Roy Blunt on "Pelosi One."

In case you have not heard, Nancy Pelosi is trying to take advantage of her position and force the military to provide her with a 50 passenger plane which would be about the size of a Boeing 757.

To give you an idea the past Speaker of the House, Dennis Hassert, flew in a much smaller plane. MUCH smaller (think Gulf Stream or commuter jet).

Is this another example of Democrats sneaking lobbyist and earmarks without the public knowing? Could be.

Congressman Roy Blunt properly asks for the reasoning behind Speaker Pelosi's request for a 50 passenger plane. He notes that those seats could very well be used as perks to contributors or whomever. He has a point. Why else would she need such a large plane with that number of seats. Let me guess The children, right?

I would note that I am shocked that the media actually covered the event - and that Pelosi is wrong about flying from one part of the country to her "home" district. If she was in dire need to get from San Fransisco to Washington, D.C. securely and in a fast ammount of time the air force would find a way.

For those of you who still do not believe Pelosi and Democrats are obessed with power I would ask you to think again.

Sweetie Pie's network.

I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100 percent.

Pelosi doesn't intend to completely dismantle the military.

to fully equip a 757 with Este' Lauder air freshener, and the "Clapper"....

I really can't stand that old bat!

What's more expensive is the requirement to have a plastic surgeon and support and equipment on board so her facelifts can be touched up during each trip.

the wind drag caused by all the flab under her wings?...ICK!

ARGH!..how did we let it come to this?..

Rumor is that Pres. Bush will issue his first pardon, to Lisa Nowak. She will be reassigned to position of Captain in the flight crew of Speaker Pelosi's transport " Depends 1 "

Hillary! can use it, too.

This sounds like a 'gimme' 'gimme' moment that undoubtedly impresses her supporters ("You go get what the good ole boys get, girl!") and disgusts the rest of us.

Is there no end to the disgust that politicians can provide the rest of us? Context: we're in the middle of doing our taxes and we don't do them "trying to see what we can get."

I am surprised as the writer that this was reported in such an unglowing way. Am I repeating myself when I say this disgusts me?!!!!

Is there a place to find out the cost savings of her stopping for fuel somewhere? And also, this is strictly for safety purposes, so her sitting atop enough fuel to go coast to coast makes her safer? Again, am I repeating myself when I say this disgusts me?!!!!

It was all about protecting your library card. Proves what lies can do to the gullible.

We need something smaller; more agile and responsive. I reccomend a C23 Sherpa with a bucket she squat over when she needs to take a pee.

Harry Reid is to ethics reform what HIV was to free love!

Her first choice was Air Force One. She downsized to the C32 (aka B757) as her contribution to the fight against emissions and Global Warming.

Okay... I confess.
I am enjoying this

Princess Pelosi promised the American people the most “honest, ethical, and open Congress in history“.... then threw her full support behind the ethically challenged Rep. John Murtha for House Majority Leader and wanted impeached former federal judge-turned-House Rep. Alcee Hastings to chair the House Intelligence Committee.
She promised to "drain the swamp"... Ethics reform was going to be a "top priority" and the biggest change she proposed was the ban on gifts and travel, which would prohibit House members and their staff from using corporate jets for travel taken as part of their official duties.

And last month, Princess Pelosi sought to create a special committee to tackle the grave dangers posed to our precious earth by global warming. This committee would hold hearings and recommend legislation on how to reduce greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide generated by fossil fuels.

"I promise to do everything in my power to achieve energy independence ... and to stop global warming," Pelosi vowed.

"So... now I want a big-fat private jet that seats up to 111 people, spews about 10,000 pounds of carbon per hour into the air and has a private bedroom, conference room, entertainment center and oh... and a staff of 16 to wait on us to fly me and my friends back and forth to my house at a cost of... ohh... say $22,000 an hour."

Both Pelosi and her lap-dog, Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa), are a bit upset (embarrassed) that this information has gotten out and, while Pelosi insists the request for an oversized plane is for "security purposes", Murtha is convinced the Pentagon has been leaking this information "to make her look bad".

"They're making a mistake when they leak it because she decides on allocations for them," Murtha threatened... uhhh... "advised".

Of course, Mr. Ethics Murtha denied pressuring the Pentagon, saying "I don't need to pressure them. I just tell them what they need to do."

Yes... I am enjoying this very much.
Come 2008, casting votes to keep these dysfunctional morons out of the white house might simply be a technicality.

"Even when you fall on your face, you're still moving forward."

