Tonight I Caucused Over Tortilla Chips at The Blue Iguana. Literally.

Earlier today when I voted in my precinct, I was told the precinct Democratic caucus would be held at the same location this evening at 7:15 and the GOP precinct convention would begin at 8 pm...again, in the same location as the room where primary ballots were cast.

So, I decided to participate in my first GOP precinct convention. I arrived at the polling place at 7:45 pm to find a line of about ten people outside the door. They told me they were there for the Democratic caucus and had not made it through the line yet to register for the caucus.

As I waited outside in the rather cold (for the Houston area) night air, a few of my GOP colleagues began to arrive. Soon, the line shortened and I made it to the door of the polling place. Then I found out no Republicans would be allowed inside during the Democratic caucus. They proceeded to shut the door and lock it, leaving about a dozen Republicans shivering in the cold.

As we waited outside, one of my GOP colleagues introduced himself as a GWB appointee during his first term. He said his work brought him before the then McCain-chaired Senate Commerce Committee, where he often testified. He indicated Chairman McCain was often rude and simply mean to most who came before his committee. In contrast, Senator Diane Feinstein was usually gracious and cordial.

In any case, at 8:10 pm the Democrats still wouldn't let us in the room so we could begin our precinct convention. The Democrats were now nearly an hour late and a few began to leave, cursing the chaos which was apparently ensuing inside.

Finally, our precinct chair suggested we all walk across the street to the The Blue Iguana, a popular Tex-Mex restaurant in town and convene our convention in the warmth of the establishment. We all agreed this was a fine idea!

So we did. There were 12 of us there to fill 16 delegate slots to our state senatorial district convention at the end of March. Needless to say, we were all elected.

We noticed there were some "hanging chips" but we decided not to pursue a re-count. Instead, we just ate them.

I wish I was there jeesh it actually sounds like you had a pretty good night. Of course something like that would sound like fun to me. Oh and one final thing, however cold it was there, it was a lot warmer than up here in New York State.

So just curious what was the vote? Was it in the 60% to 30% range or did Huck do better? I know you were faithful to Huck to the end.

...which I guess is more accurately described as a "precinct convention." We elected delegates to the state senatorial district convention then voted on five resolutions proposed by a couple who attended. Three were passed and will be taken to the district convention.

I was expecting to vote on Huckabee delegates, or perhaps even become one myself, but I guess only the Democrats were actually voting for presidential delegates in their caucuses.

I mean, eating the chips and all! Stay true to your principles and I will endeavor to do the same!

I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.
