Posted at 12:48am on Jan. 15, 2008 Michigan Predictions

By MikeKS

As a FredHead, I have been following South Carolina much closer than Michigan. Also, Michigan is very hard to predict given the role independents and Democrats could play. That said, I'm going to take a shot at it, and encourage others to as well:

1. McCain, 37%
2. Romney, 34%
3. Huckabee, 11%
4. Thompson, 7%
5. Guiliani, 6%
6. Paul, 4%
7. Hunter, 1%

Posted at 8:33pm on Jan. 13, 2008 Romney, Rudy collapse in new poll from CBS/NYT

By MikeKS

John McCain 33% (7%)
Mike Huckabee 18% (21%)
Rudy Giuliani 10% (22%)
Mitt Romney 8% (16%)
Fred Thompson 8% (7%)
Ron Paul 5% (4%)
Undecided 13% (14%)

As you can see, both Rudy and Romnney have had their support collapse while McCain has shot up and Fred has remain steady. Huck is clinging on (his support dropped by 3%) while Fred remains steady.

This is why Fred is far from dead and South Carolina is so pivotal. If Fred wins South Carolina, he becomes the conservative candidate, sucks up Romney's 8% and could get a lot of Huckabee's support and the undecided. Then it's on to Florida.

Posted at 7:49pm on Jan. 13, 2008 Fred's Path to the Nomination

By MikeKS

I've seen a few posts on here by well meaning Mitt supporters saying that they question whether Fred can win and is viable. My contention is that he is as viable as anyone, at this stage.

First of all, if you look at Rasmussen, Fred is at 12, only two behind Romney, who is at 14 and has fallen 5 points in 2 days. Rudy is at 10. McCain is at 24 and Huck is at 19, clinging on to a national perception that he is the Christian candidate but not exatly surging. Fred's support has been steady in the 11-13 range for a while, and Fred stands to benefit from a further Romney collapse.

Posted at 10:52pm on Dec. 20, 2007 Romney appointed liberal judges in Massachusetts

By MikeKS

http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2005/07/25/romney_jurist_picks...

From 2005, the heart of his governorship, Romney's appointments tilted left.

Yet conservatives are lining up behind this guy? His one power to move Mass to the right a bit and he didn't.

And we're to trust him?

UPDATE. Some of the troubling parts of the article for those claiming below "oh it's just Massachusetts".

Posted at 3:26pm on Dec. 17, 2007 Why National Review's Endorsement of Romney over Thompson is a Mistake

By MikeKS

I wrote this on Blogs for Fred Thompson on Thursday:

-----------------

I am a frequent reader of National Review Online, particularly the Corner. I'm probably what many consider to be a junkie on both politics and policy. The National Review has many talented writers, intellectuals, and people with a good sense of politics as well. Though certainly not all alike in their views, I admire their consistent convervatism and willingness to stand up on principle when standing up on principle was called for.

Posted at 4:48am on Nov. 14, 2007 Fred Thompson: The Candidate of Substance

By MikeKS

I come to you not as a long time follower of Fred Thompson, but as someone who has really only followed him since March or April when there was the first discussion about him running. After doing some research and listening to him these past many months, I am not a certified Fred-Head, and that status has not wavered at all in recent weeks in the midst of the bogus media storm about him not having the fire or the energy.

Posted at 8:18pm on Oct. 24, 2007 Don't quite get the criticism of Fred...

By MikeKS

I have read a lot of pieces lately about people "bailing on Fred." It dissapoints me because it is like these good folks are only reading media reports and not truly paying attention to what Fred is doing on the trail. I've been following him daily since June and he's had practically daily events, whether they be public or private fundraisers. He was in both Florida and South Carolina this week, where he still has a couple more days. He's been in Iowa 3 or 4 times, along with Georgia, Wyoming, and Colorado, among others. Some of his events aren't as public, such as a fundraiser in my backyard here in Kansas.
