From the Club For Growth...

Chances for the biggest upset of the year rose yesterday in Maryland where GOP Senate candidate Michael Steele gained the endorsements of six prominent black Democratic Party leaders in the state's most vote-rich Democratic county.

Before the endorsement Steele was an average of just 5 points behind in the last three public polls. He now may have the credentials he needs to make big gains among black voters who comprise about one-quarter of the electorate statewide. This is a huge coup for Steele. If he wins, he would become one of just two black Senators.

"'The [Democratic] Party acts as though when they want our opinion, they'll give it to us. It's not going to be like that anymore,' said Wayne Curry, the former Prince Georges County Executive," according to The Washington Times. "Mr. Curry and the lawmakers said Democratic leaders repeatedly have snubbed the black community and their county, noting the lack of party support for the Senate campaign of former [NAACP] chief Kweisi Mfume, who lost the Democratic primary to Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin."

Samuel Dean, another Democrat who serves on the county council, said "We cannot continue to be in the [Democratic Party] room but not allowed to come to the table. What we are doing now is saying, 'Forget it. We are not going to wait for you to bring us to the table. We are going to not only get to the table, we are going to take it.'"

Lt. Gov. Michael Steele has solid economic conservative instincts and now has a great chance to make a stunning GOP breakthrough with black voters and shock both Maryland and national Democrats in this open seat race. Wouldn't that be great!

Mike is running against Rep. Ben Cardin, who scored a pathetic 3 in the 2005 Club for Growth rating of Congress.

Senator George Allen -- Virginia

The news is not as good just to the south of Maryland where Sen. Allen is now narrowly trailing in several recent public opinion polls.

Among the incumbents with the hotly contested races, Sen. Allen has the best record, earning an "84" rating on the Club's 2005 scorecard, solidly above average. Allen authored or co-authored the most recent bills to ban taxes on the Internet and to authorize a line-item veto statute. He supported all the Bush tax cuts and their extensions.

Allen led the fight for free political speech this year. When the House passed legislation designed to gag nonprofit groups like the Club, Allen organized a letter to Majority Leader Bill Frist threatening to filibuster the bill if it got to the Senate floor. Despite pressure from the Senate and House Republican leadership, Allen never wavered. The seven Republicans who ultimately signed the letter effectively killed the bill.

His opponent, Democrat James Webb, supports rolling back the Bush tax cuts, opposes school choice, and is against personal accounts for Social Security.

The fight for control of the Senate could come down to this race, so please support Sen. Allen's campaign with a generous donation.

Adrian Smith -- Nebraska

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) today started a viciously negative TV ad campaign against Adrian.

Adrian's opponent opposes all the Bush tax cuts.

State Senator Adrian Smith is considered one of the legislature's strongest supporters of limited government and earned top ratings from an anti-tax hike group.

Let's be sure Adrian has the money he needs to fight off the DCCC smears by making a donation to his campaign today.

It is amazing to me that in America today it is still true that any allegation agaisnt a Republican is true, and any proof offered agasint a democrat is largely ignored.
Webb has gotten a very free ride. He has betrayed his party, is betraying the soldiers in this war, has betrayed his own principals. Where once he properly disdained clinton, now he pals around with him. If a Republican, as in this case or in Nevada, is falsely accused of something, why it must be true. Allen has shown a pattern in Webb of strange sex, misogyny, etc. In a Republican those allegations would be the end ot campaign. Now they are art.
I think the polls are bunk. I think the pollsters are not getting good info. I think Allen is going to win this one, and from the slime attacks he has suffered, no one deserves it, or has worked harder for that victory.
