My first political video

This is my first attempt at a political video. I was rummaging around my Applications folder and found I had iMovie HD, so I figured I'd give it a whirl.

iMovie is one of Apple's own apps, so that won't help you. :-)
On Unix you'll want Cinelerra for video editing I guess. On the Mac I'm also looking at Hyperengine-AV.

Images were found on the Internet with Firefox, then had their backgrounds clipped out with Gimp. The song was downloaded with bittorrent-curses and used unmodified.

Nice Neil! But the comments scrolled by too fast. If I hadn't heard Geraldine's comments repeatedly on Rush, I would have missed the gist of it. At my age... I need slower scrolling.

If you could slow the Geraldine quote to the same speed as the Susan Rice quote (which I could read quite easily) it would be great!

but it would also be more fun to watch if you changed the pictures of Hillary/Obama dancing in between the quotes. Each one could come with a different 'dance' picture.
But cute. I like it.

I don't think I could have though. I had to wade through about ten pages of Obama pictures to find that one, the first useful one for Caramelldansen I saw.

i dont *get* it (even after the link), but the animation made me laugh. and the point about mccain spending more time in a north vietnamese prison than obama's spent in washington ought to go in some mass market campaign ads. let that saturate the american consciousness and thats a mortal blow for obama in my mind.
Good job! I had a problem keeping up with the scroll as well. Also, I think if you open with Redstate, you should close with Redstate. Maybe even the website rather than just Redstate. www.redstate.com Just a thought.

I wasn't aware of the meme, so I was a little confused until I read the link.
I think it would have been better if there were either more quote content, if the Hillary and Barack figures did other stuff, or if the video only lasted for a portion of the song.
It kind of stretched on a bit with little change in between the segments.
Great idea, and great execution though for a first video. I look forward to your next one! We need more creatives doing this sort of stuff.
1) Great concept
2) Over-reliance on the two dancing figures
3) Dancing figures not synchronized to beat
4) Content too repetitive for length
You repeat the theme of the dancing Obama and Hillary and rely on that too much. You need more content for the length of the video. Overuse of the same images gets boring. Every 15 seconds in a video like this should bring a new sequence that reinforces the original theme, and it should close with a reprise of the original theme. Finally the beat of the music should be better synchronized with the motions of the figures as well as the text elements. You picked a song that was very, very tough to synchronize with.
But as a first attempt this is much better than most. Wait until I get started, we'll have a good competition. :)
The master of creating the genre is still Eric Blumrich at Bushflash. Google him and look at some of his videos.
Clearly one key to this sort of thing is having a good source of raw materials to work with. I was hindered by lacking good images of the main characters.
Anyone have any ideas for solving that problem?
