By Mr. Ed

Did Huckabee Actually Win?

Writing for the American Prospect, Sarah Posner made the bold comment that Gov. Mike Huckabee had won the "civil war" in the Religious Right.

Grassroots evangelical organizations are fleeing the "old guard" leadership who backed Giuliani and Romney in the presidential primaries. In the chaos of the evangelical movement, Mike Huckabee is forming a new political entity that will probably emerge in the next week or so to replace older groups that have so discredited themselves.

Posted at 6:08pm on Apr. 5, 2008 The Second Amendment Vs. Property Rights

By Mr. Ed

Last Saturday I attended my first Texas Republican Party State Senatorial District Convention as a delegate. Among other things, we briefly debated and voted on a number of propositions to send to the state convention in June.

One particular proposition, which enjoyed significant support in our district convention, dealt with drafting legislation enabling those with concealed handgun permits to bring and keep their handguns in their cars at their place of employment.

Posted at 12:26am on Mar. 5, 2008 Tonight I Caucused Over Tortilla Chips at The Blue Iguana. Literally.

By Mr. Ed

Earlier today when I voted in my precinct, I was told the precinct Democratic caucus would be held at the same location this evening at 7:15 and the GOP precinct convention would begin at 8 pm...again, in the same location as the room where primary ballots were cast.

So, I decided to participate in my first GOP precinct convention. I arrived at the polling place at 7:45 pm to find a line of about ten people outside the door. They told me they were there for the Democratic caucus and had not made it through the line yet to register for the caucus.

Posted at 8:26pm on Mar. 3, 2008 Obama's Mitt-March/Gore-Internet Moment

By Mr. Ed

I stumbled across this email today. It may be "old news" around RedState, though I haven't seen it.

By Paul R.Hollrah
Tuning in to C-Span recently, I found myself listening to a speech by Senator Barrack Obama, Jr. He was standing in the pulpit of a black church in Selma, Alabama.

Posted at 12:25am on Feb. 20, 2008 Obama Beats Clinton. McCain Beats Obama. Clinton Beats McCain.

By Mr. Ed

Obama Beats Clinton.

Barring a major collapse in the Obama campaign, he will win the Democratic nomination for president. He will win Texas by five points; he will squeak out a win in Ohio by a point or two. It will be over on March 4 for the Democrats and all the talk of superdelegates and seating Michigan/Florida delegates will be moot and forgotten.

McCain Beats Obama.

Obamania will subside, though it may be July or August before we start feeling it. He will try to fill his empty eloquence and will succeed to some extent. International affairs in Pakistan, Iran and the Middle East will work in McCain's favor. Bush-hatred will start to wane as people begin to look toward the next presidency and this phenomena will help McCain. The race will be close but McCain will win the electoral college. I'm not sure he'll win the popular vote.

Posted at 12:26pm on Feb. 11, 2008 Rasmussen: Huck's Picking Up Most of Mitt's Supporters

By Mr. Ed

Disclaimer: I fully recognize Huck's chances for the nomination are virtually nil. I also am fully aware that the national polls have little impact on state primaries and/or delegate accumulation.

Nonetheless, it's interesting to note the polling trends post-Mitt-Campaign Suspension.

Posted at 3:05pm on Feb. 9, 2008 Huck & Chuck Bloopers

By Mr. Ed

http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Blogs.View&Blog_id=1411

Even for those of who who despise Huck, this is some wholesome weekend humor.

Even mbecker, zuiko and joliphant should get a "Chuck-le" out of these. "Huck," even Franz might crack a smile.

There...I think that's atleast 25 words.

Posted at 11:31am on Feb. 9, 2008 Newsweek: McCain 51%, Huck 32%

By Mr. Ed

http://www.newsweek.com/id/109495

Yes, this information is relatively meaningless as to its impact on the ultimate GOP nominee.

However, it does demonstrate that McCain still has a lot of work to do. A third of the GOP would rather support a super long shot that voice support for McCain.

When forced to choose between McCain and Huck, Huck's support rises to 37%.

Many here at RedState have argued there isn't a lot of difference between McCain and Huck (though I disagree). If this is true, it makes the bump in support for Huckabee even more interesting.

