Rain, Rain Go Away

The other day the Northeast got the Sampler Platter from Old Man Winter. There was snow, ice, slush, and rain all in about a 14 hour period. As I drove to work, I heard regular traffic and weather updates. That was typical. Then the little slices of life from commuters on how they are dealing with the weather were broadcast. What a bunch of whiners.

I hate driving in the rain. It is, however, a fact of life. Our citizenry has gotten so used to the government handling things, as a whole, it has become soft. I half expected to hear a quote from some blow-hard pol about how the rising tides must be stopped, or we will all be damned.

Even when government fails so greatly, as in Katrina, our populous expects to be protected from everything. While hurricanes are at the extreme end of the weather wheel, we whine over wet washouts like rain days. More and more, people want to be coddled. I won't be surprised, if there is some proposal for a protective dome to cover cities. It would be a metropolitan condom to prevent us all from getting wet. Maybe some James Bondesque villain will create a weather machine and hold the world hostage.

No matter, what we mere mortals try and do, we can't beat nature. Ironically, the Greenies want government to promote nature by controlling our lives.

The sky’s blue, water's wet, and big government doesn't work.

-Heroes don't die, they live within us.
