Reported much more fairly here, here and here than they have been in other fora. I certainly believe that Thompson has an obligation to his supporters to show that he wants to be President of the United States and that he will fight for the job. But it is even more important that Thompson show that his ambition is for his ideas and for his country, rather than being for himself. We have seen enough grasping politicians these days. "Fire in the belly" is a laudable trait but when the fire is reserved solely for one's own personal ambition, voters ought to look twice.

Fred Thompson's life won't come to an end if he is not President of the United States and it does not appear to have been a lifelong ambition for him to be President. We cannot, of course, say that about a number of other politicians and that may indeed be to the detriment of the Republic.

This is why I support Fred Thompson. I only wish that his campaign had the resources to put this on the air. It would be a shame to put the wrong person in office because of a lack of money...

FredHeads should flood Fred's campaign with lots of money to give the the campaign the resources to put the video on the air.

I believe this is exactly what Fred is showing & has articulated rather well. From a policy & issue standpoint, Fred is on top - IMHO. Thompson is being real, something that so many say they want - in face of those who are trying to be everything to everyone. Fred is fighting for the job based on ideas & issues, & is campaigning very hard for it.

The Nietzsche reference solidifies my support for Fred as a close 2nd (behind McCain).

There is no President but Lincoln, and Reagan is his prophet

America needs a man like Fred.

He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.
-Psalm 55:18

I can't really find anything I don't like about Fred!

I listen and I listen and I just am not hearing any downside...oh by the way I love the way he talks to Democrats...we need this guy.

Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion

I wish a DVD of that speech could make its way into every Iowan household!

I respectfully disagree. The Presidency is a matter of attending to a series of catastrophes while directing the course of a nation. It takes a tremendous toll on those who undertake its duties without fail, and through it all, one must remain relentless in meeting the duties of the office. A man who does not deeply desire this position simply lacks the drive necessary to perform its duties. I'd think that would be obvious. If a man cannot relentlessly pursue the very steps necessary to place him in the office, he deserves to languish where Fred Thompson languishes in the polls.

I like Thompson from a distance. He's intelligent, to the point, a straight-shooter, and has a good record. He's my second favorite candidate in all of this compared to Romney. But when you look at how he's carried himself and run his campaign, I'm not impressed.

Running the White House and directing the course of the nation are a big part of a President's duties. When I compare how much more organized, driven, and thorough other campaigns are than Thompson's, it's pretty evident he's not cut out for the job.

"Don't ever be afraid to see what you see." ~Ronald Reagan

If we had judged George Washington the same way Fred is being judged how would one explain his success as the leader of this nation?

Now I know NR is for Mitt and first hand observations can be colored by preconceived notions, but still this isn't going to help...

"Yesterday, I was at a Thompson event at a restaurant in Ames where he gave the impression—at least to me—of wanting to be somewhere, anywhere else. After he had made remarks and taken a few questions, he slipped out the back of the restaurant without shaking hardly any hands. Fine, maybe he was in a rush to get somewhere else. But then a little while later when most people had left he came back for a press availability with reporters. It seemed as if he had snuck out explicitly to avoid interacting with people. He answered—with an air of barely tolerating the indignity of it—a few horserace questions from reporters, then shot out the back of the room again."

If he can't be bothered with shaking the hands of the 50-75 people there to support him he's got a lot to learn about campaigning. If I was one of those people and he blew me off just to return to talk to reporters later on that would annoy me. This would be a different situation if he had a thousand people there and shaking everyone's hand would be much harder. But 50-75 in a restaurant? How hard can that be to say a polite word to like 15 tables?

But I suggest visiting the blog page itself: The Corner at NR and scrolling down to find the entry.

Interestingly enough, it appears Rich added a post immediately after suggesting Fred might just be an introvert who doesn't like to deal with strangers. Possible, but also pretty toxic for campaigning I would think.

From CNSnews.com story regarding a standard day on the campaign trail in Iowa: "After dinner and brief look at the next day's schedule, we are all done for the day at just after 9:00 pm. A standard 13 hour campaign day in Iowa."

So I guess what I have been hearing about Fred being lazy is right ... he should be working 24 hours every day instead of the little 13 hour days he has been working.

hey where does Fred stand on the war? I havent heard anything either way but im sure i missed it

"One last note--the most impressive candidate on the Sunday talk shows yesterday was Fred Thompson on Fox News Sunday. For the FredHeads, his performance had to be a dispiriting reminder of what could have been if he and they hadn't together drunk the Kool-Aid about the magic of the internet. Hopefully the political consultants and their future clients were making a mental note of that."

LMAO, is that what this is all about, the blogging community is in bed with Thompson to prove their merit over MSM? Lol, it is almost so good that I kinda hope it happens! Not really.
