...from halfway around the world...
You can always count on people that make poor decisions. Sooner or later they do something seemingly innocuous that really is a window into their soul.
Presidential candidates have always worked hard to protect their children from being pulled into the campaign by an all to eager media. This has only gotten worse as the years have come, and the general public's never ending appetite for the unusual means reporters will always jump at the opportunity to report something out of the ordinary.

Posted at 8:35am on Jun. 27, 2008 A Year At RedState
By NightTwister
It's hard to believe it's been a year now since I signed on at RedState. It's been a great ride. We've gone through a tough Presidential Primary campaign. Most of us here didn't end up with our preferred candidate. The good news is, we ended up with one with great character and conviction who loves his Country.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the Directors and Contributors. RedState is the great place that it is because of each and every one of you. I'm always challenged to improve the quality of what I write because of the standard that you set.

The Rocky Mountain news recently interviewed Ralph Nadar. The linked article contains excerpts including questions to Nadar about Barack Obama.
It's really hard not to just paste the entire article, because there isn't anything Nadar said that isn't good. I just love to see liberals eat their own, especially when Nadar is involved, and most especially when he points out someone's lies and hypocrisy.

Barack Obama gave a speech in Las Vegas today entitled "A Serious Energy Policy for Our Future". In the speech he talks about how the government has wasted effort in new technology and how it's not being used by oil companies. He blames previous administrations and legislatures for $4 per gallon gasoline. What stood out in the speech, however, was this quote:

When I was a kid I liked to read old Popular Science magazines. A house that my parents purchased had a finished basement (very rare in the SF Bay Area). The previous owner left all of his old PS magazines inside the built-in benches. I spent many, many hours down there reading about scientific breakthroughs in the 1950s and 1960s. I still enjoy reading them today, even though the editors often have a significant liberal slant to their worldview.
The July, 2008 edition is no exception. The title of this month's magazine is:
ECO-TROPOLIS
A Blueprint For Fresh Air + Pristine Water + Cheap Energy

AFP reports that an Ottawan twelve-year-old girl sued her father to have her parental punishment overturned. She was grounded from attending a school function because she was found chatting on sites on the internet that her father had blocked, and posting inappropriate pictures of herself online using a friend's computer.

By NightTwister
One of the great things about living in Colorado is that we understand the need to protect ourselves and others. We still have a Wild, Wild West Law (you can carry a gun strapped to your hip anywhere in public [except government buildings]), and a Make My Day Law (you can shoot someone with impunity that comes into your home without permisssion).
Obama would like to take these freedoms from us. His reasoning is that it will protect us, when in fact it will do just the opposite. Great Britian is a good example of why we should not follow their lead.

Posted at 2:05pm on Jun. 15, 2008 CO Senate: Bob Schaffer smeared by Denver Post
By NightTwister
Back in April, Denver Post reporter Michael Riley wrote three articles attempting to smear Senate candidate Bob Schaffer by trying to link him to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff. This was related to a fact-finding trip that Schaffer made to the Northern Marianna Islands (CNMI) in 1999 to look into allegations of sweatshop working conditions and forced abortions.
The blog Schaffer vs. Udall has several articles related to this controversy that has been stirred up by the liberal media.
Disclaimer: I am listed as a contributor to Schaffer vs. Udall even though I haven't authored any articles there. I will be contributing in the near future.

By NightTwister
The Republican primary race for U.S. House, District 6 from Colorado is to replace Tom Tancredo who is not running for reelection. There are four candidates running for this seat, two of which are Mike Coffman and Wil Armstrong. This seat is safely in Republican hands, so whoever wins the Primary will be going to Washington. Both Coffman and Armstrong are solid conservatives, which makes supporting one over the other a difficult task.

Posted at 8:56pm on Jun. 6, 2008 "Stunning Rebuke for State Leaders"
By NightTwister
This was the title today of an article at the Rocky Mountain News. Denver District Court Judge Christina Habas ruled that collecting an additional $117,838,000.00 in property taxes this year compared to last year amounted to a tax increase.
For those of you that are unaware, Colorado has a Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) law that requires a vote of the people for any tax increase. Our new Democrat Governor, Bill Ritter pushed SB07-199 through without a corresponding vote of the people. This was a mill levy freeze intended to stop the loss of revenue due to a dip in the state economy. The TABOR law requires that taxes be at a fixed percentage of the State's GDP. When it goes down, taxes go down. When it goes up, taxes go up (with a fixed upper limit).

Posted at 10:01pm on Jun. 5, 2008 The 2008 Presidential Election: It's About Life
By NightTwister
November 2008 brings the eighth opportunity in my lifetime to vote for the leader of my country. Of the previous seven, only one was more important than the one before us. That was the 1980 election when the voters threw out the President that had caused more long-term damage than any before him.
As most of you are aware, John McCain was not my first choice to be the Republican candidate for President. He was actually my fourth choice. But I always felt that as soon as the primaries were over (for both parties) that I would get behind the Republican nominee. The reason I am doing this is because I believe this is the most important Presidential election in my lifetime.

I had a good time covering the Republican Convention in Broomfield, Colorado. Bloggers were given press credentials this time, so I was there with other Rocky Mountain Alliance v2.0 bloggers, Ben from Mount Virtus and El Presidente from Slapstick Politics. We live-blogged part of the festivites at The Minority Report. Video of the major speeches can be found at Slapstick Politics.

Posted at 1:42pm on May 23, 2008 Tornadoes Hit Northern Colorado
By NightTwister
Northern Colorado was devastated by tornadoes yesterday. One of the hardest hit areas was the town of Windsor, which is only five miles southeast of where I work in Fort Collins.
Tornadoes are not that common in this area, but they do happen. A very good friend of my wife and former co-worker of mine lives in the area that was hit very hard. The house next door was completely destroyed. 9 News Colorado has some video and a slide show of the tornadoes & the aftermath. The damage of our friend's house is shown in these pictures of her neighborhood.

United States Senate candidates Bob Schaffer(R) and Bob Udall(D) have begun their advertising campaigns this past week. Bob Schaffer's television commercial started with a thud. The Denver Post reports on the commercial. In the advertisement there is a picture of a mountain in the background.

The image was supposed to be Pike's Peak (bottom), but instead they had an image of Mount McKinley (top). The ad was pulled quickly, but several media outlets have already picked up on the gaff, giving negative coverage to Schaffer's campaign.
