanket stereotype which touches a very raw nerve among many non-urbanites, which I fear, if not nipped in the bud by those who should know better (assuming they hold that since conservatism is a system whose benefits are both propositionally defensible and empirically demonstrable, a prime goal of its advocates should be to directly engage its opponents, even if it means--gasp--living where they live...and all that), will continue to hamper "the movement".

I'm not talking about intelligence -- I’m talking about political views... you’re the one who just equated liberal and dumb

Stereotyping making a poor substitution for argument.

If the consensus among 17 typical people-on-the-street, including 2 clearly protesting something-or-other, each representing several hundred thousand votes, is anti-Giuliani, please answer me this:

How did he get elected Mayor for two terms?

soli Deo gloria

When he became mayor, you wouldn't ever ride the subway or walk around the financial district late at night.

Almost immediately, NYC became the safest large city in America. It's almost ridiculous to go to places like Washington and realize how much better things are, crime-wise, in NY.

I infer that I have a New York accent from the fact that everyone else sounds like they have an accent to me. You're perfectly free to say whatever you like about my accent. Of course if you don't like it, please accept my cordial invitation to eat [excrement] and die.

"No compromise with the main purpose, no peace till victory, no pact with unrepentant wrong." - Winston Churchill

I can't get enough of Italian girls from Staten Island or Bay Ridge. They look good, cook good, and their accent gives them character lacking in the Midwesternization of much of the rest of the country. I go to Alabama and they sound like they are from South Jersey(they sound southern, trust me, I got family in Birmingham and I can't tell the difference except for key Philly phrases like "you can't get a wooder ice at an Iggles game , go get a hoagie!"

Accents are cool, I can't say I don't make fun at times. But Southerners have a Rep. just like the rest.

That's my favorite part about the Northeast is that if you travel 50 miles, the accents change. In Brooklyn, go 20 blocks depending on your direction and you'll pass right through a whole different version of the English language.

This is frustrating. I didnt mention a thing about accents. Forgive me for using the word "voice" -- replace it with "words" or "thoughts"

I thought that was clear when I mentioned being privy to their extremist rants.

"listening to the voices of most New Yorkers puts me in a foul mood" - This isn't about accents?

"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I'm very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." - Bill Shankly

think outside the box ...

As you said above, "Watch the clip, it's proof."*

You seem to be missing the point: no one disagrees that NY is a hard-talking town with our own share of radical expression. But it could have a direct impact on both this election and the future of conservatism if you extend that banal thought to a blanket condemnation of places where there are more true conservatives per square mile than many others in this land.

Please, narrow your brush width a bit, and be more willing to look for friends where you've got 'em, and to find ways to persuade non-friendlies in the process.

You seem to be missing the point --

"no one disagrees that NY is a hard-talking town with our own share of radical expression."

This WAS the main point of my blog -- I think you were hoping to find something else so much so
that you saw something that just wasnt there.

one: the video is bias

two: its bias because there are more liberals in NYC than conservatives

three: I dont miss living near NYC for this reason

BLAM -- that was it...

be done with it

May I ask one--possibly final--question then, in order to ferret out your main point, which I seem incapable of grasping?

Will the fact that "there are more liberals in NYC than conservatives" not only make you feel better about living in a different place, but also influence your decision, if it became a possibility, to vote for or against Rudy Giuliani in particular?

soli Deo gloria

Just a blam.

The Fuzzy Puppy of the VRWC. I've been usurped!

I dont see what the relevance of that question is? Or how it would help you understand my point...

I mean, you are always free to express yourself in your own way, but I'm just saying that BLAM has a connotation here at RS.

I take it from the context that any word like BOOM, BLAM, WHAMMO, BAM, BIP (to sum up -- any word used in the personal combat portions of the old Batman show) would probably do?

Stare decisis is fo' suckas -- Feddie

Ill choose more carefully...I knew that sounded familiar... BAM maybe BOOM next time. Look for it :)

And Rudy was able to turn around a city packed with people like the ones in the vid clip. THAT in itself is the story.