Posted at 11:04pm on Feb. 7, 2008 With Perfect Timing (Ugh!), Dobson Finally Endorses.....Huck

By Mr. Ed

Rev. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, will announce tomorrow his personal endorsement for Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Rev. Dobson, all I can say is, "Way to stick your neck out!"

Your sense of political timing is amazing. Is there a moment in this race in which your endorsement could have had any LESS impact?

Just wondering.

Posted at 6:49pm on Feb. 5, 2008 Mitt's Best Strategy is for Huck to STAY in the race.

By Mr. Ed

You read this correctly.

Conventional wisdom is that Huck's withdrawal will result in his supporters flocking to Mitt's camp.

Not true.

A recent Gallup survey showed Huck's supporters favoring McCain by two to one over Mitt. Therefore, sans Huck, McCain would sweep most of the remaining primaries.

Ironic, isn't it, that Huck staying in the game helps McCain AND allows Romney to stay in the game.

Posted at 4:10pm on Feb. 5, 2008 Huck's the Goose. Mitt's the Gander.

By Mr. Ed

Mike Huckabee has won the WV convention primary and the 18 delegates it had to offer.

He won it on the second ballot when the vast majority of McCain and Ron Paul voters moved to the Huckabee camp to put him above the 50% threshold for victory.

Already, Mitt supporters, pundits and bloggers are crying "dirty politics" on McCain's part for denying Mitt the victory.

In WV, it came down to a two-man race. That's the strategy both parties have been trying to craft for several weeks. It's happened in the Democratic race.

Posted at 5:07pm on Jan. 17, 2008 More Tax Talk from Huck.

By Mr. Ed

Frank Pastore at TownHall recently challenged Governor Huckabee to "Win Our Minds" and convince GOP voters he was a conservative. Governor Huckabee responded today to all of Pastore's questions, which you can read here:

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/MikeHuckabee/2008/01/17/governor_huck...

However, Huck's response to the Pastore's tax question is particularly interesting. He asked Huck what short to mid term actions he'd take while trying to implement the longer term, Fair Tax approach. Here's Huck's reply, which includes some new stuff which RedState readers should appreciate:

Posted at 8:35am on Jan. 15, 2008 Guess Which Conservative Said This?

By Mr. Ed

"To me conservative governance means following the "original intent" of the Founding Fathers, it means recognizing that Jefferson won the debate with Hamilton, and that we want very strong, energetic, innovative states, with government both as limited as possible and as close to the people as possible. The states should not usurp functions that can be handled locally, and the federal government should not usurp functions that can be handled by the states. An important part of being a conservative President for me would be strengthening federalism. Conservative governance also means an emphasis on personal responsibility and letting the free market function unencumbered, so that Americans have tremendous opportunity, but not a guaranteed outcome. It means smaller, more efficient government; lower government spending; lower taxes. It means keeping the government out of our lives and letting families keep as much of the money they earn and make as many of their own decisions as possible. It means allowing younger workers to have personal Social Security accounts. It means getting entitlements under control.

Posted at 12:22am on Jan. 14, 2008 Joint Chiefs Chair: Close Gitmo

By Mr. Ed

Personally, I'm not sure what to think of this.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080113/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/guantanamo_joint_c...

The story indicates President Bush and Defense Secretary Gates have also spoken publicly about closing Gitmo.

I'm hearing conflicting reports as to what the legal status of detainees would be if they were to be transferred to Ft. Leavenworth. Some say recent court decisions have determined their legal status would remain as it was/is in Cuba. Others say such a transfer would give the detainees legal rights they do not now have. Yet others say their legal status is still being considered by the courts.

Posted at 8:32pm on Jan. 12, 2008 Huck's New Liberal Stance on Illegal Immigration

By Mr. Ed

This week Huckabee stated on a national television show that he is changing his illegal immigration stand once again...and it is one conservatives absolutely cannot support.

This video clip is taken from Huck's official website.

http://www.mikehuckabee.com/index.cfm?FuseAction=Blogs.View&Blog_id=1160

I'm sorry. I cannot support a candidate not willing to use a pneumatic tube system to deport illegal immigrants.
