Pelosi May Give Jefferson a Lesser Committee Assignment

Tuesday, December 12, 2006; Page A06House Democratic leaders, who have vowed to run a more ethical Congress, are struggling with how to respond to the reelection of Rep. William J. Jefferson, the Louisiana Democrat whose Washington home freezer once held $90,000 in alleged bribe money.
Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), poised to be the next speaker, stripped Jefferson of his seat on the influential Ways and Means Committee in June and has hinted that she may place him on no committee when the 110th Congress convenes next month. But a source close to Pelosi said yesterday that she is more likely to place him on a lower-profile committee and hope the controversy dies down.
Pelosi will decide after consulting with colleagues in coming days, said the source, who would speak about the matter only on background.
At a guess, it looks like a trial balloon is being floated; do folks care enough about Jefferson* to raise a stink about him getting anything, or can he have any sop to his pride?

I don't care what John Fund says - on this topic; the rest of the article is quite good - there's no way that our presumptive new Speaker Pelosi would be insane, stupid and/or politically tone-deaf enough to try it, or even seriously contemplate it.
Right? I mean, she knows that we're out there, waiting: she knows that she's already on Strike Two (Murtha being Strike One, and Hastings/Reyes being a pop-up that fouled into the bleachers); and she knows that she's in the Fishbowl. And surely she hasn't made the neophyte error of believing her own side's propoganda...

Surely you won't hold a little petty bribery, some minor graft, and appropriating military search and rescue teams to cover up same against this giant of legislative talent?
