The important point is here is not necessarily that Obama is a Manchurian Candidate. If anything he is a commie candidate. But that he has consistently lied about his family background for whatever reasons. On Israel Army Radio his half brother stated that Barack would be good to Israel even with his "muslim background from Kenya"..

Apparently the Obamas of Kenya have been reading those scurrilous emails to which Barack likes to refer, because they have no doubt -- contrary to the claims of the Obama campaign, that the presidential candidate was raised a Moslem. They take that as a given.
As the Jerusalem Post reports, "Barack Obama's half brother Malik said Thursday that if elected his brother will be a good president for the Jewish people, despite his Muslim background. In an interview with Army Radio he expressed a special salutation from the Obamas of Kenya."
The Obama brothers' father, a senior economist for the Kenyan government who studied at Harvard University, died in car crash in 1982. He left six sons and a daughter. All of his children - except Malik -- live in Britain or the United States. Malik and Barack met in 1985.
In a remarkable denial issued last November that still stands on the official campaign website, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs issued a statement explaining that "Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised as a Muslim, and is a committed Christian."
Apparently Malik Obama, himself a Muslim, had not read the press release.
Melanie Phillips is the most recent commentator to draw attention to the massive body of evidence that leaves no doubt that Barak Hussein Obama was born a Muslim (Islam is patrilineal) and raised a Muslim (so registered in school, acknowledging attending Islamic classes, reported accompanying his step-father to the mosque, and able to recite the Koran in the original Arabic).
Reuven Koret, Aaron Klein and Daniel Pipes have previously pointed to the attempts by Obama and his campaign to conceal the candidate's Muslim background. The well documented evidence draws upon the on-the-ground interviews by researchers in Indonesia and Kenya, published quotations of Obama's childhood friends and his school records, as well as the candidate's own autobiography.
It is not clear whether Barack Obama will now disown his half-brother Malik, or throw him under the campaign bus, for acknowledging that shared family background. In any case, some one should notify "Fight the Smear" tout de suite. Perhaps they can get him with the program.

Expect his website to revise due to a typing error where only two words were left out: "Senator Obama has never been a devout Muslim, and was not raised as a Muslim exclusively"
Then Chris Matthews will just clean it up, "Well, that proves that he wasn't lying, it was just a clerical error."
Wow, I finally understand what Obama's keywords mean to him: "I can CHANGE my remarks when I'm caught lying and HOPE that you BELIEVE me."

JERUSALEM – Sen. Barack Obama employed and continues to employ senior staffers who belong to the Nation of Islam, and the presidential candidate has some "worrying" ties to the controversial group headed by Louis Farrakhan, a former key Obama insider told WND.
The former insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed particular concern that Obama employed at least two Nation members in his early days as a state senator, when his office was staffed by only a handful of workers.
"When you're a state senator, you have little money given to you to hire staff. It is ironic that two of Obama's employees in those days were known Nation of Islam activists when Obama employed perhaps a total of maybe three or four staffers," said the former insider.
The former insider confirmed Obama is directly aware of the Nation of Islam members on his staff.
Obama was elected to the Illinois state Senate in 1996, serving the 13th district, which then spanned Chicago's South Side neighborhoods, including areas in which Farrakhan was considered to be highly influential.

From a family history perspective, from what I know, he is literally as much a Kenyan as he is an American.
I wish someone could correct me on that.
the point is not necessarily that he has a muslim background, but that he is deliberately lying about it to the public.
Maybe this will cause folks to look deeper into, "so, what else is he lying about?"
This takes it from questionable judgement to downright deceit. (I'd already been there, but this may push a few more leaners to the right side.)
People are so immured to politicians, I don't need to list them, who lie, that it takes a lot to reach critical mass. Barack will reach the critical mass of lies, I have little doubt.
The free exchange of ideas inevitably yields both heat and light.
I was saying, no, forget about the Muslim thing but do note that he has a crackpot minister (and I want to credit Christopher Hitchens for leading on this issue). Obama has plenty of real inconsistencies to answer for already.

and other fundamentalists, beyond potential usefulness as a dupe. Few non-Western Muslims would really approve of how they live as a family, Barry's votes on abortion issues and Michelle's outspokenness and (by conservative Muslim standards) immodest dress. I've never seen Michelle wear so much as a headscarf, which is not just Muslim but dates back to the Old Testament.

