...so she sent out Steny Hoyer to be the punching bag for a change:

House Defeats FISA Extension
By Daniel W. Reilly

(The Politico) House Democrats were unable to hold together their caucus on a key intelligence vote on Wednesday, as a coalition of Republicans, Blue Dog Democrats and liberals helped defeat a measure to extend the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act as the deadline approaches.

The measure, which failed 191 to 229, would have extended the bill an additional three weeks to work out differences with the Senate on the issue of granting immunity to telecom companies which aided the federal government in wiretapping.

Rep. Hoyer - who had to be the fall guy for this one - almost doesn't deserve this grief: he was the only Democrat that I voted for in 2004, in fact. But I bear up under his humiliation almost as if it really didn't affect me at all. Which is probably more than Hoyer can say. You do have to wonder if he wonders whether this job is really worth it...

So, anyway, will a proper version of FISA pass this week? Well, check out this quote:

"We have a situation where our members have to understand we have very limited options," said House Intelligence Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes (D-Texas).

Can I just assume that all y'all are smart enough to figure out the answer?

They are really getting good at this! :>

Maybe she's getting rested & ready for the challenge by Cindy Sheehan, once Cindy gets back from making a fool of herself in Egypt.

...without taking up the Senate bill. Apparently the current stop gap measure expires at midnight Saturday....