If speaker Pelosi is annoyed by the fact that she has to re-fuel on her way back to San Francisco, there are hundreds of other corporate jets that can make the trip for her (and room for 10-15 more 'staffers'). Examples:
Gulfstream G500, Bombardier Global Express (which, by the way, carries 14 passengers and can fly from New York to Tokyo without stopping), Boeing Business Jet, and the Airbus Corporate Jet just to mention a few. Not only can these aircraft fly from DC to San Francisco, but all of them can easily fly to Europe from the east coast well. Europe is the "outer range" of the 757 she's requesting, but the 757 can hold an additional 50-100 people.

You wrote, "I would note that I am shocked that the media actually covered the event".

Not quite, it was on the CBS Evening News with Couric. You know, the one that finished BEHIND the rerun of "King of Queens" in LA.

"Damnant quod non intellegunt."

Today's Drudge Report has links to both the "accepted" story about this issue, and the defense of Pelosi by Tony Snow. Here are the 4 links Drudge offered, and they all deserve reading:

Importantly, the defense by Snow is significant. It's the Breitbart link.

It's interesting to me that so many people here at Redstate do what they claim the kos people and liberals do, which is jump on a story they wish to be true and willingly run with the muddiness of it to all sorts of unfavorable conclusions about their target.

There's no substitute for good critical thinking, thorough research, and a willingness to consider all biases in news stories before making judgements.

No?

with Pelosi I don't care if a story is true or not....I dislike the old bat, and don't need a reason to be that way.

She disgusts me..period.

How is it significant? The WH has been sucking up to the Democratic Congress in a way which it never did the Republican Congress. This is just more of the same.

Are you operating under the delusion that every position the administration takes is wildly popular with Republicans or Conservatives?

I'm amazed the speaker has the use of a private plane at all. Do you know that Tony Blair actually flies on commercial flights, even internationally? But not only can Pelosi not bring herself to doing that, she can't be bothered with refueling, either.

They got non-stop commercial flights she can take if she doesn't want to have to refuel.

But I do find it interesting that they would choose to stick their necks out for Pelosi over this.
WHY is the WH supporting her?

Jesus Christ and the American G. I.
One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.

The Republicans in Congress jumped to the defense of Mr. Cold Cash when the FBI conducted a search of his congressional office, and the WH quickly caved on the issue to bury it. I'm not sure what the reason for this kind of stupidity is, but I certainly don't care for it. Maybe it has something to do with being a "uniter, not a divider" or establishing a "new tone." Maybe he's trying to get Pelosi to help him write NCLB II.

Perhaps its a version of reverse psychology.

The more they say they support Pelosi, the more people will do a double take and say "What?" and then notice the corruption free smoke spewing from the 'drained swamp'.

Brilliant - it worked on me.

But I would encourage everyone to care more about the facts than just buttressing their own opinion, on every story.

Not doing so allows people to drive you with their biased opinions and information

And I would hope that personal attacks are above us, such as "old bat". It is, after all, good character to refrain from cheap personal shots, no matter what other people may do.

But do you think that America's Mother-In-Law told Bush at the recent Demo confab to call off the dogs on the whole Pelosi One thing if he ever wants his precious amnestycomprehensive immigration reform bill to see the light of day?

Or could that just be the razor sharp political instincts of George W Bush coming to the rescue, as if on cue?

Just asking.

worthless sack-o-dung, and her pals refain from personal attacks on my president, leaders in my party, and fighters for our freedom, then, and only then will they get respect from me....sorry

That make this a perfectly reasonable (and essential) expense? Lay them out for us... because I'm not seeing it from a bunch of linked news reports. And I'll give you a hint: the administration not having an issue with it isn't one of them.

...as an Army medic and nurse, I can't tell you how many personal attacks I hear about Democrats and liberals on a daily basis. If I'm going to base my words character on what others do and say, rather than things like, say, the Golden Rule or what I learned as a Christian or Buddhist or ethical athiest or whatever, then I truly have lost my moral and ethical compass.

docj, the speculation can run far and wide. Who really knows? My point is that this page consists mostly of folks acting as if they know something, when the facts at hand are quite possibly contrary to such convictions.

Jon Sandor, you're also entitled to speculate, sure. I can't say you're incorrect, but I can say your insinuation has no investigative component to it and yet you're seemingly content to consider yourself to have your answer.

Little thought here has been put into the possibility that the Speaker may actually have done nothing ethically wrong. And to me, it looks quite possible that that's the case, if I look at both sides of the story.

Nobody has suggested that Pelosi is doing anthing ethically wrong. You are going beyond speculation and crossing over into flat out fabrication.

I can't say you're incorrect

I can say that you are incorrect. The WH has spent the last few months groveling to the Democrats in an effort to win brownie points. I'm getting sick of it.

You're saying I'm fabricating that this whole thread is about her doing something less-than-ethical?

