UPDATE per Little Green Footballs: As of 5/19/08 at 3:11 PM, Daily Kos deleted the image, which we copied earlier and which remains posted below, but the diary post remains. Sorry Kos Kids, no do-overs on the internet.
Those grown-ups at Daily Kos are always willing to have a debate on the merits.
I'm from West Virginia and Senator Byrd is too.
Now that he's endorsed Senator Obama, the right wing will once again paint Byrd as a flipflopping former klansman.
Michelle Obama is an outspoken black woman who they're portraying an unpatriotic liberal "elitist".
That'd be enough strikes against her that no Repub would ever vote for her.
In Tennessee they've laid into Ms. O with a viciousness reminiscent of the half truths used before the 2000 presidential election, when essentially the same clan spread leaflets and push-polled a story that John McCain fathered a black baby.
Psst! Michelle Obama has had twice as many black babies!
Can this type of campaigning work again?
Only time will tell. The reason they're reverting to the same old tactics is not just because John McCain is a very weak candidate (and he's a Republican), but primarily because these tricks worked in the past.
They've already proven that they'd try virtually anything to stay in control.
If it's true that a picture's worth a thousand words, then here's hoping that my photoplay will be thought-provoking enough to inoculate viewing voters against the G.O.P.'s new improved "Southern Strategy".
So you guys want to hide their history of racism instead of dealing with it straight up as Senator Byrd has.
Take a closer look at the image.
The words "Hight Tech Lynching" were used in the Clarence Thomas hearings, tru enough. If you don't think their new Southern Strategy is repeating lies on Youtube, then you probably approved of Strom Thurmond's strategy of dealing with is racist and mysogonystic past.
I wonder if Byrd confirmed that the image is historically accurate.

There was a particular sub-genre which "condemned" the slave trade and slavery. Condemned being in scare quotes because the authors were downright obsessive in their description of the various punishments and indignities visited upon the invariably female, invariably young, and invariably pretty slaves involved. All to inform, of course.
That picture reeks of the same, somewhat sickeningly slavering attention to detail; I hope to God that's just the fault of the original artist.

because the pic is so vile. This is why it MUST be recommended and seen! They are saying this about all of us. I know it is not every liberal or Koz Kid, but this type of stuff has been used against us effectively for a long time. This is not political, it is hatred. It reminds me of some of the cartoons about Jews in pre war Germany.