I've had a few liberal friends whose tragic flaw was an occasional sharp tongue that betrayed their otherwise good intentions.

(I know, I know ultra-left-wing source YMMV) What I got from reading what his half-sister Auma had to say is that that her half-brother has a very high opinion of himself and his father. Here is part of what she said in this article:

Auma is saying that her father did not practice and adhere to the tenets of Islam. She is saying he did not do the 5 prayers on the prayer rug and other practices of a devoted Muslim.
You are correct about somebody who is born into a Muslim family and given a Muslim name being a Muslim, but that does not make them faithful to Islam. Ayaan Hirsi Ali tries to explain to westerners that we need to differentiate between someone who is Muslim and someone who is an Islamic fundamentalist.

Malik Obama mentions Barack Obama's "muslim background" and this is implied to mean that Barack was "raised a Muslim"? This is hard to justify if one realizes that Malik Obama never met Barack until 1985, at which point Barack was already 24! Their common father, Barack Sr., had separated from Barack's mother by the time Barack was 2 and his upbringing occured under the watch of other people.
Not only does Malik Obama have no knowledge whatsoever about Barack's "raising" his comment reflects nothing more than that their common father was a Muslim, hence a "Muslim background".

articles like this are getting really boring. Who cares if he was raised around Islam until he converted, isn't the conversion what is important? There are plenty of former everythings that show up to church on Sunday so I don't get how this strategy is going to help the GOP moving forward.
This is just getting old but then again, maybe I'm just "naive". Some will call me a troll for saying so. I think its horribly naive to think that lobbing this sort of bridgeless theory is going to help McCain at all in November.

I'd like to think people will vote for McCain because they like his energy policy or his military experience or his long experience in politics. Not because his opponent is being slandered in email chain letters.

While that one is between BO & God, I question the sincerity of a so-called conversion in a church that preaches Black Liberation Theology. It's bad theology and not even closely related to Christian doctrine.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that the Muslim thing is the issue. I don't want to speak for others, but I personally don't care if a candidate is a Muslim, Jew, Christian, Buddhist, or Zoroastrian. I think that the issue is the fact that every time you turn around, Obama has told another exaggeration about his family background, or a story about it with an inconsistency in it--i.e., "My uncle liberated Auschwitz", "the Kennedy's brought my dad to the U.S.", and "my parents met at the march in Selma".
If Obama hadn't already told so many white lies about his family background, then I don't think that this would remotely be an issue.
I'm reminded of a Boston Herald article from 2000 that centered around Al Gore's seemingly emotional need to greatly embellish and exaggerate accomplishments that were perfectly honorable to begin with, except Barry's a little short on any noteworthy accomplishments to build on.
and his respect for Farrakhan, background in supporting radical Palestinians and Taliban like Muslims in Kenya, and his church's parallel views with Farrakhan's views does raise question about his RADICAL views that are in concert with radical Islam.

But there is a vast difference between someone having a background in something and that person being something.
Additionally, I think that BHO has spent very little time with his half brother. I do not see a Moslem half-brother from Kenya, who has spent very little time with his half brother as credible.
the half-brother might have been using the broad definition of "Muslim," which simply means one who submits to God. There's even a verse in the Qur'an that says something like, "O people of the Book (which is to say, Jews & Christians), you stand on nothing if you don't stand on Torah or the Gospels." It's the same meaning intended by the verses expressing that Abraham, Moses and Issa (Jesus) were Muslims, even though they predated the religion of Islam by centuries.
As I and others on here have stated NUMEROUS times, it is not that he was a Muslim that is the issue.
It is that he has consistently lied about it, and tried to shut down any investigation or discussion of the issue.
So those who believe it is beneath them to wonder about his background, how come it is okay for the liberals to claim McCain was not a natural born citizen since he was born in Panama,
but yet in a war against ISLAMIC fundamentalism the American public has no right to know if Obama is lying about his past and upbringing?!!