In all honesty, it seems to me that this thread is here because there's a consideration she's doing something unethical? There may be a semantical issue here with the word "unethical"...at least, people here on this thread are thinking that this is less-than-upstanding on her part.

But most certainly wasteful. And even worse, she's digging her elbow into the side of the US Armed Forces by showing off her power over these people whom she sees as beneath her contempt...

what is this crap?

as an Army medic and nurse, I can't tell you how many personal attacks I hear about Democrats and liberals on a daily basis.

don't talk to me or anyone here about the Golden Rule. That unhinged whackjob Pelosi and her ilk have taken a Golden Shower on every move this preisdent and admin have tried to accomplish. On top of that, they have attacked him personally, and many others working to make things better.

Give it a rest.

You can see the cliff edge from here, so everybody cut back on their language a tad. Whaddya think this is, the Edwards campaign? :)

I don't see anyone hiring private investigators to go dig up all the skeletons the folk on the opposing side have in their closets (a la Clinton)...

Besides, Edwards's campaign is proving to be a good show (for a sitcom).

zuiko, for starters you take a great leap with the question that I equate the Administration's positions with conservative ones.

Secondly, my comment about facts was clearly a general one, no?

This is from Breitbart:

"After the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Pentagon agreed to provide the House speaker, who is second in the line of presidential succession, with a military plane for added security during trips back home. Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, an Illinois Republican, flew in a small commuter-sized Air Force jet.

Pelosi said she would be happy to fly on commercial airliners but said the House sergeant-at-arms office urged her to continue Hastert's practice of using Air Force transport. She said she was informed on her first trip home that her plane would not make it across the country.

"I said well, that's fine, I'm going commercial," she told Fox News. "I'm not asking to go on that plane. If you need to take me there for security purposes, you're going to have to get a plane that goes across the country, because I'm going home to my family." "

There certainly is room for debate whether this is an essential expense. However, it's a strange thing to be up-in-arms about, unless, as jdub19 said, you just hate her no matter the truth.

Thanks! I got it.

Yes by zuiko

Security does make a great cover for perks, doesn't it? If you believe that "I'm happy to fly commercial" line I have some ocean front property in Utah to sell you.

We should certainly take her up on the offer, but we won't because of the ever present CYA factor and the fact that taxpayer money is viewed as worthless trash that exists to be shoveled out the door.

I'd have to say, I'd much rather fly private and have to stop for refueling than fly commercial and have to deal with a set schedule and the security and baggage hassles and get crammed into coach, but maybe that's just me.

In regard to your "What's this crap" comment...

jdub19 wrote this earlier to me:

"worthless sack-o-dung, and her pals refain from personal attacks on my president, leaders in my party, and fighters for our freedom, then, and only then will they get respect from me....sorry"

I'm content with the relevance of my response. As a "fighter for our freedom", I'm saying that I've heard an awful lot of nasty stuff about Pelosi and liberals. I've also felt like lots of the GOP haven't acted in my best interest, or my fellow soldiers' interest. Still, I hold that it's important for civility to raise oneself above it.

Is the fact that the very few of them who have spoken ill of the American soldier have been roundly criticized by all their fellows. The Dems who have done the same have been supported and even celebrated.
Other than that, I see very little difference between them.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

I don't recall seeing you around. Do you shoot them first, then fix em up? If that's the case, might I suggest some additional time on the practice range? I'm joshing you... and welcome.

Please be advised that this particular discussion concerns Nancy Pelosi, hater of all things non-liberal. Nothing we can say could ever match her own hate speach, except that ours is mostly in fun. Not that any of us would cry if she were found guilty and convicted of treason or any crime that would have her put away for life.

If you browse arpound what you will find is that much of the commentart is of high quality as is the following discussion, which can often be heated and lengthy.

Having gotten that out of the way...

As far as the white house groveling, well I don't see it. Please link where Bush has done an about face on any matter.

White house defense of Pelosi? I must have missed that as well, seemed more like Snow was asked a question and he responded in a civil manner, perhaps I'm missing the subtle context, please enlighten me.

Hey, strange_guy,

Yeah, today's my first day posting, though I've read redstate for a little while. Thanks for the welcome! I'm looking forward to kicking around.

As for the shooting comment, well, I'll admit I am not a great shot...but I'll just leave it at that. I'm better on the fix 'em side. :D

Yeah, believe it or not, Tony Snow did come out and say that this "story" was "silly", and that the Speaker was being treated unfairly...

Snow that is, IMO that's not defending her since everything he says is a lie anyway to the media, it made for a headline but the reality of it read different to me.

The actual quotes from pelosi's people are enough to keep this going and now that murtha has stepped in it, woohoo, we get to have a few more days of watching them shrivel up in front of the camera with soundbites for the next election cycle.

It's perfect.
