Sen Tim Johnson

I just saw that Sen. Tim Johnson (D, SD) has returned to the senate after recovering from a severe brain injury. First of all, I want to be gracious in saying I'm happy for his recovery. Now that he's back, I'm guessing it'll take all of about 10 minutes at the water cooler to get him caught up on all of the accomplishments of the congress since he's been away...

Johnson: "So... have we started redeployment?"

Reid: "Ummm yeah, Tim... about that..."

Johnson: "Well, that was always risky. Did we at least set some hard benchmarks?"

Reid: "Ahh..."

Johnson: "Oh, I get it. We were working on our domestic agenda. So FISA and USA PATRIOT are repealed, right?"

Reid: "Tim, the thing is...."

Johnson: "Don't tell me I've been the most productive member of our caucus lately!"

I voted Harry Browne in 2000, but will never vote Ron Paul.

Johnson: "Don't tell me I've been the most productive member of our caucus lately!"

It's simply true. At least he hasn't done anything counterproductive, like the rest of his caucus.

I'm glad to hear senator Johnson has recovered. But the second he votes again or makes his voice heard in the senate is the exact moment that I'll start wishing he enjoys his recovery with his family, unencumbered by the stress of political office.

Obviously I forgot to use the preview and failed to notice the quote didn't end where it should (after the first sentence).

You can be gone for months and not miss a thing...

...when they see me they'll say, "There goes Loren Wallace,
the greatest thing to ever climb into a race car."

Johnson: "Well, the PEOPLE love us, though, right? I mean, we're fighting Bush with the people's mandate. And Bush's approval ratings hover around 35%. That's rock-bottom, ya know."

Reid: "Well, hmmm.....how do I put this.....that's not exactly rock-bottom...."

It's war -- so when can we start shooting back at the enemy Democrats?

Because, really, the man's not in the best of health as it is.

as evidenced by, uh, er, ummm....never mind.

...are getting that much needed minimum wage hike, right Madam Speaker?

Madam Speaker: Yes. (grrrrr)

We would also like to know your advice for somebody like my daughter, who's going to graduate in two years, advice that you would give a young person.

Sen. Johnson still has to face the voters in the next election in ruby red South Dakota. We need an aggressive candidate with a light touch in order to push Sen. Johnson into recovering from his stroke FULL TIME.

Come on Gov. Rounds. You can do it.

That the sort of Democrats who get put in play are Democrats like Senator Johnson. Yes, let's beat him (though I'm not sure we can), but in a perfect world, we could knock off a Sen. Boxer or a Sen. Kerry instead.

But he isn't going to do it. He was at Johnson's welcome back ceremony and basically already said he would only run if Johnson would retire. My guess is he respects Johnson enough not to want to run against him. If Rounds was going to run he would of done it already.
