Just another reason Red State is so great

Cuss-o-meter

According to the Cuss-o-meter, 0.2% of Red State pages contain cussing. "This is 98% less than other websites who took this test," it says. My own site came up with 0.1%. The average is said to be 9%.

Good for us, good for us. I think that figure shows two things: it shows we try to be more educated in how we write, and it shows we try to be less angry in how we write. So many people will just spew out foulmouthed rants when they get agitated, and they all have to calm down before they post here.

Good for us.

A definite sign of class and good solid moderation.

when you began cussing, you were showing you had run out of vocabulary.
I may disagree with some things here, but the no-cussing rule isn't one of them.

I will occasionally let profanity fly, although, if it's in something I write (which I would edit before posting here), I tend to largely use it to summarize opposing viewpoints... using said axiom in a rather sneaky way, in fact.

Kos: "Around 13.7% of the pages on your website contain cussing. This is 52% MORE than other websites who took this test."

I'm rounding 68.5 up, here.

Here ya go.

The Blog-O-Cuss Meter - Do you cuss a lot in your blog or website?

In politics, you have your word and your friends; go back on either and you're dead. (Rule #11 of the public policy process)

I occasionally let slip one of the low throw-weight ones, and I've resolved to minimize even my use of those words. I would personally like to see the Blogosphere stop using the word: "pimp" or "pimping" in reference to anything other than prostitution. Being someone's pimp or being employed by a pimp are two of the worst things I can imagine happening to a human being in this world as they commonly do. It's a travesty that we throw that term around so casually.

Has anyone who uses that word in connection with mundanaties ever met and talked with a street prostitute about what really goes on in their lives, in a clinical mental health setting? If you had, you wouldn't throw the word around so casually, because it's gruesome.

In every other way, though, RedState's iron-fisted "no profanity" policy has definitely had a beneficial effect on my writing and thinking. I'm embarrassed that I ever questioned it.

This is $%#*&^% great! I've never understood why some %(*&^%#@%^&$*s feel the need to inject profanity into every other %$#@&*^ sentence.

In all seriousness, though, there is certainly something to be said for the lack of profanity here. It provides a nice respite from the rest of the internet, which would seem to be comprised almost entirely of pornography and advertisements.

what the rates would be, both here and at those lefty sites, if you could take out the comments added by users who were banned within 2 hours of joining?

I'd venture a guess that the score for Kos would change little if any, and RedState's would go down noticeably.

about a subject it used to be I would cuss up a storm.....now because of the "rehabilitation" of this wonderful site I actually think through my anger and while my words will get jumbled :-0 I do not find the need to express myself with profanity. GOOD JOB guys in teaching an old dog new tricks!!!

Cussing like a sailor is a thing I wish I'd never started. I tell my boys that once you start, it's %$##@ing impossible to stop.

I have enjoyed not only the clean language, but the virtually flame free environment here as well.

Too bad so many other sites allow unlimited bashing of anyone with an opinion averse to the norm of the group.

Thanks RS!

And I say that as someone who has to restrain my language quite a lot.

FWIW, my blog came up at 0.6%, mostly because I don't take a hard-line attitude in my own comments section.

....we often discuss current events and usually end up trying to decide where the heck the liberals are coming from (which of course is useless). I began trying to explain to her about blogs and the difference in "right-winged blogs" and "left-winged blogs"... I believe we were discussing something on Huffington Post. Anyway, for a woman who has never turned on a computer, it was difficult to talk to her about blogs.
So, I got my lap top out and showed her RedState and even posted a little something to show her what a blog was and let her see where I do most of my discussing. Then, I showed her Huffington Post. The point was to say "grandma every day we try and figure out the libs, and this is all you need to know...clearly they cannot be figured out as you can see from their writings they have a sad and skewed fundamental vision of what life is."-You can't figure that out.
There is a vast difference on the two different sites. One has fairly intelligent, calm, well-articulated conversation. The other has a lot of ugly, vile crap. Honestly, I tried to visit some of those sites just to keep up with what was going on on the other side, but I can't stomach to read it for more than a few second.
My grandmother by the way was "very ashamed" of the folks on the OTHER SIDE ;)

I just posted with the word D*&n as in D*&n the terrorists. Please forgive me for pushing the meter the wrong way.
