Nothing personal, Ed Morrissey...

...and this isn't going to end with a snark: there is nothing personal about this. I read your blog every day. But we're not making a mistake by tossing the Ronulans.
Your own commenter Scott has the right of it, with the added observation that RedState is a community blog, and our collective opinion is that we don't actually want the typical online Ron Paul supporter in either our community, or for that matter, the GOP. They don't respect private property, they don't actually listen when you talk to them, they drop bizarre (at best) to vile (at worst) conspiracy theories at the drop of a hat, and their rhetoric is uncannily like that of your standard BDS-suffering moonbat*. The ones that have lasted six months already got grandfathered in, and the ones who can maintain will be added on an ad-hoc basis; the rest can write all the bitter screeds that they like. Somewhere else. And we'll take our chances on whether this alienates enough people to matter.
We always appreciate your opinion, which I know was kindly meant. But we're the ones who have to moderate comments here. So nothing personal, but we're going to keep doing this.
Moe
*Believe me, we're familiar with the breed. They enjoy coming onto the site (often as many times as they can) to tell us how meaningless we are. Alanis Morrisette's flawed definition of "irony" casts a long shadow.

of dealing with the Ronulans. Witness
"Instead of dealing quietly with trolls,"
it's their community, of course, and they set the rules. However, this doesn't hurt Paul's credibility as much as it does Redstate's. While Paul's supporters tend towards the annoying and repetitive, they have less impact because we can easily engage them and counter their arguments. Banning them simply for their support for a candidate seems more like an admission that Redstate lacks that ability.
Dealing quietly with Ronulans is just an excuse for them to find 11 on the volume knob. As to their being repetitively annoying you need some form of large number notation to describe it. While he is correct that their arguments are easily engaged they are not refuted just repeated ad nauseum.

RS management sprays and sprays, and they keep coming and coming, and the site keeps getting criticized, so people keep looking to see what the fuss is about, and they see the Full Ronzoni act up close...
IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!
Looks like the hit count is really good lately!
I searched in vain for a "neutral zone" joke. Regardless, Moe you are correct. You couldn't be more correct, unless you were to add that this is not a Ron Paul free zone.
Ed Morrissey would be happy to interview him? Huzzah, but will he let him post there? I have no doubt Ron Paul would be given the opportunity here. How is that a Paul-free zone?
Hand-wringers always cringe the most when direct confrontations occur. The Ronulans made their own bed and now they'll just have to lie in it.
Redstaters value the site's reputation for a level of discourse and quality of content that should not be surrendered to a false sense of egalitarianism gained by indulging hundreds of repetitive intruders who do not hold that reputation in similar regard.
I say, well done Redstate!

That's what the mods are trying to create here by banning the Paulestinians.

It would be great if RedState management would offer RP a chance to post here and get him to actually respond to questions about and critiques of his ideas. Of course they would have to block ALL new membership requests for a few days before and after to prevent it being just a flood of Ronulans....
Socialism doesn't work. It looks nice on paper, but it's been tried and it's failed miserably every time (usually accompanied by widespread death and suffering).

I totally agree with this ban. The idea that we are censoring against a canditate we do not like is a complete misread. We are banning Pauliots, the people that actually make Paul look good by comparison :)
This has nothing to do with politics, it is about maintaining the tenor of the site. The Paulbots are trying to infest the site and ruin it. The people that run this site have the right to keep Redstate, well, Redstate. We members do not enjoy these drive-by Paulbot attacks that fill the place up with wasted bandwidth and ruin our discussions.
Molon Labe!
I imagine that Ed hasn't had to deal with a full on Paulunatic swarm. Paul's online posse are the most annoying and shrill people on the web. They have BDS++ and whine like code pink liberals. I have never been able to have a cordial discussion with any of them. They know they are right and aren't afraid to embarass themselves.
Good riddance. If Captain Ed wants to blog about the truther candidate, he is welcome to the Paulies. He'll get sick of it real fast.
Blogs 4 Conservatives is keeping conservatism alive in the 21st century and beyond!
Whether the Ronulans are lefties in disguise or not, a common tactic of both, NOT exhibited by those of us on the right, is flooding a righty site with so much noise and nastiness that they render it unusable. I've seen it over and over and the only thing preventing that here is the control maintained by the moderators. Good folks go elsewhere when a site devolves into lunacy. I'm glad RS will not allow that to happen.
I hate to say it but the fringe on our side is alive (though not well).

Sort of like how Brigham Young's followers thought of Utah in the mid 1800s. Sort of.

I noticed that the new users of the policy find their posts replaced by embedded videos of badgers, mushrooms and Buffy bunnies.
Don't these videos eat up a lot of bandwidth? Whenever I see a Myspace page with multiple embedded videos the page almost becomes impossible to navigate. Is that on account of the embedded video or the fact that most Myspace layouts are designed by idiots who don't know what they are doing?
Guess whose bandwidth gets used?

Wasting bandwidth is a phrase used quite often as an insult, along the lines of "wasting oxygen".
You don't think people actually worry about running out of oxygen do you?

There are still folk out there on 56k connections who's computer performance gets killed by sites with video and tons of images.
Ask the folk that run Redstate if the price of bandwidth is negligible.
I run 14 websites in my professional life, and I'll tell you two things. One: I don't have to worry about wasting my bandwidth, as in how much is used by people accessing our server each month. Two: How long something takes to download for the negligible number of 56k connections out there wasn't really the issue.
Also, whether there are or are not people who worry about their bandwidth usage does not in any way alter the fact that wasting bandwidth is a common insult along the lines of wasting oxygen.
Also, coming here with "bandwidth, eh? what about videos?? Huh? What about that mr. smarty pants??" is not a very good attempt at a gotcha.

Redstate is a very conservative site, yes, socially, but also fiscally, and one that would probably be open to much of what Paul has to say. Instead, Redstate has to ban Paulites because it heard the "fascist" line one too many times. Not very smart.
Considering guys like mbecker and I have *voted* Libertarian in the past, becker even having voted for RON PAUL himself, their failure to reach us truly IS their failure, not ours.
