Jimmy Carter: Israel attack 'unjustified'

Jimmy Carter, king of the mouth-breathers on the left, is at it again. This time it's in an interview with Der Spiegel.  I apologize for quoting so much of the article, but when you have someone with the proclivity for stupidity that Carter has, it's hard to keep it short.

SPIEGEL: Mr. Carter, in your new book you write that only the American people can ensure that the US government returns to the country's old moral principles. Are you suggesting that the current US administration of George W. Bush of acting immorally?

Carter: There's no doubt that this administration has made a radical and unpressured departure from the basic policies of all previous administrations including those of both Republican and Democratic presidents.

SPIEGEL: For example?

Carter: Under all of its predecessors there was a commitment to peace instead of preemptive war. Our country always had a policy of not going to war unless our own security was directly threatened and now we have a new policy of going to war on a preemptive basis. Another very serious departure from past policies is the separation of church and state, which I describe in the book. This has been a policy since the time of Thomas Jefferson and my own religious beliefs are compatible with this. The other principle that I described in the book is basic justice. We've never had an administration before that so overtly and clearly and consistently passed tax reform bills that were uniquely targeted to benefit the richest people in our country at the expense or the detriment of the working families of America.

Read on...

Carter claims that the policy of the U.S. was to only go to war when our when "our own security was directly threatened."  Carter must have forgotten the first Iraq war, Rwanda, Vietnam, etc, etc, etc.  He also begins criticizing Bush for departing from policies of the mythical seperation of church and state.  I have no idea to what he is refering directly, but his inclination to throw red meat to the rabid left that thinks that the United States is heading toward a theocracy should not be lost on anyone.  Additionally, for a former President of the United States to be travelling abroad criticizing the sitting President seems, in my mind, to be just a tad inappropriate.

SPIEGEL: You also mentioned the hatred for the United States throughout the Arab world which has ensued as a result of the invasion of Iraq. Given this circumstance, does it come as any surprise that Washington's call for democracy in the Middle East has been discredited?

Carter: No, as a matter of fact, the concerns I exposed have gotten even worse now with the United States supporting and encouraging Israel in its unjustified attack on Lebanon.

SPIEGEL: But wasn't Israel the first to get attacked?

Carter: I don't think that Israel has any legal or moral justification for their massive bombing of the entire nation of Lebanon. What happened is that Israel is holding almost 10,000 prisoners, so when the militants in Lebanon or in Gaza take one or two soldiers, Israel looks upon this as a justification for an attack on the civilian population of Lebanon and Gaza. I do not think that's justified, no.

These are the least defensible comments of all.  Israel was directly attacked, and Carter picks up on the "disproportionate response" meme being regurgitated by any liberal talking head that can make his way to a microphone.  This shows such a fundamental bias toward the terrorists that want to kill us that it's simply unconscionable.  Once again, Jimmy Carter has shown that he is a) not very intelligent and b) more inclined to defend those elements in this world that one to kill us than he is to defend this nation or it's allies.

Also posted at my blog.

The notion has been with us since the 40's and 50's since we developed nuclear ( not "nook-you-lur" ) weapons.

All administrations since Truman have had to contend with the dilemna od using the first strike capability to prevent what might be a protracted battle.

The first Iraq war, has to remove an invading and pillaging army from Kuwait; unfortunately the opportunity to remove Saddam was lost at that time. Recall that the "coalition forces" included most civilized nations... It was far from unilateral action.

Israel, like it or not *is* a large part of the problem in the middle-east. They're a thorn in side ov every other "nation" there. But, they are committed to toughing it out, I respect that. They have shown great restraint... The withdrew from Lebanon... So it's hard to condemn them for attacking a failed state.

To quote a popular British Prime Minister:

"The hostilities [in the middle east] will continue for as long as the Arabs hate the Isralies more than they love their own children."

I'd have written a shorter post, but I can't.

if you would have just expressed a cohesive thought.

Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.

Israel is a problem for the crime families that rule fascist Arab states but if they made peace, they might actually have to account for their other failures. Not my problem.

The quote is "Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us. by Golda Meir Prime Minister of Israel!

"The Road To Freedom Is Seldom Traveled By The Multitude"

this man teaches Sunday school.

That Jimmy Carter is sincere about his Christian beliefs and takes "turn the other cheek" and "love thy neighbor" and the teachings of Jesus Christ literally.

The problem with Jimmy is that he puts that stuff ahead of the interests of the United States. We live in a dangerous world and there are people who will cut off our heads when we "turn the other cheek".

doesn't have a clue about human nature, and he seems to be under the delusion that all people are good, and if you are just nice enough to them, they will be good.

Sorry, but human nature in general doesn't work that way, and when you put power in the hands of despotes and thugs, they aren't going to give up their despotic and thuggish ways just because you were nice to them.

They are going to lie to your face, take your money and whatever else you offer, and then do whatever they darn well please.

Jimmy needs to stick to building houses, and stay out of the foreign affairs of the United States, because he causes more harm than good.

to either Iran or to Hezbollah and Hamas. Let the deal with the head choppers.

And the fact that Carter may be "sincere" doesn't mitigate the fact that he is an idiot and a doddering old fool. His Presidency was a testament to the fact that you don't have to be competent, have a vision for the future, or understand the US place in history to be POTUS. His tenure as a former President proves that you don't have to be gracious. He is a model of backbiting, viciousness, envy and incompetence.

Jimmy Carter is a stain on this country.

If "pro" is the opposite of "con", what is the opposite of "progress"?

never would have been elected, I don't even know that he would have gotten out of the DNC primary. Carter's honesty and naivety I think was a boon in the right after Watergate climate.

The sad thing is that Carter does a pretty good job of building houses, but his incompetence couldn't have been left to his presidency, no, he has to stick his nose into US business and screw things up even more.

And does Carter really think he helped things, when he went to play negotiator with N Korea? Is he under some delusion with regard to that? His negotiations with Israel and the PLO pretty much went to pot too.

Honestly other than building houses, is there anything you can point to Carter doing in a position of leadership and say "that was a great job?"

It appears their position is that we should just abolish our military entirely.
1) Under no circumstances should we ever engage in a first strike, because that would be pre-emptive and cause them to hate us.
2) Even if we were struck first, rather than fighting back and risking an out of proportion response, we'd instead spend our time trying to understand why they hate us and adjusting our behavior to fix that.
3) Even if we're invaded rather than just attacked, the answer would be to just grant the people amnesty since they dying to get into America so badly.

The only time that they might even consider letting our military do things like use weapons might be if they were under UN control, but even then apparently it would only be if China and Russia approve it.

Seems like their slogan should be:
"Support Our Troops - Lay Them Off".
